Damien Madison, 27, faces multiple charges in connection to this crimespree including first-degree assault, drive-by shooting, unlawful possession of a gun. Madison also has several active cases in Thurston County. During the hearing, the prosecution addressed the judge regarding Madison's charges. "He was willing to sacrifice his own safety, the safety of the men and women in this community that give their lives every single day, and that he fired upon them in such a wanton and disregard for the safety of everyone in this community is abhorrent to the state," a prosecutor said in court. "Mr. Madison is someone who poses an extreme danger to himself, to the loved one that was with him, to everyone that operates a motor vehicle in this community," she added. Sheriff Derek Sanders said the large turnout was about standing with one of their own. "If you think that no one got hurt, you don't get shot at and just come back normal. I don't care who you are. Whether you're in law enforcement, or military, member of the community, anytime you got rounds flying your way, you don't come out the same on the other side. I would just say it's important for our deputies to see the kind of community support," Sanders said. During the hearing, Madison wiped his eyes several times and buried his head in his hands after the judge noted he could face life in prison if convicted. "I hope there is some remorse, and regardless of how this case resolves, even for the worst of the worst offenders, I hope they can find a way to somehow become better people and amend what they have done," Sanders added. Madison is currently being held without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled, and trial proceedings are expected to begin later this summer. 2 found guilty in 10-year-old girl's Fourth of July shooting death in Cleveland
[Attached video: Previous FOX 8 coverage] CLEVELAND (WJW) — It's been nearly one year since a 10-year-old girl was shot and killed while celebrating the Fourth of July holiday at a family gathering in Cleveland. Wednesday, two men charged in her death, Juwone Deaver and Jemerious Davis, were both found guilty of murder. Young mother killed in shooting at Cleveland Metroparks Mill Creek Falls On the evening of July 4, 2024, friends and family had gathered at a home at West 125th Street and Triskett Road. As FOX 8 News has previously reported, 10-year-old Gracie Griffin was standing outside the residence along with Deaver, Davis and Katie McKnight. According to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O'Malley, a vehicle with four people inside drove to the house for the party. The vehicle drove past the house, turned around and pulled in front of the home. 'Deaver and Davis then opened fire shooting multiple times with a .45 caliber firearm and an AK-style firearm at the vehicle,' a Wednesday news release from O'Malley's office stated. Gracie Griffin was struck in the head during the shooting and pronounced dead at the hospital. Investigators determined that no shots were fired from the vehicle. There was 'only evidence of outgoing fire from the residence.' Retired Cleveland police officer killed in fire 'An innocent 10-year-old girl lost her life because too many guns are finding their way into the hands of stupid people,' O'Malley was quoted in the news release. 'While this verdict does not bring back Gracie, it is a significant step in justice for her. My thoughts and prayers remain with her family.' Syracuse man sentenced to prison after firing loaded rifle at East Syracuse gas station
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — 36-year-old Richard Bradley, of Syracuse, was sentenced to 14 months in prison, as he was convicted of being a felon who was found in possession of a firearm last fall. This stems from an incident back in September 2024 when Manlius Police found him being subdued in an East Syracuse Sunoco parking lot after firing his rifle. At the time, police told NewsChannel 9 that Bradley had fired an AR-15-style rifle while inside his car through the backseat and into the trunk. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, as part of Bradley's guilty plea, he admitted that he had possessed a loaded assault rifle in his vehicle, which was parked at the gas station. 'Bradley inadvertently fired the rifle several times, but did not strike anyone. As a result of his prior felony conviction for criminal mischief, Bradley could not lawfully possess a firearm. Court Judge Glenn Suddaby also imposed a three-year term of supervised release to begin following Bradley's term of imprisonment, and ordered him to forfeit the rifle he possessed. 'When Bradley fired the rifle in the parking lot, he put the lives of everyone at that gas station in danger,' U.S. Attorney Sarcone stated. New York Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Manlius Police Department investigated the case with assistance from the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office.
