Elle Fanning cast as Effie for 'Sunrise on the Reaping' film
May the odds be ever in your favor!
On Wednesday, "Hunger Games" social media accounts announced that American actress Elle Fanning was cast as Effie Trinket for the newest "Hunger Games" film installment, "Sunrise on the Reaping."
A fan favorite, Fanning has long been mentioned by fans as their pick to give life to the younger version of the role initially played by Elizabeth Banks.
In "Hunger Games," Effie served as the Capitol's escort for Hunger Games tributes from District 12 alongside Haymitch Abernathy, the only living victor and mentor of District 12.
Effie, along with Haymitch, escorted Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark starting from the 74th Hunger Games up to the district rebellions against the Capitol.
In the prequel 'Sunrise on the Reaping,' she will serve as the stylist and escort for Haymitch during his games.
Along with Fanning, other actors announced to join the cast are Iona Bell (Lou Lou), Molly McCann (Louella McCoy), Ralph Fiennes (President Corionalus Snow), Ben Wang (Wyatt Callow), Lili Taylor (Mags Flanagan), Maya Hawke (Wiress), Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Beetee Latier), Jesse Plemons (Plutarch Heavensbee), McKenna Grace (Maysilee Donner), and Joseph Zada (Haymitch Abernathy).
Released as a book last March, 'Sunrise on the Reaping' is a prequel set 24 years before Katniss' first Hunger Games and is set 40 years after the first Hunger Games prequel 'Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.'
Set for film release on November 20, 2026, the story will follow the story of Haymitch Abernathy and his experience as one of the four District 12 tributes for the 50th Hunger Games or the 2nd Quarter Quell.

Kelsey Merritt embraces natural tan: 'I will never promote whitening products'
Kelsey Merritt is not one to be ashamed of her tan skin. On the contrary, she's proud of it. In Valeria Lipovetsky's latest vlog interview, the Filipino-American model talked about the beauty standards in the Philippines. Kelsey shared that she grew up in the Philippines, where people with lighter or fairer skin were considered beautiful. "The whole country is obsessed with getting lighter and hiding from the sun because it's also associated with class, like the [fairer] you are, the richer you are," she said. "Growing up, I was [fairer], but I think I'm most beautiful when I'm tan, and that's very different from how people think back home," she added. Kelsey also said she had a clear stand on embracing her tan skin when modeling, saying, "I will never promote whitening products." "I think Filipinos are so beautiful in their own natural skin color, and it's always been my thing." In April, Kelsey and her rumored boyfriend, Chace Crawford, attended Tiffany & Co.'s Blue Book Gala together at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Earlier, the two were spotted kissing in New York City. However, the two haven't publicly confirmed the status of their relationship. Kelsey and Chace first sparked dating rumors in January when they were spotted together having coffee in Los Angeles, California. Kelsey quickly rose to fame internationally after she became a Victoria's Secret angel and modeled for the brand in 2018. A year later, she posed for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition. —Hermes Joy Tunac/JCB, GMA Integrated News
