In Nagpur, cutoffs to affect only aided seats

Nagpur: Unlike in metro cities like Mumbai and Delhi, the cutoffs for junior college admissions do not give sleepless nights to students or parents.
The reason is that there are lots of vacant Class 11 seats in Nagpur, which ensures that everybody gets admission to good colleges.
The only place cutoffs matter is for the aided seats in junior colleges, where the fee is extremely low.
Kabir Rawlekar, vice-principal of Dr Ambedkar College, said, "The aided seats in our college are as low as 500 for the entire year in the commerce stream. For science, it's 1,000 for the entire year. It's higher than commerce due to the cost of conducting practicals."
All aided colleges have unaided seats too, which means those who could not get a seat in the aided section can secure admission in that college, albeit by paying a higher price.
But even that premium rate is not very high.
Students will end up paying around 10-15 times more, which sounds high in multiples, but compared to what private schools charge, this fee is negligible. So unaided seats come with a fee tag of 6,000 to 15,000. This, compared to an average of 50,000 per year fee in a private CBSE school, is far less.
Even a budget state-board school charges around 20,000 per year in Nagpur.
Rawlekar said, "This year all admissions will be done through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP)."
