BN at 51: Ahmad Zahid hails spirit of democracy, unity across generations
KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) continues to uphold deep-rooted principles of democracy, champion inclusive development and nurture national unity that grows stronger across generations, its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.
He said for over half a century, BN has been a political platform that embraces diversity, bridges divides and unites Malaysians under a common vision of a peaceful, prosperous and resilient nation.
'Alhamdulillah, today marks the 51st anniversary of Barisan Nasional – a political institution that has weathered the tides of history and remains steadfast as a pillar in the nation-building journey of Malaysia.
'In the face of changing times, as global currents shift and political winds change direction, Barisan Nasional stands firm and unwavering,' Zahid said in a Facebook post today.
The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed appreciation to all BN members, party machinery, leaders at every level and loyal supporters who have stood by the coalition through both triumphs and trials.
'Your loyalty is our strength. Your spirit breathes life into this struggle.
'May this 51st anniversary serve as a moment of reflection, inspiration and renewed determination as we forge ahead to shape a more meaningful chapter in our shared history. May this struggle be blessed and guided by divine wisdom. Long live Barisan Nasional!' he said.

SUNGAI BULOH: Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has called on everyone to stop putting pressure on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over cabinet appointments. His remarks follow the resignations of Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli from the cabinet after their losses in the recent PKR party polls, leaving two ministerial posts vacant. "The appointment of ministers is the prerogative of the prime minister. "He will make the decision when the time is right and when he deems it appropriate, based on the circumstances at that time," he said after the laucnh of PENN 2.0 at Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia headquarters here. Ramanan, who recently won a vice-president seat in PKR, said it was important to give Anwar space to make the best decisions for the country without undue pressure. He has given his assurance that he would continue fighting for the community, regardless of his position. "Whether I'm a minister or deputy minister is not important. As long as I'm active in politics, I will fight for all Malaysians, especially the Indian community, which has often been left behind. "These programmes and initiatives (under the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry) have shown results, and I don't believe they will be discontinued. "If anyone tries to cancel them, they will likely face strong backlash from the community," he said. On new PKR membership applications, Ramanan said there should be no rush or premature assumptions. He said the application process must go through proper channels and vetting procedures as outlined by the party. "There is no pressure from Umno, and PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said no applications have been officially received. "So, let the process run its course. Every application, whether from an ordinary member or a prominent figure, goes through the same screening. "We don't need to force any decision. When the time comes, the leadership will decide accordingly," he said. Ramanan added that anyone joining the party must add value to its political capital, regardless of their background or position.

Nothing wrong with pushing for Cabinet appointments, says Umno man

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: An Umno leader says there is nothing wrong with political parties pushing for Cabinet appointments although Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has the final say on the matter. 'It's up to the prime minister as the Cabinet is his prerogative. 'But it is not wrong to ask for ministerial posts,' Ahmad Maslan, an Umno Supreme Council member, was quoted as saying by Berita Harian. The deputy works minister was referring to Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's call for the prime minister to ensure that his party is restored to its quota of seven ministers in the Cabinet following Tengku Zafrul Aziz's resignation from the party. Zahid said Umno had only six ministers now. 'With Tengku Zafrul no longer in Umno, the party has a right to request that a minister's portfolio be given to us,' Zahid, the deputy prime minister, was quoted as saying. Ahmad's comments were also in response to Anwar's statement that there was no pressing need for a Cabinet reshuffle despite the resignation of two ministers. Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad stepped down as economy minister and natural resources and environmental sustainability minister respectively, following their defeat at the PKR polls. Rafizi lost his PKR deputy presidency to Anwar's daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar, while Nik Nazmi failed to be re-elected as a party vice-president.
