FORT WORTH, Texas — Scottie Scheffler joined elite company by winning last week's PGA Championship, pushing himself into a group with Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only players in the modern era to win 15 times (including three majors) before the age of 29.
And although at the beginning of the 2025 season, after a freak accident around the holidays, Scheffler was in the top-5 just once in his first five tournaments. But he's posted four top-5 finishes since then, including a win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and the major victory at Quail Hollow.
But at the Charles Schwab Challenge, Scheffler is dangerously close to missing the cut, which would mark the first time in 55 starts that he hadn't reached the weekend.
Scheffler, who leads the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup standings, finished his second round with 71. he bogeyed his last hole of the day, No. 9 since he started on the back, to fall to 1 over for the tournament. He posted a 68 on Thursday in the opening round.
Scheffler is 1 over, and that's exactly the projected cut as of 2:15 p.m. The cut line for the event, held at Colonial Country Club, is the top 65 golfers and ties after 36 holes. Currently, Scheffler is in a tie for 49th, but the winds have subsided and scores could dip a little in the afternoon.
Although he played fairly well, Scheffler did seem to wince after a tee shot on the second hole at Colonial.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Could Eye Engagement Plan for Summer, Relays Yahoo
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Could Eye Engagement Plan for Summer, Relays Yahoo originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's almost football time. ... which also means, if a "football couple'' wants to advance in their relationship? Now might be the time. A bit of uncertainty surrounded Travis Kelce following the Kansas City Chiefs' embarrassing loss in Super Bowl LIX, as some anticipated the future Hall of Fame tight end might retire from football and trot off into the sunset alongside pop icon girlfriend Taylor Swift. But he's back. For one more year, it seems. And the NFL's biggest power couple is about to be back in the spotlight. The latest of their offseason fun came Wednesday night when the couple was seen heading to dinner, enjoying the night together in Florida. ... where he's been training. Mandatory minicamp begins next week for Kansas City, just over a month out from training camp set to begin on July 21. Before too long, No. 87 will be back on the field for his final campaign. And with the relationship still going strong, fans should expect to see Swift watching from a luxury suite per usual, cheering on her beau with friends and family gathered around. Maybe with a ring on her finger, as Yahoo relays in "rumor'' form. Yahoo uses a series of fun phrases about "popping the question'' and "the couple's engagement window is fixed'' and "he's working on the ring'' while adding ... "Many people even believe that Kelce is looking towards a summer proposal. If Swift and Kelce are involved, it's not insignificant, but ... when the site writes, "Kelce wants to create a grand proposal that tops other unforgettable and iconic moments in his girlfriend's life''? Our reaction is: "You mean like any other romantic couple wants''?This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 6, 2025, where it first appeared.

Richard Jefferson wears Doris Burke shirt as announcer is thankful for support amid uncertain ESPN future
Doris Burke is receiving a lot of love this weekend. While at Oklahoma City's Devon Park on Friday for the Women's College World Series between Texas Tech and Texas, Richard Jefferson put out an endorsement for his broadcast partner. He joined the SEC Network pregame show dressed in a 'My Favorite Broadcaster is Doris Burke' shirt while being interviewed by Haylie McCleney, Tori Vidales and Alyssa Lang. This year marks Burke's second NBA Finals as the lead analyst for ESPN. Jefferson, whom ESPN 'intends' to keep despite being on an expiring contract, per the report, clearly wanted to show that he has Burke's back. 'I saw the things that were leaked yesterday about Doris Burke and I just wanted to say a couple of things. She has changed the game for women in broadcasting,' Carlisle said. 'Doris is a great example of courage and putting herself out there. It was just so sad to see the reports leaked, really unnecessarily, before such a celebrated event. Doris is a friend. I've asked her many times, when is she getting into coaching, because she has such great knowledge. There are many women who she's paved the way for.' 6 Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle speaks to the media after the Pacers defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder during game one of the 2025 NBA Finals at Paycom Center. 'He reached out to me earlier in the day and I just want you guys to consider – I'm going to try not to get emotional here,' Burke said. 'The man is about to coach Game 1 of the NBA Finals, he has absolutely reached the pinnacle of his sport. 'But he took the time to check in on another human being to make sure I was okay. He has always been an enormous supporter of mine. And I just think it speaks to the human being he is. When he walked in that coaches meeting, I always give him a hug, I held him a little bit longer last night.'

There are 18 contenders at RBC Canadian Open who need to win Sunday to get into U.S. Open
There are 18 contenders at RBC Canadian Open who need to win Sunday to get into U.S. Open The U.S. Open is just about filled up with six available spots still to go. The winner of the 2025 RBC Canadian Open, if he's not already in the field for Oakmont, earns at least Thursday and Friday tee times at the national championship next week. The Canadian Open is the final PGA Tour event before the U.S. Open, the final tune-up for those in, the final hope for those not. Golfers in contention at RBC Canadian Open who need to win to get into U.S. Open There are 29 golfers inside the top 20 (more specifically, there are 29 golfers tied for 18th or better after 36 holes in Toronto). Of those 29, there are 18 who are not in the U.S. Open field. Everyone tied for 18th or better is no more than six shots off the lead with half the tournament still to go. Neither of the top two so far in Toronto are in the Oakmont field. Pos. Name Score U.S. Open: In or out 1 Cameron Champ -12 Out 2 Andrew Putnam -10 Out T3 Thorbjorn Olesen -9 In T3 Richard Lee -9 Out T3 Nick Taylor -9 In T3 Victor Perez -9 In T7 Ryan Fox -8 Out T7 Jake Knapp -8 Out T7 Shane Lowry -8 In T7 Cristobal Del Solar -8 Out T7 Sam Burns -8 In T7 Matteo Manassero -8 Out T13 Danny Willett -7 Out T13 Rasmus Hojgaard -7 In T13 Matt McCarty -7 In T13 John Pak -7 Out T13 Taylor Pendrith -7 In T18 Cameron Young -6 In T18 Kevin Yu -6 Out T18 Peter Malnati -6 Out T18 David Skinns -6 Out T18 Trey Mullinax -6 Out T18 Jesper Svensson -6 Out T18 Beau Hossler -6 Out T18 Lee Hodges -6 Out T18 Mackenzie Hughes -6 In T18 Keith Mitchell -6 Out T18 Byeong Hun An -6 In T18 Jackson Suber -6 Out So it's pretty simple for those golfers: win and you're in.
