Bangalore Development Authority promises to complete basic infrastructure in KG Layout
BENGALURU: Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) on Tuesday held a meeting with the allottees of new sites in Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout on providing basic infrastructure facilities.
The meeting was held after the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) prodded the BDA. In the meeting, it was informed that the authority has already provided basic infrastructure in the layout, such as roads, electricity, underground drainage, drinking water, Sewage Treatment Plant, electric substation, parks, and other essential amenities.
The allottees were told that about 90 per cent of the work in the layout has already been implemented and steps would be taken to complete the remaining 10 percent of the work. Regarding the acquisition of 550 acres of land scattered in various portions of the layout, landowners had filed petitions in the High Court.
The court had given the BDA a three-month period to settle the matter. Accordingly, representations were received from the landowners. After reviewing them, the authority rejected the requests to drop from the layout plan, stating that the land is essential for the continuity of basic infrastructure and the planned development of the layout.
The process of land acquisition in the layout is ongoing. Recognising the delays caused by the ongoing court case, the authority assured the site allottees that steps would be taken to expedite the completion of the work. 'In eight weeks, the land acquisition will be completed for the continuation of basic infrastructure services in those patch of lands,' said N Jayaram, BDA Commissioner.
The meeting witnessed commotion when one Suryakiran began raising irrelevant questions against the authority. On questioning an official authorisation letter to represent the allottees, he left the meeting along with all the allottees. Engineer Member, Deputy Commissioner (Land Acquisition), Engineering Officers, Executive Engineers, legal representatives, and senior officials of the Authority were also present in the meeting.

BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has decided to develop the 3 km stretch of storm water channel 10 including BDA City Centre (earlier Nicco Park) and Lake Zone near Janpath into an ultramodern public recreational space at a cost of Rs 200 crore. BDA V-C N Thirumala Naik said the proposal has already received nod from the state government after CM Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed it last month. 'We will soon prepare the detailed project report and submit the cost estimate to the government for grant of funds,' Naik said. The BDA V-C said the project includes development of the area along natural drain no 10 in the stretch from BDA City Centre to the proposed Lake Zone on Janpath road. As per the discussions in the meeting chaired by the CM, the BDA City Centre will undergo comprehensive makeover and be equipped with a wide range of modern amenities. These include improved lighting, beautification, herbal garden, Ayurvedic park, pathway, foot overbridges, fine-dining restaurants and hotels etc. The first phase of the project will focus on redevelopment of the city centre, a senior official said. The project will also include restoration of the storm water channel near the Lake Neutral project of BSCL on Janpath Road near Satya Nagar which has been moving at a snail's pace since 2017. The project will include a waste water treatment plant, public realm with recreational space, plantation area and roadside gardens, he said.

New ramp at Hebbal flyover junction in Bengaluru likely to open by August 2025
Bengaluru: The first phase of the much-delayed additional ramp at Hebbal flyover is likely to be opened to motorists by early Aug, offering partial relief to commuters grappling with congestion at one of the city's busiest junctions. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The new ramp, being constructed by BDA, starts near Baptist Hospital and is being integrated with the existing KR Pura loop to facilitate smoother movement toward Mehkri Circle. Once operational, the ramp is expected to ease traffic coming from Nagawara side. The structure spans approximately 700 metres, supported by 26 pillars and comprising 25 spans. A total of 99 girders have been installed, including those placed over the active railway line at the junction. To build a four-lane stretch above the operational track, BDA recently installed 33.5-metre-long girders, which required traffic diversions for vehicles coming from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) toward Mehkri Circle. A senior BDA official confirmed the first phase of construction is in its final stages. "All structural work has been completed. Deck casting and road laying from Baptist Hospital side up to the railway track is done. The remaining stretch up to KR Pura loop should be completed by the end of July or first week of Aug," the official said. Originally envisioned to extend from Baptist Hospital to Esteem Mall, the ramp was meant to offer a dedicated corridor for airport-bound vehicles. However, the plan was scaled back due to multiple delays and traffic disruption concerns during construction. In the second phase, the ramp will be integrated with Tumakuru Road loop, currently used by traffic from the service road near Esteem Mall and Tumakuru Road (ORR side) heading toward Mehkri Circle. Initial construction began in 2018-19, but was stalled after BMRCL objected to the road's alignment, citing conflicts with future Metro expansions. By then, BDA had already spent Rs 25 crore. Work resumed two years later with a redesigned plan that introduced significant changes, including integration of KR Pura loop — an element not part of the original blueprint. To accommodate the new design, BDA partially demolished KR Pura loop last year. Earlier, plans to demolish Tumakuru Road loop and build a new road through the adjacent tree park were also abandoned in favour of retaining both loops and integrating them with the new ramp. While the initial objective was to streamline traffic from KIA side, changes in the plan mean that vehicles on national highway's mainline will not benefit directly from the new infrastructure. Separately, BDA had also proposed a comprehensive revamp of Hebbal flyover junction, including a new flyover from KR Pura, connecting to the KIA-bound national highway, and new loops to manage traffic toward Tumakuru Road and other directions. However, financial constraints forced BDA to shelve these plans for now. BDA chairman NA Haris was not available for comments.

All buildings to have stilt floor parking
BENGALURU: After Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's recent statement that the state government is coming up with a new law to ban basement parking in buildings/apartments located in low-lying and flood-prone areas, the Urban Development Department issued a draft notification on June 12 to consider the ground floor as 'stilt floor' and reserve that space completely for vehicle parking, in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) limits. It is said the idea is to address traffic congestion due to street-side parking, especially in residential areas, and also to avoid damage to vehicles in flooding during heavy rain. The new rule is part of zoning rules of the Revised Master Plan of the Bangalore Local Planning Area, 2015. The ground floor of buildings already constructed, which have proposal for modification, buildings under construction and to be constructed in BBMP and BDA limits will have to include stilt parking floor, and its height shall not exceed 4.50metres, the notification stated. As per the notification, the stilt floor shall be used for vehicle parking only, and its misuse shall not be permitted under any circumstances. 'In case of misuse of the stilt floor, action shall be initiated as per law against such violations, including closure of the stilt floor, and Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) and Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) shall not provide service connections for such buildings,' it said.
