Filipino technical intern accused of smuggling marijuana via postal mail
IWATE (TR) – Authorities here have announced the arrest of a Filipino technical intern trainee for allegedly smuggling marijuana and liquid narcotics through postal mail, reports the Sankei Shimbun (May 9).
According to the Oshu Police Station, Jericho Estrada Dela Peña, a 33-year-old resident of Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture, was accused of violating the Narcotics Control Act made on April 23.
The suspect was accused of importing cannabis and other drugs from the Philippines in April. According to the Ofunato Branch of the Hakodate Customs Office, Tokyo Customs officials found approximately 2.4 grams of marijuana and around 0.23 grams of liquid narcotics during an inspection of international mail on April 9.
Dela Peña denies the charges, police said.
The Ofunato branch, which conducted a joint investigation, also filed a complaint with the Morioka District Public Prosecutors Office on May 9 on suspicion of violating the Customs Act.

Osaka scouting group illegally referred women to soaplands
OSAKA (TR) – Law enforcement in Aichi and Kagawa prefectures have rearrested four men from Osaka City-based commercial sex scouting group Seed Advertising for illegally referring women to soapland bathhouses, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Apr. 16). Takeru Fukuyama, 27, is senior member of Seed Advertising. Police rearrested Fukuyama and three associates for introducing women to a soapland in Takamatsu City, Kagawa. Three other associates were arrested in this case for the first time. Police accused the seven suspects of violating the Employment Security Act regarding introductions for harmful business purposes. Seed Advertising formed in January 2022. From that time until this past March, the group made a total of at least 1.3 billion yen in profits from women's introduction fees and other sources, according to Aichi Prefectural Police. The group, which has up to 10 members, has conducted transactions with approximately 400 adult entertainment establishments in 46 prefectures and administrative districts. It is suspected that freelance scouts arranged for women they recruited on social-networking sites to be placed in adult entertainment establishments and received 15 percent of the women's sales as 'scout kickbacks.' The rearrest charges for Fukuyama and his associates allege that they introduced a woman in her early 20s to a soapland in Takamatsu City around June 11 last year. Fukuyama and his associates had been arrested twice before on suspicion of introducing other women in their 20s to soapland businesses in Kaga and Kofu cities, Ishikawa Prefecture.

Shizuoka police officer dismissed over alleged sexual misconduct with family members
SHIZUOKA (TR) – An investigative source with the Shizuoka Prefectural Police revealed on June 14 that a male police sergeant was dismissed earlier this year on suspicion of carrying out indecent acts with female relatives without their consent, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 14). According to the source, the sergeant, aged in his 40s, was accused of non-consensual indecent assault and violating the Act on the Punishment of Filming Sexual Conduct His dismissal was effective on March 6. According to the investigative source, the sergeant was suspected of committing indecent acts, such as touching the bodies of the female family members, from around April to late May 2024. He also secretly filmed the same women between around August 2023 and May 2024. He admitted to the charges during questioning by the prefectural police. After receiving a consultation from a relative of one victim, police conducted an investigation on a voluntary basis. The Shizuoka District Public Prosecutors Office decided not to prosecute the case because the victim did not report the incident. Police did not make the dismissal public, citing reasons such as protecting the victim's privacy. According to the prefectural police inspection department, they decided that it was unavoidable not to make a public announcement based on the National Police Agency's guidelines for announcing disciplinary actions. The department said, 'We will not be making any press announcements in the future.'
