Unnecessary power cuts in Lucknow won't be tolerated: Minister to officials
Amid rising temperatures, Uttar Pradesh energy minister AK Sharma conducted a surprise inspection of the 33/11 kV power substation at CG City under the Raj Bhavan division here to assess power supply management and operational readiness.
Reviewing the substation's logbook and load panel, Sharma examined the power transformer load and directed officials to ensure uninterrupted power supply in line with rising demand. The substation, with a capacity of 2×10 MVA, supplies power to areas, including Yahiyamau, Chhatnagar, Swati City, Ektanagar and Prithvipuram through three public feeders.
Expressing displeasure over repeated shutdowns for maintenance on the same feeder, the minister instructed officials to complete all repair work in a single instance to minimise disruptions. He emphasised that unnecessary power cuts, tripping and low voltage issues in Lucknow would not be tolerated.
Sharma directed officials to swiftly address transformer damage or malfunction, maintain cleanliness around power equipment and promptly resolve power interruptions reported via the 1912 helpline. Non-responsive staff members would face strict action, he warned. Sharma also urged consumers to cooperate in curbing power theft and conserving energy.
The state government, he said, had undertaken extensive upgrades in power infrastructure over the past three years, including the replacement of dilapidated lines, poles and transformers and capacity augmentation under the RDSS scheme and business plan at an investment of ₹24,000-25,000 crore. Senior officials, including executive engineer, SDO and junior engineers, were present during the inspection.

Rajasthan CM calls for public participation in water conservation initiatives
A fortnight-long water conservation campaign was launched in Rajasthan on Thursday with an emphasis on restoration of traditional water sources, construction of water harvesting structures, ground water recharge, and repair of dams and canals. The campaign's inauguration coincided with World Environment Day. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma inaugurated the campaign at the Rajasthan International Centre here while calling for greater public participation in water conservation initiatives. 'The traditions of water conservation have been an integral part of our cultural heritage. It is our moral responsibility to prevent the adverse impact of climate change,' Mr. Sharma said. Mr. Sharma said people in Rajasthan had adopted unique methods to conserve water in the past. 'Structures like stepwells, johads, ponds, and wells are living examples of the water conservation traditions of our State,' he said, while pointing out that his government was constructing at least 125 water conservation structures in each district. Conservation projects Foundation stones for projects worth ₹345 crore will be laid during the campaign until June 20, while water sources will be cleaned and shramdaan (voluntary labour) camps will be organised, besides tree plantation activities, and people will take a pledge to reduce plastic use. The Chief Minister appealed to people to adopt an 'eco-friendly lifestyle' and plant at least one tree in their vicinity in the upcoming monsoon season and take regular care of it. 'We will be able to gift clean air, water, and earth to the coming generations with this initiative and help make a green Rajasthan,' he said. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the State Pollution Control Board and the Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi, to prepare the Climate Change Adaptation Plan 2030. MoUs were also signed for an emission trading scheme and an early warning system for Alwar and Bhiwadi. Mr. Sharma also addressed a shramdaan programme at the historic Ramgarh dam, near Jaipur, aimed at its restoration, and later visited the banks of the Chambal river at Keshoraipatan in Bundi district to perform rituals and inaugurate development projects related to water conservation.

Gomti clean-up drive creates awareness to protect environ
Lucknow: During the combined celebration of Ganga Dussehra, World Environment Day and 53rd birthday of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, an environmental awareness and river clean-up drive was organised by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation on Gomti river banks on Thursday, during which hyacinth and plastic waste were removed from the river. Addressing the event, urban development minister A K Sharma said, "We cannot remain safe by harming environment. Our culture teaches us that all five elements, earth, water, fire, air, and space, are sacred and if we pollute them, we only endanger ourselves." Environmental balance was crucial for human survival, added Sharma. The campaign began at 6am and covered the 8-km stretch from Gomti Barrage to Gulala Ghat. LMC divided the riverfront into eight clusters, each overseen by a senior municipal official. Teams removed water hyacinth, idol remnants, plastic and other waste from the river. The initiative included planting over 1,000 saplings of species including Rudraksha, banyan, mango and hibiscus along the riverfront. Sharma and Mayor Sushma Kharkwal participated by planting trees on Laxman Mela Ground. The event featured interactive activities like 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam', 'Plogging for Plastic', and 'Human Chain for Environment' to engage public participation. LMC commissioner Gaurav Kumar praised collaborative nature of the campaign, which united citizens, officials and volunteers. Kharkwal dedicated the campaign as a birthday gift to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, highlighting his commitment to environmental conservation and announced plans for similar clean-up drives on national leaders' anniversaries to maintain public involvement. She emphasised that cleanliness was collective responsibility and urged citizens to adopt eco-friendly habits for future generations.
