BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) – There's no doubt that getting a scholarship as a prize for good grades is exciting, but do you know what makes that even better? Getting a free car.High school juniors and seniors were all smiles as names were called out to win scholarships, chrome books, and even a Chevrolet Trailblazer.Throwing such a big celebration of these students' success is a tradition going strong for more than a decade at the Baton Rouge River Center. One of the men who got it all started is a judge here in town.Judge Wilson Fields with the First Circuit Court of Appeals says, 'We want to bring some excitement to those students who are achieving academically,' said First Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Wilson Fields. 'All of the students in here have a 3.0 or above cumulative G.P.A. We want to display our state colleges and universities to them, to keep the best and brightest in Louisiana.'Every state college participated, rewarding students with about $700,000 in scholarships in total. 'One student will win a car, thanks to our sponsor Gerry Lane, and some students are going to get Chromebooks from our sponsor Cox Communications,' Fields mentioned.
Fields believes these are all excellent extra motivators to get good grades.
The event is getting even more support nowadays and is sponsored by the Mayor-President's office and CareSouth Health Services.

Jets Urged To 'Tap Into' One Key Justin Fields Trait

Jets Urged To 'Tap Into' One Key Justin Fields Trait originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Jets' offense under new offensive coordinator Engstrand will look vastly altered from last season. Advertisement New voices, a new scheme, and most importantly, a new quarterback make for a different-looking unit. Justin Fields has been handed the starting role and comes to the Big Apple looking to ignite and save his NFL career after four seasons of so-so production. One weapon Fields possesses is his ability as a runner, with rushing totals of 1,143 yards in 2022 and 657 in 2023. Last season, before he was benched for Russell Wilson, he had five rushing touchdowns and 289 yards in his six starts. For Pro Football Focus, Engstrand utilizing Fields' running ability has to be done regularly. "New York finally moved on from the failed Aaron Rodgers experiment and replaced him with Justin Fields on a two-year, $40 million contract," Pro Football Focus writes. Advertisement "Fields has never been a top-20 quarterback in PFF overall grade in any of his four seasons, but he's still only 26 years old and will be reuniting with Garrett Wilson, whom he threw passes to at Ohio State. With an underwhelming receiving corps outside of Wilson, the Jets would be wise to tap into Fields' rushing ability as much as possible." Quarterback Justin Fields warms up© Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images With a solid group of backs behind him in Breece Hall and Braelon Allen, Fields won't have to shoulder all the rushing duties, and Garrett Wilson, Josh Reynolds, Allen Lazard, and rookie Mason Taylor are options in the passing game. But for most, the Jets' offense should be a run-first unit, and Fields will/should play a big role in that. Advertisement We know how devastating he can be as a runner, and even NFL Network's Brian Baldinger stated how dangerous Fields looked running the football at OTAs. There are a lot of ways for Engstrand to go with how he should run his offense, and Fields, as a genuine runner, has to be one of them. New York Jets' QB Destined For 'Break Out or Flop' 2025 Campaign

New York Jets' QB Destined For 'Break Out or Flop' 2025 Campaign originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Eras for NFL franchises are often defined by and associated with the quarterback. 2025 marks a new era of New York Jets football, as Justin Fields is the new man in town. Advertisement The Jets signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract. It's a low-risk, high-reward venture for the Jets. If Fields can live up to the potential that got him drafted with the No. 11 overall pick, it's a bargain for the Jets. If Fields continues to struggle, it's not a franchise-hampering deal. ESPN's Bill Barnwell pegged Fields as an offseason signing who "could break out - or flop." "This might not be Fields' last chance as a starter, but it's probably his last chance at entering an offseason with a meaningful guarantee to start somewhere." Barnwell wrote. Barnwell hopes the Jets utilize his strength as a runner and play-extender, which the Chicago Bears did not take advantage of. Advertisement "The hope for Fields is that the Jets lean into his strengths in the QB run game, which the Bears didn't really do." Barnwell noted. "The Steelers jumped a little further in, but after he averaged just over five designed runs (excluding scrambles and kneel-downs) across his six games as a starter, he was benched for Russell Wilson." Fields is coming off his lone season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. As a starter, Fields went 4-2, with his two losses coming from a combined margin of six points. Fields was two scores away from a perfect 6-0 record with the Steelers, compared to Wilson who went 6-5 as a starter. But Fields' track record as a full-time starter in Chicago wasn't pretty. "While the Steelers went 4-2 with Fields throwing just one interception on 161 pass attempts, the best version of a Fields-led offense has to commit to his ability to create explosive plays" Wrote Barnwell. "He has taken sacks on nearly 12% of his dropbacks as a pro, plays that usually kill drives. His 40.9% success rate as a passer ranks 24th out of 25 quarterbacks with at least 1,200 dropbacks over the past four seasons, per NFL Next Gen Stats. With all of those negative or neutral plays, he has to produce big plays to survive as an NFL passer." Related: Could Giants Land High-Profile Lineman?
