2026 Toyota RAV4: What We Know So Far
Overview
Compact SUVs are the go-to vehicle for many American drivers, and the Toyota RAV4 is one of the most popular choices in this segment. Toyota's volume seller gets a tip-to-tail re-do for 2026 and jettisons last year's nonhybrid powertrains in favor of a hybrid-only lineup. The RAV4 Hybrid offers up to 236 horsepower, while the RAV4 PHEV has up to 320 ponies and boasts a claimed 50-mile electric driving range. The RAV4's practical interior features seating for five and plenty of cargo space. An adventure-ready Woodland trim offers more ground clearance and all-terrain tires, while a new GR Sport trim features a suspension tuned by Toyota Gazoo Racing. The 2026 RAV4 is expected to go on sale by the end of 2025, just in time to take on the latest hybrid versions of the Honda CR-V and the Kia Sportage.

What's New for 2026?
The RAV4 has been comprehensively redesigned for the 2026 model year and is now offered only with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Toyota hasn't released pricing for the 2026 RAV4 lineup yet, nor do we have comprehensive information on each trim's standard and available features. When we learn more, we'll update this story with those details and make a recommendation on which one is the best buy.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The RAV4 Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that combine for 226 horsepower; front-wheel drive is standard. If you opt for all-wheel drive, a third electric motor is added to drive the rear axle and horsepower climbs to 236 ponies. RAV4 PHEV models get a lot more power—320 horsepower combined—and feature all-wheel drive as standard. The GR Sport trim will be the sportiest, with a suspension tuned by Toyota Gazoo Racing, summer tires, and a reworked power steering system. When we get a chance to test drive the new RAV4 models, we'll update this story with driving impressions and test results.

Towing and Payload Capacity
While front-wheel drive RAV4s and the all-wheel-drive LE trim can tow only 1750 pounds, the other models all offer up to 3500 pounds of max towing capacity.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
Plug-in hybrid models boast a claimed 50-mile electric driving range per charge, and Toyota says the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in as little as 30 minutes on a DC fast charger. Only the XSE PHEV and Woodland PHEV trims offer DC fast-charging though, which means SE PHEV and GR Sport PHEV models will require more time to juice up.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
A blocky design theme inside the RAV4's cabin gives the dashboard a rugged look while also being straightforward for the driver. The center console provides several storage bins, and some models feature a low-profile toggle-type lever for the shifter, which saves space and makes it easier to access items stored in the bins or cupholders. Most models come with either cloth or faux-leather upholstery, but sporty-looking XSE and GR Sport models feature faux-suede seat coverings with red stitching. The RAV4's cabin appears to be spacious enough for adults to get comfortable in the front and the rear seat, and cargo space is appropriately sized.

Infotainment and Connectivity
A 10.5-inch infotainment display is standard, but a larger 12.9-inch unit is available as an option on some models. The system can support a Bluetooth connection with up to two smartphones at a time and offers wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is also standard, but if you want the available head-up display you will have to spring for the Limited or XSE trims. Base RAV4s come with a six-speaker stereo but a nine-speaker JBL setup is optional.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Toyota offers a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance features on every RAV4 model. Specifics haven't been released but we expect to see desirable features such as lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control included as standard. For more information about the RAV4 Hybrid's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:
Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
Standard adaptive cruise control
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
All RAV4s come with a comprehensive warranty that matches those provided by rivals Honda and Nissan. Far from the norm, Toyota's complimentary scheduled maintenance policy stretches for two years or 25,000 miles.
Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
Hybrid components are covered for ten years or 150,000 miles
Complimentary scheduled maintenance is covered for two years or 25,000 miles

Vance says Musk making a 'huge mistake' in going after Trump but also tries to downplay the attacks
BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (AP) — Vice President JD Vance said Elon Musk was making a 'huge mistake' going after President Donald Trump in a storm of bitter and inflammatory social media posts after a falling out between the two men. But the vice president, in an interview released Friday after the very public blow up between the world's richest man and arguably the world's most powerful, also tried to downplay Musk's blistering attacks as an 'emotional guy' who got frustrated. 'I hope that eventually Elon comes back into the fold. Maybe that's not possible now because he's gone so nuclear,' Vance said. Vance's comments come as other Republicans in recent days have urged the two men, who months ago were close allies spending significant time together, to mend fences. Musk's torrent of social media posts attacking Trump came as the president portrayed him as disgruntled and 'CRAZY' and threatened to cut the government contracts held by his businesses. Musk, who runs electric vehicle maker Tesla, internet company Starlink and rocket company SpaceX, lambasted Trump's centerpiece tax cuts and spending bill but also suggested Trump should be impeached and claimed without evidence that the government was concealing information about the president's association with infamous pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. 'Look, it happens to everybody,' Vance said in the interview. 'I've flown off the handle way worse than Elon Musk did in the last 24 hours.' Vance made the comments in an interview with ' manosphere' comedian Theo Von, who last month joked about snorting drugs off a mixed-race baby and the sexuality of men in the U.S. Navy when he opened for Trump at a military base in Qatar. The vice president told Von that as Musk for days was calling on social media for Congress to kill Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill,' the president was 'getting a little frustrated, feeling like some of the criticisms were unfair coming from Elon, but I think has been very restrained because the president doesn't think that he needs to be in a blood feud with Elon Musk.' 'I actually think if Elon chilled out a little bit, everything would be fine,' he added. Musk appeared by Saturday morning to have deleted his posts about Epstein. The interview was taped Thursday as Musk's posts were unfurling on X, the social media network the billionaire owns. During the interview, Von showed the vice president Musk's claim that Trump's administration hasn't released all the records related to sex abuser Jeffrey Epstein because Trump is mentioned in them. Vance responded to that, saying, 'Absolutely not. Donald Trump didn't do anything wrong with Jeffrey Epstein.' 'This stuff is just not helpful,' Vance said in response to another post shared by Musk calling for Trump to be impeached and replaced with Vance. 'It's totally insane. The president is doing a good job.' Vance called Musk an 'incredible entrepreneur,' and said that Musk's Department of Government Efficiency, which sought to cut government spending and laid off or pushed out thousands of workers, was 'really good.' The vice president also defended the bill that has drawn Musk's ire, and said its central goal was not to cut spending but to extend the 2017 tax cuts approved in Trump's first term. The bill would slash spending but also leave some 10.9 million more people without health insurance and spike deficits by $2.4 trillion over the decade, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. Musk has warned that the bill will increase the federal deficit and called it a 'disgusting abomination.' 'It's a good bill,' Vance said. 'It's not a perfect bill.' He also said it was ridiculous for some House Republicans who voted for the bill but later found parts objectional to claim they hadn't had time to read it. Vance said the text had been available for weeks and said, 'the idea that people haven't had an opportunity to actually read it is ridiculous.' Elsewhere in the interview, Vance laughed as Von cracked jokes about famed abolitionist Frederick Douglass' sexuality. 'We're gonna talk to the Smithsonian about putting up an exhibit on that,' Vance joked. 'And Theo Von, you can be the narrator for this new understanding of the history of Frederick Douglass.' The podcaster also asked the vice president if he 'got high' on election night to celebrate Trump's victory. Vance laughed and joked that he wouldn't admit it if he did. 'I did not get high,' he then said. 'I did have a fair amount to drink that night.' The interview was taped in Nashville at a restaurant owned by musician Kid Rock, a Trump ally.

Solo vehicle rollover crash injures five people, including three children, CHP says
Three children were seriously injured in a solo vehicle crash in Merced County. The California Highway Patrol said the overturned Toyota Corolla happened at 8:30 p.m. on eastbound Highway 152, near I-5. Officers determined the vehicle was traveling eastbound 152, attempting to take the northbound I-5 connector ramp, but for unknown reasons was unable to negotiate the curve in the ramp and overturned into a dirt embankment, Sgt. Adrian Lopez said. Passers-by tried to help before officers and EMS arrived. The three children — ages 5 to 10 — were not wearing a seat belt and two were possibly ejected, Lopez said. The driver had major injuries and the passenger had moderate injuries, Lopez said. The three children were airlifted to Valley Children's Hospital in Madera. Their conditions are unknown. Alcohol and drugs are not a factor, Lopez said.
