Mother Recordings celebrates a decade of electronic music authority… along with a perfect remix

The Irish Sun14-05-2025

BERLIN dance label, Mother Recordings celebrates a decade of electronic music authority with a remix that echoes through the ages.
When Leon and Shaf Huse dropped
Power
To The People on the imprint in 2018, it wasn't just a track, it was a global call to dance. The hypnotic beats and classic sample of Wildchild's cult hit Renegade Master from the 90s helped create a terrace anthem that roared out of DC10 Ibiza and into the sets of legends like Carl Cox, The Martinez Brothers and Seth Troxler.

Now, Tube & Berger, fellow Berlin groove architects Arndt Roerig and Marko Vidovic -heads of Kittball Records, have injected it with a fresh dose of cinematic tension.
Their remix doesn't walk onto the dancefloor, it haunts it.
With horror-funk synths towering like cathedral organs and voodoo-driven percussion, this is a tribute to the darker, more primal pulse of the underground.
We caught up with Tube & Berger this week and asked them to curate a playlist to mark the release of their remix.
Their selection includes the new remix and captures that same
energy
and is a celebration of the renegades, the ravers, and the revolutionary power of a perfectly placed drop.
Back once again, with the Renegade Master indeed!

Tony gave our classic a fresh punch – heavy, modern, and still slaps.

Caught our ear right away – great groove and full of tension. Since then, it's been in our set. Works every time.
DEFLEE – Yo!
We've been into DEFLEE for a while and this one's just another fire tune from him. Clean and heavy.
Doctors On Decks – The Fog (Chris Luno Extended Remix)
Our Austrian friends teamed up with Chris Luno, and he took it deep and dreamy. A proper late-night roller.

Noel Gallagher looks stony-faced as he makes lonely tube journey to Oasis rehearsals – but Liam's entrance is chaotic

OASIS's famously grouchy songwriter Noel Gallagher proved he's still a man of the people as he took the Tube to his band's rehearsals in London. However, the sight of a box load of throat medicine is likely to leave ticketholders, particularly those at dates later in the run, feeling a little nervous about Liam's stamina. Wedding of the Week: Ukrainian and Irish traditions blended in humanist ceremony

Love overcame language barriers as guests congratulated Maryna Pidhorna and David Connolly after a humanist ceremony that blended Ukrainian and Irish traditions. The traditional 'rushnyk' [ritual cloth] from the bride's homeland featured as the couple exchanged vows in the Greenhills Hotel in Limerick city. Maryna, from Kyiv, and David, from Limerick, were wed by celebrant Billy Mag Fhloinn and held their reception in the same venue. Maryna Pidhorna and David Connolly. Pictures: Joe Diggins Photography 'It was absolutely fabulous, the unity of our cultures integrated within the ceremony was very special,' says the bride, a childcare assistant. Maryna and David, a carer, professional football coach and intermediary, first met on a night out in Tipperary town in February 2023. Maryna Pidhorna and David Connolly. Pictures: Joe Diggins Photography 'Things progressed to our dating regularly from there — cinema, a Ukrainian performance of 'Swan Lake' at the University of Limerick, dinner and dancing, travelling to beaches, wine and falling in love,' she says. David popped the question before the year's end. 'We got engaged on December 5, 2023, in the very first restaurant we dined out together, La Candela, in Tipperary town,' he says. Fleeing war in Ukraine she returned to Blarney in 2022 with her sister and their young children, where she made many more friends, among them Kate Durrant and Val Kirby, before Maryna had to relocate to Limerick. Kate and Val were overjoyed when invitations to Maryna and David's wedding dropped through their letterboxes. Val Kirby and Kate Durrant with bride Maryna Pidhorna. 'As 'Chernobyl children', Maryna had been part of the Rest and Recuperation summer programme that brought Ukrainian children to Ireland to give them respite from the toxic fallout of the nuclear disaster,' says Kate. Three years ago, when Kate encountered Maryna, she saw a woman who swiftly 'put her own needs aside to offer her services in the local hospital as a translator, easing the burden on her fellow countrymen and women receiving treatment'. Pictures: Joe Diggins Photography Maryna and her sister, she adds, 'enrolled their children in our local schools and clubs, helping out in any way they could', before housing constraints forced another move. 'It was a tough transition, not that they complained, but relocating their families to yet another school, and a new soccer club for Maryna's talented, and football-mad, teenage son, was another bump on their already rocky road,' says Kate. The famous faces Rory McIlroy will call neighbours after his London move

Fresh off winning the Masters and completing the career grand slam, Rory McIlroy is set to move his family to London. The 36-year-old ended his long major drought last month by winning the only major championship missing from his impressive resume. In the process, the join an elite club of golfers to win the career grand slam. It was a monkey off his back for McIlroy, who celebrated the triumph by returning home to Holywood in Northern Ireland to see his parents. But before landing in Belfast, he and his wife Erica Stoll and their daughter Poppy made a pit-stop in their private jet in London to see the Surrey mansion the family plans to live in. McIlroy and his family have been living for several years in a palatial home in Jupiter, Florida, in a neighbourhood filled with mega-rich golfers, actors and business people. The sunny Florida weather undoubtedly suits McIlroy's golfing ambitions as its climate and resources allow him to practice all year round. But the five-time major champion has made no secret of his and his wife's desire to move to the UK, with the pair buying a property on the estate of Wentworth Golf Club a couple of years ago. And after reportedly spending over €10 million on renovations to the Surrey home, the McIlroys are now expected to move in next month. In doing so, they will join a rich history of famous names who have made their homes in an area known for its exclusivity. In the world of golf, McIlroy's neighbours are set to include the likes of South African legend Ernie Els and former Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn, while Irish compatriot Paul McGinley has a house in nearby Sunningdale, as does another former Ryder Cup captain in Sam Torrance. Justin Rose, who McIlroy beat in a playoff to win the Masters, also lives in the area. Former Chelsea captain John Terry is a keen golfer and lives close to Wentworth, as does former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen, another lover of the game. In times past, Formula One legend Eddie Jordan also owned a house in the area, as did Ukrainian footballer Andriy Shevchenko. McIlroy's other neighbours will include the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, who is a resident of Wentworth Estate, and Russian oligarch Petr Aven. Aidan Heavey, the founder of Tullow Oil, also owns a property on the estate. The plush surroundings of Wentworth and the easy access to the city of London and international airports have attracted people from all walks of life. Music stars Elton John and Cliff Richard and have both owned houses in the area down through the years. Wentworth Estate has also been home to the former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, and chat show king, Michael Parkinson. But living in the affluent area hasn't been for everyone. In a 2019 interview with Uncut music magazine, New Wave musician Gary Numan said: 'I had a big neo-Georgian house on Wentworth golf course, but I was convinced it was haunted. "Some weird s*** had been going on – I'd come home and the house was in darkness when I was convinced I'd left the lights on. "So one day, I made a point of turning on every single light in the house. I got back from the studio and – f*** me – the house was in total darkness.'
