Proposal at Mothman statue goes viral
POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. (WBOY) — Mothman was a witness for an engagement recently, and the internet is loving it.
Mothman is a cryptid that became legend in the 1960s. He was seen three times in and around Point Pleasant, West Virginia, the most famous being right before the collapse of the Silver Bridge which killed 46. Despite his connection to the tragedy, since the release of media like 'The Mothman Prophecies,' Mothman has become a mainstream and generally positive figure in the paranormal and cryptid world—enough so that Point Pleasant and the Mothman statue that was erected there in 2003, attracting thousands of visitors every year.
Among recent visitors was a couple that got engaged in front of the statue. The Mothman Museum shared a photo of the special moment online which has gone viral, with thousands giving their congratulations.

Many agreed that it was the perfect place to pop the question, with some saying they wish their partners had picked such a fun spot and others saying that they also got engaged in front of Mothman and wouldn't change a thing.
Others said that they hope Mothman makes an appearance at the wedding—hopefully as a happy guest rather than a warning sign for tragedy.

Lightning strike sets Clearwater home on fire
CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — A frightening thought as hurricane season begins, a Clearwater home was set on fire after being struck by lightning early Saturday morning. Residents were able to evacuate safely, and no injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. Clearwater Fire & Rescue spokesman Rob Shaw said an initial investigation showed lightning strikes to the back deck of the home were likely the cause of the fire. Around two dozen rescue units were on scene and were able to control the fire quickly, preventing it from spreading to other areas of the home. New Hampshire man sentenced in Washington Parish child sex abuse case
WASHINGTON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A New Hampshire man has been sentenced to 135 years in prison after he sexually abused a young boy from Washington Parish. According to the Office of District Attorney Collin Sims, 28-year-old Benjamin Hart began talking to a then-10-year-old boy over Xbox online back in 2020, with communication eventually being moved to Snapchat, where Hart sent the boy an explicit image of himself. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office warns of deadly 'pink cocaine' Officials say Hart eventually convinced the victim to meet in person, and then began making regular trips from New Hampshire to Washington Parish, where he repeatedly sexually abused to victim, mostly inside of Hart's 18-wheeler. Prosecutors say that from 2020 through 2022, Hart gave expensive gifts, such as a cell phone, a gaming system and money to the victim, using them to coerce further sexual acts from the child. Hart was ultimately found guilty of sexual battery of a juvenile under the age of 13, trafficking of children for sexual purposes and computer aided solicitation of a juvenile under the age of 13. Two arrested in Thibodaux drug bust
THIBODAUX, La. (WGNO) — Two people have been arrested following a drug bust that occurred in Thibodaux on Thursday, May 29. According to the Thibodaux Police Department, after months of investigation, a search was executed in the 1300 block of Louise Street. As a result, police say the following items were seized: 142 grams of marijuana, packaging materials, three digital scales, three handguns, of which one was made to be fully automatic, rifle upper, 57 bottles of CBD oil, 11 THC vapes, assortment of ammunition and magazines, $1,397, 149 grams of gabapentin, 9 doses of tramadol, 208 grams of liquid codeine and 70 grams of psilocybin-mushroom gummies.
