
Six years on, water shortage still a worry at Dharmapuri's Palacode
DHARMAPURI: In 2019, the state government had announced the Pulikarai-Jarthalav project at a cost of Rs 30.38 crore to bring surplus water from the Chinnar river basin to Pulikarai lake through a canal system.
The project was aimed at tackling acute water shortage impacting Palacode taluk and improving irrigation area of 432.8 acres. Six years later, this project is yet to be implemented, and farmers, aggrieved by the delay, urged the administration to take steps to hasten the project.
Speaking to TNIE, S Selvaraj from Pulikarai in Palacode said, 'The past few years of summer have been harsh for farmers with temperatures soaring, low pricing for produce and increasing pest attacks. Lack of water continues to remain the biggest concern.

Odisha govt hikes ex gratia for death due to wild animal attack to Rs 10 lakh
BHUBANESWAR : The Odisha government has increased the ex gratia for death due to wild animal attack to Rs 10 lakh from the existing `6 lakh, informed Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday. The chief minister also approved inclusion of new provisions in the existing compassionate grant norms. As per the decision, along with increase in the ex gratia compensation for death, if a house is damaged by wild animals, a new house will be provided under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana or an equivalent financial assistance will be given to the victim. Similarly, in case of damage to kitchen, paddy storage unit or goat shed, a compassionate assistance of Rs 3,000 will be provided. The government will also provide financial assistance for damage to compound wall in wild animal attack. If a boundary wall is damaged, financial support of Rs 5,000 per metre, up to a maximum limit of Rs 25,000, will be given as a compassionate grant.

Vision Action Plan Unit Offices set up across Andhra Pradesh
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has felt that setting up of district and constituency Vision Action Plan Unit Offices will come in handy to realise Swarnandhra Vision 2047. Pointing out that there have been no offices for MLAs at the constituency level so far, he said each unit will be manned by a team of nine members, and Rs 10 lakh has been allocated per office for its operation. Naidu virtually inaugurated the Vision Action Plan Unit Offices in all the 175 Assembly constituencies, and 26 districts in the State on Monday. Addressing MPs, MLAs and District Collectors, the Chief Minister urged them to drive the implementation of the vision forward. He described this initiative as a valuable opportunity for MLAs, and encouraged them to make citizens active participants in the transformation journey. The Vision Action Plan Unit will be headed by the local MLA. A special officer will serve as executive vice-chairperson. Other members will include the local MLC, Municipal/Urban Panchayat Chairperson, RDO/Sub-Collector, Tahsildar, MPDO, and Municipal Commissioner. The constituency mandal MPDO will act as the convener. Each team consists of an MLA, a District Nodal Officer, an academic, a young professional, and five vision staff from the GSWS system, he explained.

Solve all issues of road projects by end of July: Andhra CM
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to resolve all issues related to land acquisition, forest and wildlife clearances for ongoing and upcoming State and National Highway projects by the end of July. Holding a review meeting with senior officials and contractors at the State Secretariat on Monday, he expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in certain projects, and made it clear that no further delay in road construction will be tolerated. Officials informed him that 770 km of roads were completed in the last financial year at a total cost of Rs 11,325 crore.
