Playing to resonant tune crucial for Indian football team, emphasises AIFF Player of the Year Subhasish Bose
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], May 22 (ANI): Subhasish Bose's tremendously successful domestic season with Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG), capped off with the coveted AIFF Men's Player of the Year Award, has only fuelled the defender's hunger for more success in India's blue during the June FIFA International Window, as per the official website of AIFF.
'Yes, the year has gone very well for me, and this kind of season always helps boost the confidence of any player. It also motivates me to work harder and improve myself, so that I can play better for my country. We've got two international matches in front of us, and we want to give our best in these matches and try to get the desired results for India,' Bose told reporters during the training session in Kolkata, as quoted from the official website of AIFF.
The Indian team began training for the friendly against Thailand (June 4) and the AFC Asian Cup Qualifier against Hong Kong (June 10), on Monday at the AIFF National Centre of Excellence in Kolkata, Bose's hometown.
'I'm especially happy that the camp is being held in Kolkata, and that AIFF has made efforts to make facilities such as the NCE here, so that the national team can train on quality pitches such as the ones we get here,' said the 29-year-old.
Bose has 42 caps for the senior national team so far, and is aiming to represent India in a third consecutive AFC Asian Cup. From playing every single minute during the 2019 Asian Cup in the UAE as a 23-year-old, his seven-year journey with the Blue Tigers until now has been a hallmark of consistency.
'I consider myself to be fortunate to be able to play for the nation. Not all matches are the same, but all are important. Sometimes you do well, sometimes you don't. That's part of the game. What's important is that we all work together and play as a unit, then not only can we get the clean sheets, but also score goals,' he said.
Bose was the third-highest Indian scorer in the Indian Super League this season with six goals, emphatic numbers for a left-back. While he still eyes his first for the country, as long as India score and keep clean sheets, all will be well.
'I believe that we have a lot of talented and creative players who can score goals. Even Sunil (Chhetri) bhai is back, so I hope that in the next two matches, we score goals, and also defend in a compact manner and get clean sheets,' he noted.
'Perhaps we've made some small mistakes over the last few matches. But that's what we're here to work on. We need to improve ourselves in these areas before approaching the two matches ahead. Coach has been discussing the areas of improvement with us during this camp, and we are all training to get better in such areas,' Bose said.
Over a week of training in Kolkata, followed by six days in Thailand, is a healthy amount of time to prepare for the friendly game ahead of the all-important qualifier in Hong Kong. After a long and busy domestic season, culminating with the Kalinga Super Cup on May 3, the players had a brief rest period before getting back to the grind.
'We've all played for different clubs over the season, but we try to gel well together, which is very important because we've all played under different systems under different coaches. Now we have to settle into the system that coach Manolo has laid out for us so that we perform better in a collective manner,' he said.
'Playing under different coaches and systems is part and parcel of all professional footballers' lives. We've been doing that since we were kids. I don't think it's that difficult, but of course, we all need to be on the same tune, and play with the same mentality,' Bose added. (ANI)

WATCH: Yashasvi Jaiswal sparks controversy after refusing to walk following umpire's decision in India A vs England Lions clash
Yashasvi Jaiswal stood his ground and refused to walk. New Delhi: India A opener Yashasvi Jaiswal expressed dissatisfaction after being dismissed for 17 runs in the second unofficial Test against England Lions. Umpire's decision to give him out leg before wicket (LBW) off a Chris Woakes delivery, despite Jaiswal's apparent amusement at the call, ended his innings early. During England Lions' match against India, Yashasvi Jaiswal was stumped in the seventh over. After winning the toss and electing to field, England's captain, James Rew, saw Jaiswal miss a full delivery, leading to his dismissal. Jaiswal initially disputed the umpire's decision before eventually leaving the field. The Barmy Army subsequently commented on the incident. Won't be the only time Woakes gets Jaiswal this — England's Barmy Army 🏴🎺 (@TheBarmyArmy) June 6, 2025 In the first unofficial Test match at Canterbury, Jaiswal scored 24 and 64 runs. His opening partnership with KL Rahul in the upcoming first Test at Headingley, Leeds (starting June 20th), is now confirmed after both players batted together in the second unofficial Test. Rahul, absent from the first match, joined the team after obtaining permission from the BCCI and demonstrated promising form with three boundaries. India's upcoming cricket series will begin with a practice match between the India A team and the senior national team. This match follows the current game and serves as preparation for the series opener. Jaiswal and Rahul will be key players for India in this series, as they are expected to fill the void left by the retired Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The five-Test series presents a significant challenge for both players. During India's Australian tour, Yashasvi Jaiswal's performance stood out, achieving the highest individual run total of 391, including a top score of 161. This was one of only three centuries scored by Indian batsmen on the tour. In contrast, KL Rahul is a seasoned campaigner in England, embarking on his third tour. His previous tours yielded 299 runs in 2018 (including a high score of 149) and 315 runs in 2021 (including a century at Lord's). KL Rahul's performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was mixed; while he scored 276 runs, a relatively modest total compared to his potential, he outperformed many of his teammates, achieving two half-centuries. His return to the opening position generates significant expectation that he will bolster India's batting against England's less experienced pace bowlers.

"Cannot Be Silent": BCCI's Stern Signal After RCB Official Is Arrested Over Stampede At IPL Title Celebration
What was supposed to be a glorious moment for Royal Challengers Bengaluru has turned into its darkest after what happened a day after the side's first-ever IPL title win. After ending an 18-year drought, RCB received a hero's welcome in Bengaluru but the fanfare turned disastrous as 11 people lost their lives while close to 50 were injured. Four people have been arrested in connection with the stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium. According to the police, Nikhil Sosale, a top marketing official of the RCB, was among those arrested. He was on his way to Mumbai when he was arrested from Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, at around 6.30am. BCCI is now thinking to introduce guidelines for victory celebrations. "At some stage BCCI will have to do something. We cannot be a silent spectator," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz. "It was a private affair of RCB but we at the BCCI are responsible for cricket in India and we will try to ensure such incidents do not recur in future." Earlier, Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir said that road shows should not be held at all after such victories. "I think the lives of people are far more important and I will continue to say. We can be a little bit careful of not holding these kinds of roadshows and can probably have them closed doors or something like this in a stadium," India coach Gautam Gambhir said. "When I used to play, I didn't believe much in roadshows. I don't believe in them today and I don't believe in them in the future. Winning is important, celebrations are important, but more important than that is the life of any person. So if we are not prepared, or if we cannot handle the crowd in that way, then might as well these roadshows should not take place." India's star batter Smriti Mandhana expressed her grief at the death of 11 people in a stampede on Wednesday near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Mandhana posted on her Instagram account, "Heartbroken to hear about the lives lost in Bengaluru. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones. Please stay safe, everyone."

Norway Chess 2025 came to a wrap on Friday, and the final day was filled with epic drama. Magnus Carlsen's game vs Arjun Erigaisi ended in a draw, and then he won the title as Fabiano Caruana defeated D Gukesh. Trying to a stage a comeback, a massive blunder by Gukesh in a time scramble, saw him lose to Caruana in heartbreaking manner. The Indian GM needed a win. Meanwhile, Carlsen ended the tournament with 16 points and Caruana came second with 15.5. Meanwhile, Gukesh is third with 14.5 points. Giving his verdict on Gukesh and Arjun, he remarked, 'They are all very good (Gukesh and Arjun), but they still need a little bit of time to prepare. We also have a tournament running simultaneously in Armenia, where Pragg (R Praggnanandhaa) and Aravindh Chithambaram showed very good chess... It is not a positive memory, but the game that will stick out is the game against Gukesh.' Meanwhile, Carlsen also told Chess24 that Gukesh is not ahead of other top chess GMs. 'Gukesh showed in this tournament he's on track, he's doing fantastic, but he's not ahead of track,' he said. Carlsen also had a message for the younger generation. He said, 'I felt I generally played the best chess, but stumbling over the finish line, winning by half a point after a lot of results go my way…' 'I feel in parts of the game I'm a lot better than the kids... I generally feel I can outplay the kids, which feels good!' Despite not winning the title, Gukesh will have plenty of positives from the tournament, which also saw him get his maiden classical win vs Carlsen in Round 6.
