Varanasi: A special campaign will be launched by health department in Varanasi on Friday to mark
National Dengue Day
, observed every year on May 16, to raise awareness about causes and prevention of the disease.
Chief medical officer Dr Sandeep Chaudhary said people will be educated about symptoms, prevention and treatment of dengue and encouraged to maintain cleanliness around their homes. This year's theme for National Dengue Day is 'Check, Clean, Cover: Steps to Defeat Dengue'.
The CMO said all superintendents and medical officers in charge should ensure rallies were conducted in schools to educate students and camps organised in sensitive areas to check fever patients.
He said no new dengue cases were reported this year so far. Dengue cases are usually found during rainy season. To prevent and control dengue, ASHA and ANM workers will go door-to-door every Sunday, spreading awareness with the slogan 'Attack Mosquitoes, Target Larvae'.
District malaria officer, Sharad Chand Pandey, said ASHA workers would not only raise awareness in their areas but also ensure stagnant water got drained. He said, "In case of fever, consult doctor before taking any medication for

. Dengue larvae breed in clean water, so ASHA workers will ensure source elimination. They will check coolers, pots, fridge trays and containers, ensuring proper disposal of sources. People should be made aware to clean such places weekly. People will be encouraged to keep their surroundings clean and use mosquito nets while sleeping. If

appear, they should contact nearest govt hospital immediately. He said symptoms of dengue might include high fever, severe headache, joint pain, nosebleeds, skin rashes, gum bleeding, eye pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and back pain.

Kurnool: On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), Dr Shanti Kala, led an awareness rally from the District Medical and Health Office to the Collectorate on Saturday. The rally included the participation of ASHA workers and office staff and aimed to spread awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption. The rally was flagged off by Dr Shanti Kala in the presence of program officers from the health department. Speaking on the occasion, she stated that World No Tobacco Day is observed every year on May 31 to highlight the health risks associated with tobacco use and to advocate for effective policies to reduce consumption. This year's theme, 'Protecting youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use', focuses on exposing the deceptive strategies used by the tobacco industry. Dr Shanti Kala emphasized that what begins as a casual habit often turns into a deadly addiction, leading to life-threatening diseases. BHUBANESWAR: With the onset of monsoon, the Health and Family Welfare department has geared up for containing vector and water borne diseases. After a review of the situation here on Thursday, Health secretary Aswathy S directed officials to intensify awareness activities at grassroots level and ensure sufficient stock of drugs at different levels ranging from ASHA worker to sub-centre, PHC, CHC and district headquarters hospitals. CDMOs have been asked to ensure the distribution of long lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) with the help of ASHA workers, MPHWs at village and ward level. 'Senior officers from the directorate of public health and National Health Mission (NHM) would go to grassroots level and ensure 100 per cent distribution and use of LLINs, availability of testing devices, sufficient stock of drugs, active surveillance, screening and testing,' said an official. Director of public health Dr Nilakantha Mishra has been advised to prepare a detailed schedule of the movement of officers to districts, particularly those where more number of malaria, dengue and diarrhoea cases have been detected in the past few years. More than 40.49 lakh LLINs have been allotted to seven districts which reported higher incidence of malaria last year. Aswathy directed officials to focus on these high-burden districts and intensify preventive and surveillance activities. The activities would be carried on targeted campaign mode under the supervision of NHM mission director Dr Brundha D.
