Trial of man accused of killing baby girl in car park crash delayed
The trial of a man accused of killing a baby girl who died after being hit by a car in a multi-storey car park has been postponed until next year.
Flaviu Naghi, 34, faces two charges of causing the death of six-month-old Sophia Kelemen by dangerous driving and causing death by careless driving while unfit through drugs.
Naghi, of Rondini Avenue, Luton, Bedfordshire, spoke through an interpreter to confirm his name and enter a not guilty plea to the careless driving through drugs charge during a brief hearing at Swansea Crown Court on Monday.
Judge Catherine Richards agreed an application to adjourn the trial until January 5 2026, three days after the anniversary of Sophia's death.
The judge said it was 'regretful' that the trial needed to be delayed, but said it was necessary to allow for more expert evidence to be gathered.
Naghi was released on bail.
Tom Crowther KC appeared for the prosecution while John Hipkin KC represented the defendant.
Sophia, from the Leigh area of Manchester, was hit by a car on the ground floor of a multi-storey car park in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, on January 2, and died a day later in hospital.
She had been airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales and undergone emergency treatment.
An inquest opening at Pembrokeshire Coroner's Court in January heard Sophia died of an 'intracranial haemorrhage' caused by a road traffic collision.

"I suggest that you were weighing these death cap mushrooms so that you could calculate the weight required for the administration of a fatal dose for one person. Agree or disagree?" barrister Nanette Rogers said. "Disagree," Patterson replied. Patterson accepted she had lied to police and medical professionals after the lunch when she was asked whether she had ever foraged for mushrooms or owned a food dehydrator - which was later found in a waste disposal plant containing traces of death caps. Giving evidence earlier in the day while being questioned by her own barrister, Colin Mandy, Patterson told the trial in Morwell, Victoria, she did not intentionally pick death cap mushrooms, or knowingly serve them to her lunch guests. She also denied that she pretended to be sick after the lunch to avoid becoming a suspect in the case.

Tommy Robinson denies harassing two Daily Mail journalists
Right-wing political activist Tommy Robinson has denied harassing two Daily Mail journalists. The 42-year-old, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday to face charges over his alleged conduct towards the two reporters. He is accused of two counts of harassment causing fear of violence between 5 and 7 of August 2024. Robinson, from Luton, Bedfordshire, was released from prison on 27 May after he was jailed last October after admitting multiple breaches of an injuction made in 2021. The injuction had barred him from repeating false allegations against a Syrian refugee, who had successfully sued him for libel. The former leader of the now-defunct English Defence League had wrongly claimed in an online video that the Syrian teenager was a violent thug. He later repeated that false allegation 10 times, including during a rally at London's Trafalgar Square last year. The activist left HMP Woodhill after his 18-month sentence was reduced by four months at the High Court. He was filmed speaking on his X social media channel for around 20 minutes with longer hair and a bushy beard, and wearing a rosary around his neck, as he left the prison. Robinson is facing a separate trial in October next year over an accusation that he failed to provide the Pin for his mobile phone when stopped by Kent Police in Folkestone in July 2024.
