Jeff Bezos And Lauren Sanchez's Wedding Events Begin: What We Know About Venice Extravaganza

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and former journalist Lauren Sánchez are getting married this week in what is expected to be an opulent—though increasingly controversial—ceremony hosted in Venice, Italy, with protests by angered locals having already interfered with some of the billionaire's party plans.

The wedding began its 'multiday celebration' Thursday and is expected to last until Saturday, costing the billionaire tech mogul and his soon-to-be wife tens of millions of dollars, according to multiple outlets.
Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro, who has spoken out against protesters demonstrating against the wedding, told Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera the wedding 'will have economic repercussions worth millions of euros for our city.'
It is not clear when exactly Bezos and Sánchez will tie the knot or whether they have already done so, CNN reported, citing a spokesperson for Brugnaro who said an official marriage request has not been submitted to the city, indicating this week's festivities could just be ceremonial.
Protests by locals, who are upset with overtourism and Bezos' links to President Donald Trump, have threatened to disrupt the wedding, and sources told Reuters the threat of protests prompted Bezos to move a wedding party from a central nightlife area to the more secluded Arsenale, which is surrounded by water and impossible to reach by land when bridges are raised.
Forbes has reached out to Bezos for comment.

It's unclear where in Venice the wedding will take place, and CNN reported planners have secured multiple venues so plans can stay fluid in case protesters or inclement weather disrupt the celebration. The Wall Street Journal reported Bezos and Sánchez plan to get married on the Venetian island of San Giorgio Maggiore on Friday and hold a Saturday reception at Arsenale, a fortified medieval shipyard. The small city is spread out across over 110 small islands, with the historical center taking up approximately two square miles. Previously, a spokesperson for Brugnaro told CNN in March the wedding will take place on Bezos' $500 million superyacht known as the Koru. The Koru is a 417-foot sailing yacht, the second-largest of its kind in the world, meaning it would need to be anchored away from Venice's Grand Canal due to its size. Conversely, 'No Space for Bezos,' a local group protesting the event, has said the wedding will take place in the historic Church of the Abbey of Misericordia, according to the BBC.
Some locals in Venice, which has dealt with overtourism that has strained the city's infrastructure and services for years, have staged protests over concerns the wedding's scale will worsen some of the issues created by excessive tourist crowds. Activists have organized a 'No Space for Bezos' campaign opposing the wedding, posting banners and stickers throughout the city. Federica Toninelli, a Venetian activist with 'No Space for Bezos,' told Reuters the wedding is also a 'symbol of the exploitation of the city by outsiders.' Protesters have threatened to block access to canals and city streets in an effort to block wedding attendees from reaching party venues in the city, according to Variety. Oliviero Cassarà, a lead organizer and activist, said in a statement 'No Space for Bezos' has zero issue with Americans or people getting married in Venice, instead criticizing Bezos for his links to Trump and blasting the president's controversial trade policies. 'Bezos supported Trump economically and politically and is consequently co-responsible for this drift against us Italian and European citizens,' Cassarà said. Brugnaro has spoken out against the protesters and tried to reassure them the city is capable of handling the event, citing its hosting of the Venice Film Festival and G7 Summit. Brugnaro said he was 'ashamed of those who behave like this,' Variety reported. Protest organizers have criticized Brugnaro, insisting demonstrations will be peaceful. On Monday, the Greenpeace environmental activist organization joined 'No Space for Bezos' in Venice's St. Mark's Square, unveiling a banner with Bezos' face that read: 'IF YOU CAN RENT VENICE FOR YOUR WEDDING YOU CAN PAY MORE TAX.' Police quickly took the banner away, the Associated Press reported. Protesters also plan to block access to the Scuola Grande della Misericordia, where they believe Bezos will hold one of his wedding parties, and other unspecified protests are planned, The Guardian reported. Protesters have also installed life-size mannequins of Bezos around the city, including one in which the body is covered with dollar bills, and another that holds a bloody sign that says, 'Just Married.' How Many People Are Attending The Wedding And Who Is On The Guest List?
Venice officials have said the guest list for Bezos and Sánchez's wedding is limited to 200 people. On Tuesday afternoon, Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner, who were rumored to attend, were photographed arriving in Venice. Other celebrities so far spotted in Venice for the festivities include Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Brady, Gayle King, Orlando Bloom and Barry Diller. Investor Michael Kives has also been seen in Venice in addition to Dolce & Gabbana founder and billionaire Domenico Dolce, fashion designer and rum executive Spencer Antle and Queen Rania of Jordan, wife of the country's King Abdullah II. Bezos invited President Donald Trump to the wedding, the Journal reported, though Trump will not make the trip due to scheduling conflicts. How Many Wedding Events Are Bezos And Sánchez Hosting?
Bezos and Sánchez's multi-day celebration could span multiple parties, TMZ reported, citing anonymous sources who told the outlet the couple is planning three themed parties, including a pajama party. The couple was photographed on Bezos' Koru yacht Sunday throwing a foam party, in which they and their friends were covered in foam bubbles while tossing around beach balls and swimming in the ocean. It's unclear whether the foam party was part of the wedding parties, or if it was a prelude to their wedding celebrations. How Much Will The Wedding Cost?
Multiple reports have said the wedding will predictably cost millions of dollars. Reuters reported an estimated total cost of $46.5 million to $55.6 million. The Journal reported a luxury wedding with 200 guests such as Bezos' costs about $4 million, citing Jamie Simon, director of events at luxury planning firm Banana Split, which organized the multiday wedding between Sofia Richie Grainge and Atlantic Records CEO Elliot Grainge in 2023.
The Journal reported Lanza & Baucina, a London-based group that planned George and Amal Clooney's 2014 wedding in Venice, has been hired by Bezos and Sánchez. A representative for the group told the Journal its principles and the instructions of Bezos call for the 'minimizing of any disruption to the city, the respect for its residents and institutions and the overwhelming employment of locals in the crafting of the events.' The 2014 wedding had a generally positive perception, with locals lauding Clooney for his consideration and respect for Venice. Cassará even compared Bezos to Clooney in his statement, saying Bezos 'is not George Clooney with his romantic aura.' Forbes Valuation
We estimate Bezos' net worth at $231.4 billion as of Tuesday, making him the fourth-wealthiest person in the world behind Mark Zuckerberg ($250.5 billion), Larry Ellison ($256.3 billion) and Elon Musk ($411.1 billion). Key Background
Bezos and Sánchez met almost 10 years ago and began making public appearances together around 2019, when the two began dating. They became engaged in 2023 aboard the Koru superyacht, with Bezos offering Sánchez a 30-carat cushion cut pink diamond set in platinum, according to Vanity Fair.

Fragile Middle East Truce Heightens Geo-political, Macroeconomic Risks, Including for Europe

Israel and Iran have agreed on a tenuous truce this week following the recent hostilities. Nevertheless, the risk of further regional escalation – and the possible effect on oil markets and international trade – remains given the lack of international consequences for Israel and the United States from their attacks on Iran and uncertainty over what impact the joint military action has had in curtailing Iran's nuclear activities. In addition, the shift by the US away from a traditional role as the post-war guarantor of international norms raises the risks of broader conflicts elsewhere. The issue is particularly acute for Europe considering the ongoing war in Ukraine where there are limited signs the Kremlin is interested in pursuing a full ceasefire or longer-lasting truce. In the longer run, the Iran-Israel crisis may raise the risk of nuclear proliferation in the Middle East and beyond. The crisis may furthermore accelerate increases in regional military expenditure just as NATO members themselves have agreed to increase defence spending to 5% of GDP – more than double a former target of 2%. Such heightened geo-political risk is a core downside risk highlighted by Scope Ratings (Scope)'s latest global macro and credit outlook, not least for Europe. Growth in the region remains more moderate than that of the United States and China while increasing defence budgets risk creating extra fiscal strain for sovereigns already struggling to cut budget deficits and reverse increasing public debt. Germany's stagnant performance this year should drag euro-area growth to a less-than-expected 1.1%, 0.5pps below Scope Ratings' October-2024 forecasts, before a slight rebound in 2026 to 1.5%. By contrast, US growth remains comparatively resilient even though Scope has nevertheless lowered its projections to 1.8% for 2025 from a previous projection of 2.7%. China's economic growth is forecast at a better-than-anticipated 4.8% this year, supported by the ambitious government target for this year of 'around 5%' economic growth and the recent temporary easing of US-China trade tensions. Inflation remains another potential source of economic weakness, including for Europe, given Scope Ratings' consistent view that borrowing rates are likely to stay relatively higher for longer, given the higher structural price pressures than before the pandemic. Here, Europe's dependence on energy imports continues to be a vulnerability, not least if oil prices stay volatile amid the heightened and unresolved tensions within the Middle East region. This means continued risks for inflation and external-sector balances globally – especially for significant energy importers, which, inside the EU, include economies such as Malta, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Belgium and Greece. As things stand, Brent futures (for August delivery) have dropped to under USD 70 a barrel at the time of writing, from the highs last week at nearly USD 79 a barrel. Oil is today below the levels when Israel began the attacks recently on 13 June. But the uncertainties within the region ensure the volatility in crude prices stays elevated. Longer-run risks for energy prices remain twofold. Firstly, Iranian crude exports, which have already been declining, could fall further, which would tighten oil markets. The much more significant but less probable scenario involves a closure of the Strait of Hormuz through which 20% of global oil alongside Qatari exports of liquefied natural gas are transported by ship. That said, despite multiple conflicts involving Iran over the years, authorities have never closed the Strait partly because of the economy's reliance on sea-borne trade with China. As things stand, Scope projects euro-area inflation staying moderate at 2.1% in 2025 before 1.9% in 2026, but inflation risks remaining more significant for the United States, United Kingdom and Japan (Figure 1). Figure 1: Disinflation trend continues across many economies but meets road bumps in many others Headline inflation, with Scope forecasting, % year-over-year Regional instability also increases a risk of trade disruptions and the associated effects for consumer and business sentiment in the Middle East, Europe and beyond. Global growth is forecast to slow to 3.0% in 2025 (cut 0.4pps from Scope's October forecasts) from 3.3% in 2024 before continuing at a moderate 3.1% next year. Heather Graham sports black string bikini, Jane Seymour dons coral one-piece during Italian summer getaway

Heather Graham and Jane Seymour are diving straight into summer with new beach selfies in Italy. On Wednesday, Seymour took to Instagram to share a photo with Graham in big beach hats, sunglasses and their swimsuits – enjoying their summer vacation. "Heather Graham and I dove straight into summer mode. Saltwater in our hair, sunshine on our cheeks, and just enough mischief to keep the seagulls guessing," Seymour began her caption. She then asked, "If you were a mermaid for a day, what ocean secret would you unlock first?" Graham commented on Seymour's post, writing, "You are an inspiration Jane! I'm so glad we got to spend time together." "Heather Graham and I dove straight into summer mode. Saltwater in our hair, sunshine on our cheeks, and just enough mischief to keep the seagulls guessing." In the photo, Graham was seen wearing a black string bikini with oversized black sunglasses and a white sun hat. Seymour sported a coral one-piece swimsuit with black sunglasses and a black sun hat. Seymour previously posted a picture in the same one-piece on Saturday. "Soaking up the sunshine and the solstice magic. The longest day of the year calls for a little extra sparkle, a splash of sea, and a heart wide open to summer's beauty," she captioned her weekend post. The "Wedding Crashers" star posed in front of the ocean with her legs crossed while wearing a white and black sun hat. In May, Seymour commented on how she's been able to maintain the same figure she's had since she was in high school. She told the Daily Mail that she stuck to the Mediterranean diet, which has kept her a size four for decades. "It works so well and it tastes good," Seymour told the outlet, adding that the diet, "includes a lot of delicious food like tomatoes, olives and fish." Seymour explained that she doesn't find the diet restrictive. "People ask me if I have a cheat day with my diet and I respond that I am never on a diet. … If you think you are on a diet, you will lose track, you will cheat. "But if you find healthy foods you really love that make you feel good, you never feel shorted," she said. Seymour's fitness includes keeping "moving" by doing Pilates and weight-lifting.

'And Just Like That' Finally Gives Carrie a New Romance

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Episode 5 of And Just Like That Season 3 In the fifth episode of And Just Like That Season 3, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) is finally back in New York City where she belongs. And let us be the first to say we don't need her venturing down south to visit Aidan (John Corbett) again anytime soon. Following last week's invasion of the Carrie body snatchers storyline, an opening montage of Carrie click-clacking around her Gramercy Park townhouse in various designer heels resets the stage for a return to peak Carrie form. But a new wrench is thrown into the works in the form of an irritable downstairs neighbor. Enter Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake), a renowned British biographer who has decamped from London to spend six months holed up stateside while working on his new book, a biography of Margaret Thatcher. The problem is that Duncan likes to write at night and sleep during the day, meaning he goes to bed right around the time Carrie starts strutting around in her heels du jour. Their first encounter is not pleasant, with an incensed Duncan suddenly appearing at Carrie's door to have a stern word with her about her lack of sound-muffling rugs. But their back-and-forth reveals a natural chemistry between the two writers. The pair go on to have a number of passive-aggressive interactions as the episode progresses—he buys her fuzzy slippers on Amazon!—leading Carrie to text Samantha for the lowdown on Duncan's London reputation. Sam gamely reports back that she's heard he's "fun." By the end of the episode, which finds Carrie rescuing Duncan from death by burning pot, then having dinner with him in a restaurant, it's pretty clear a new romantic connection is ahead. Especially when Carrie comes home and does the unthinkable of—gasp—removing her heels so as not to add to Duncan's stress over his new writing project. Of course, Carrie is still technically in a relationship with Aidan. And the arrival of a dining table Aidan originally thumbsed-down before purchasing out from under Carrie as a surprise does show that he's finally putting in some effort. But as Carrie herself said, he can't be her "everyday fella" right now. If that's true for the next five years, Carrie should at least get to have some fun in the meantime. Flirting with Duncan Reeves seems like a good place to start. Notably, however, early in the episode, Carrie also has a conversation with Charlotte (Kristin Davis) about her desire for a "big, romantic, music-swell resolution" to the situation with Aidan. Knowing And Just Like That, the show may be foreshadowing a grand gesture from Aidan that arrives just as Carrie is beginning to have feelings for Duncan. Depending on where you fall on the Aidan fandom spectrum, that could either be a blessing or a curse.
