Masai Ujiri's Immediate Reaction Surfaces After NBA Draft Lottery
Heading into Monday's NBA Draft Lottery, the Toronto Raptors had the seventh-best odds (7.5%) to land the No. 1 overall pick. The Raptors have had the No. 1 overall pick once in franchise history--2006, when they drafted Andrea Bargnani. They have had high draft picks since, even drafting current star Scottie Barnes fourth overall in 2021, but they never got back to the top of the draft board.
Unfortunately for the Raptors, the trend has continued. Furthermore, not only did they not get the No. 1 overall pick (the Dallas Mavericks did), but the Raptors even fell down to the No. 9 spot. For a team like the Raptors, who have made the playoffs just twice after their NBA Championship victory in 2019, this is a bit of a disappointment.

Following the results of the NBA Draft Lottery, Raptors vice chairman and president Masai Ujiri's immediate reaction surfaced following the team's disappointing drop.
Immediately after seeing the Raptors would end up with the ninth pick instead of the seventh or better, Ujiri did not have much of a noticeable reaction.
The last time the Raptors had the ninth pick was in 2016 when they selected Jakob Poeltl. Not only was Poeltl used as an asset to acquire Kawhi Leonard from the San Antonio Spurs in 2018, but he has since returned to Toronto and was the team's starting center last year.
While it is not an ideal spot to be, having the ninth overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft should still be big for the Raptors. There is a plethora of talent in the draft, and there are many prospects who could provide value in Toronto. However, fans will have to wait a little over a month to find out who the newest Raptor will be as the draft is set to take place on June 25.

Pistons, Mavericks to play regular-season game in Mexico City on Nov. 1
MEXICO CITY (AP) — The NBA is going back to Mexico City next season, with the Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons set to play a regular-season game there on Nov. 1. The Mavericks currently have the No. 1 pick in this month's draft and are expected to select Duke's Cooper Flagg. The Pistons made a huge improvement this season and reached the Eastern Conference playoffs. It will be the NBA's 34th game in Mexico since 1992. 'We take significant pride in the fact that the Mavericks organization and our supporters reflect the increased globalization of basketball and the NBA,' Mavericks CEO Rick Welts said. 'The vibrancy of Mexico City and the passion of its fans make it the perfect place to host these Global Games.' The full NBA schedule for next season isn't likely to be released until late summer. The league typically announces some international games ahead of that. 'Playing a regular-season game in Mexico City will be a great experience for our players and coaches,' Pistons president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon said. 'And we look forward to showcasing Detroit basketball to an international audience and a passionate, growing NBA fanbase.' ___ AP NBA:

Mavericks reportedly expect coach Jason Kidd to remain in Dallas amid interest from Knicks
Amid speculation that he may become the new head coach of the New York Knicks, the Dallas Mavericks fully expect that Jason Kidd will remain with the organization for the foreseeable future. The Mavericks have been privately insisting to key stakeholders that Kidd will not be leaving the franchise this offseason, according to The Athletic's Christian Clark and Sam Amick. Instead, Kidd is reportedly hoping to parlay the Knicks' interest in him into a new contract extension with the Mavericks. Advertisement Specifics of that deal, including what it will look like or when it will be finalized, are not yet known. The report comes amid speculation that the Knicks — who fired coach Tom Thibodeau last week following their exit from the Eastern Conference finals — would try to make a play for Kidd. The organization has serious interest in hiring Kidd, per The Athletic, though they had yet to request permission to speak with him as of Tuesday afternoon. Kidd has spent the last four seasons with the Mavericks. He's compiled a 179-149 record and led them to their first NBA Finals appearance since 2011 last season, when the team still had star Luka Dončić on their roster. While he's since been traded away, the Mavericks won the NBA Draft lottery this spring and are now in position to select Duke star Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick later this month. Advertisement The Mavericks also struck a deal to hire longtime assistant Jay Traino on Tuesday. Traino, who was last on staff with Mike Brown in Sacramento, will join the team as a lead assistant. According to The Athletic, Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison made it clear to Traino that Kidd would be the team's head coach next season when hiring him. The Knicks surprised the NBA world last week when they parted ways with Thibodeau, who led the team to the conference finals for the first time since 2000. He brought the team back to relevance, too, and made four postseason appearance in five years after a seven-year drought from the playoffs. There are several notable names who could replace Thibodeau in New York, though that coaching search is just getting started. The team is the only one without a head coach in the league. While things could certainly change, especially if he doesn't land the extension he wants in Dallas, it doesn't sound like Kidd relocating to Manhattan is going to happen anytime soon. The Knicks will have to look elsewhere.
