Aidel confirmed that the state government has approved the project under the Radda initiative.
KUCHING (May 22): The upgrading project for the road leading to SK Ulu Entaih and Rumah Sang in Rantau Chire, Ulu Entabai is expected to be tendered in the third quarter (Q3) of this year, according to Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo.
He confirmed that the state government has approved the project under the Rajang Delta Development Agency (Radda) initiative.
'The project is currently in its final stages of tender document preparation and land acquisition,' he said.
He said this in response to a question from Rolland Duat Jubin (GPS-Meluan) during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.
To another supplementary question, Aidel revealed that the project is estimated to cost RM22 million.
'For the estimated cost of the project, and considering the project ceiling is RM25 million, we are working within a projected budget of RM22 million,' he said.
The upgrade will cover approximately 14km of existing road, which will be improved to meet JKR R1 Standard Specification.
This includes sealed pavement and shoulders on both sides of the carriageway.
The project also involves the maintenance of two short- to medium-span bridges and the replacement of three existing steel bridges with culverts to improve road safety and resilience. aidel lariwoo DUN road upgrading project Ulu Entabai

Tiong orders pullout from Sibu association over ‘interference' by politician

PDP president Tiong King Sing accused the political party involved of being arrogant and stubborn, and its leaders of being obsessed with power and position. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Progressive Democratic Party president Tiong King Sing has ordered party members to withdraw from a Chinese association in Sibu, Sarawak, over an unnamed politician's interference in the association's elections. Tiong claimed to have received numerous complaints about the political party leader's actions in the election of the Sibu Chinese Community Leaders Association's committee members. He did not name the party nor the leader, but gave a hint that it might be a party associated with PDP by questioning whether the party in question would be able to win future elections on its own 'without the support of allied parties'. Tiong said the politician was trying to manipulate the association's elections using his political influence. Tiong claimed he had evidence that the political party had issued instructions about the association's elections. Tiong, who is vice-chairman of the state's ruling coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), warned against treating community leadership positions as political assets. 'This is my final warning. The political party in question has utterly failed to uphold the ideals of power-sharing and inclusiveness,' he said in a Facebook post. 'We do not need their so-called 'mercy' nor are we interested in being part of a body that has become another political stage for a party.' Tiong said the role of community leaders was to serve the public, and such leadership posts should never be the subject of a power struggle among political parties. He accused the other party's leaders of being obsessed with power and position. 'They bicker endlessly over trivial matters and seek to monopolise social resources and political capital,' he said. 'Their behaviour is nothing short of disgraceful.' PDP is a component of GPS, along with Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, Parti Rakyat Sarawak, and the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP). PDP and SUPP leaders have clashed multiple times in recent years, particularly after the former accepted Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) leaders and members en bloc last year. PSB, led by Wong Soon Koh until its dissolution, is a splinter of SUPP.

He mentioned that the project was originally scheduled for completion in May, but it encountered a minor delay due to the rainy weather earlier this year. Chieng revealed that he raised the funding for Phase 2 during the recent State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting. 'As we are set to complete hase 1 of the project in August, we require phase 2 to bring the project to fruition. The design, proposal, and working paper originate from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sibu and have received approval from DID Sarawak. 'During the (recent) DUN sitting session, I brought up this topic, and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian responded, stating that for the second phase of this project, the DID is putting up the submission under the Sarawak government (for) RMK13 (13th Malaysia Plan), Rolling Plan 1 in 2026, with the project costing RM56.6 million,' he said. Chieng made the remarks to reporters during a sacrificial meat distribution programme at Masjid Al-Muhajirin Sentosa, attended by SUPP Bukit Assek chairman Datuk Chieng Buong Toon and mosque chairman Ramli Hussin. He also announced a second project request for upgrading the drainage system and associated works in the Jerrwit and Ek Dee areas, including Kampung Saujana. 'With the project cost of RM41.75 million, it will be put out under RMK13, rolling plan 2. 'We are thrilled that Bukit Assek (constituency) will benefit from these two projects as well,' he said. drainage project infrastructure joseph chieng lead Taman Rimba Bukit Lima

Iswardy slams ‘blackmail' over Petronas role in Sarawak

SARAWAK PKR leader Iswardy Morni claims the federal government's decision to grant gas distribution rights to Sarawak under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 has directly triggered the recent layoff of 5,000 Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) workers. He argued that the move was made to fulfil political demands rather than serve national interest and warns it could jeopardise Petronas' long-term stability. 'Petronas is not only struggling in terms of operations and revenue, but it has also been forced to let go of thousands of workers. 'We are expected to simply accept a decision that, at its core, stems from political blackmail – If we don't get it, we'll jump (parties),' he said in a statement, without naming any specific political party. Citing Petronas CEO Tengku Muhammad Taufik's recent warning that the company could shut down in a decade without restructuring, Iswardy criticised Sarawak's political leadership for what he views as short-sightedness in their resource demands. 'Although he (Tengku Muhammad Taufik) tried to 'play politics' by denying any link between the granting of gas distribution rights to Sarawak and Petronas' internal crisis, we don't need to be geniuses to see the signals of what's really happening,' he added. He directed strong criticism at Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), which has backed the takeover of gas distribution rights from the federal government. 'Congratulations on killing your own golden goose, GPS,' he said. The dispute stems from the 2017 formation of Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros), a state-owned company set up to manage Sarawak's petroleum and natural gas resources. This move created overlapping authority with Petronas, which has long held exclusive control under the Petroleum Development Act 1974, sparking ongoing federal-state tensions over control of oil and gas resources.
