Saints call for sea of support at European final

Northampton Saints have called on their supporters to bring "a sea of black, gold and green" to their European Champions Cup final, after tickets went on general sale.
Saints stunned Irish side Leinster - who were heavy favourites to progress - to win a thrilling semi-final in Dublin on Saturday, and set-up a final against French club Bordeaux Begles in Cardiff later this month.
It will be only the third appearance for Saints in the showpiece fixture following matches in 2000, when Northampton won the competition, and 2011 when they were runners-up.
Saints fan Colin Wells, who attended the semi-final, said it was "right up there" as one of his favourite days supporting the club.
Mr Wells said: "Every one of those guys on that pitch... they gave their heart, they gave their bodies and they gave their souls.
"They brought their game and absolutely smashed it. It [the game] had everything."
Four-times Champions Cup winners Leinster, who boast a squad full of Irish internationals, had beaten Saints in last year's semi-final and had reached the final in each of the last three seasons before Saturday's upset.
"I knew we were capable of beating Leinster," said Mr Wells. "When we bring our A-game and give 100%, there's no stopping us."

Fellow fan Robert Brown, who also attended the match in Dublin, said: "Hand on heart, I didn't expect us to win on Saturday beforehand.
"But we started fast, which was what we needed. Freemo's [Tommy Freeman] try in the first minutes set the tone and we were on a par with them [Leinster] from that point forward.
"The last moments [of the match] were agonising... but we did it. Fantastic."
The final, which will be played at the 74,500-capacity Principality Stadium on 24 May (14:45 BST kick-off), will be broadcast live on BBC Radio Northampton and the BBC Sounds app.

If in Q1 you arrive and there's a guy in the middle of the road that completely blows your qualifying away and that means that your weekend is destroyed. "I'm in P17 when I should be fighting for Q3 and top eight today, so I'm extremely disappointed. I saw him already in turn three to four, I was surprised he didn't get out of the way in three to four. I already lost a tenth or two with a dirty air, but I was like, 'okay, he's just playing the game of giving me dirty air.' "That's not impeding, but he's giving me dirty air of a tenth just to try, maybe he was on the cut and trying to give me dirty air on purpose. And then I realised going into Turn 5, he's not getting out of the way, I have to lift and I have to overtake him in the inside of six. The FIA released the following statement to explain why Hadjar was handed the three-place grid penalty for the Canadian Grand Prix. "Impeding Car 55 in turn 6. (Breach of Article 37.5 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations. "Drop of 3 grid positions for the next Race in which the driver participates. "The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 6 (Isack Hadjar), the driver of Car 55 (Carlos Sainz), team representatives and reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video, timing, team radio and in-car video evidence. "Car 6 was on an in-lap and was caught by Car 55, on a push lap, at the entry to turn 6. Although Car 6 attempted to move off the racing line to leave space for Car 55, the move was too late. The driver of Car 6 agreed that Car 55 was impeded. He explained that he had earlier been told by his team that Car 55 was approaching on a push lap but the team then told him that Car 55 had abandoned the lap. He said that although he saw Car 55 in his mirrors, he relied upon what he had been told by his team and when he realised the information was wrong he did his best to move out of the way. "The standard penalty for this infringement during Qualifying in the Penalty Guidelines is a 3 grid position penalty regardless of whether the incident was the fault of the driver or the team."

Minnesota graduate transfer Drew Berkland has committed to Notre Dame. The 6-foot, 190-pounder played outfield and also caught during his three-year career with the Golden Gophers. This past season, Berkland batted .293 with 10 doubles, 14 home runs, a team-high 53 RBI and a slugging percentage of .546 in 52 games. Berkland was arguably the Gophers best hitter last season but now has a new home for his final season of college baseball. He should immediately slot into the Irish's starting lineup, as either of his two positions, but with the departure of star Carson Tinney, catcher might be the best path. Notre Dame beat out Duke, Indiana, Kansas State, North Carolina and USC for Berkland's commitment. Pro Football Focus ranked the Fighting Irish No. 3 behind Texas and Alabama in its top-10 secondaries, and Athlon Sports did the same. Even with All-American Xavier Watts and Benjamin Morrison now in the NFL, standouts such as cornerbacks Leonard Moore and Christian Gray should keep the Irish secondary among the nation's best. Gray was a little inconsistent after returning from an injury last fall, but the expectations are that Irish fans will see the pre-injury version of him in 2025. Safety Adon Shuler learned under Watts and could be poised for a standout season. He had 59 tackles, five pass breakups and three interceptions while playing alongside Watts last year. ND also landed Alabama transfer Devonta Smith in the portal. The big question is who will play safety opposite Shuler. Luke Talich, Brauntae Johnson, freshman JaDon Blair and Virginia Tech transfer Jalen Stroman are all in the mix. Notre Dame's secondary will be a key component of a team that has College Football Playoff aspirations once again.
