UAE: Gang of four faces trial for stealing 20 MacBook Pro laptops
Four men face trial at the Dubai Criminal Court for allegedly stealing 20 MacBook Pro laptops from two employees of an electronics trading company during a delivery in Al Baraha area.
According to police investigations, the company had tasked two of its staff with delivering the laptops to another firm located in in Al Baraha. When the employees arrived at the location, they were approached by four men who falsely claimed to be expecting the delivery.
The suspects took the laptops, tied the two employees to chairs, and fled the scene.
The victims managed to alert Dubai Police, who immediately responded to the scene. Officers lifted fingerprints and reviewed surveillance footage to identify the suspects. A manhunt was then launched to track down the culprits.
Police first arrested one of the suspects, who later cooperated and led officers to another accomplice. The remaining two were eventually tracked down and taken into custody.
During questioning, all four men confessed to the robbery. Police were also able to recover all 20 stolen laptops, which the suspects intended to sell at reduced prices to another electronics company.
Asian expat faces deportation
In another case, a 35-year-old Asian man has been sentenced to one month in jail and deportation after being convicted of stealing a laptop from a woman he lured through a fake job advertisement posted on social media, a Dubai court has ruled.
According to court records, the victim responded to the job ad and contacted the accused. He asked her to bring her laptop so he could install a programme allegedly related to the role. However, once she arrived, he distracted her, stole the device, and fled the location.
Dubai Police later arrested the suspect and recovered the stolen laptop, even though it had already been sold.
The Dubai Misdemeanours Court found him guilty of theft and ordered his immediate deportation after his prison term was completed.

UAE Team Emirates-EXG rider Isaac del Toro insisted he is proud of his efforts at the Giro d'Italia despite being beaten to the title by British rider Simon Yates. The Mexican went into Saturday's penultimate Stage 20 in pole position to become UAE Team Emirates second consecutive winner of the Grand Tour race, following in the slipstream of Tadej Pogacar last year. But Briton's Simon Yates, who started the day third in the general classification 81 seconds behind the leader, produced a magnificent ride on the Colle delle Finestre – the highest point of this year's race – to overhaul second-place Richard Carapaz and Del Toro in the standings. The Visma-Lease A Bike rider finished the stage almost four minutes clear of Del Toro with the Giro crown all but in the bag going into Sunday's ceremonial finale around Rome. Del Toro had snatched the overall lead on Stage 9 when he took charge of the pink jersey which he kept a tight hold on for 10 more stages. But it was not to be for the 21-year-old who came agonisingly close to victory in what was only his second Grand Tour race after last year's Vuelta a Espagna. 'Obviously I am super happy to finish second, I need to be mature with this and, of course, a lot of people are surprised that I can be at this level now,' said Del Toro, whose victory on Stage 17 was his first on a Grand Tour. Emirates boss says Boeing conveying 'cautious optimism', with 777X delivery expected by 2027
Emirates Airline 's president Tim Clark said that Boeing has struck a tone of 'cautious optimism' during its meetings with the US plane maker, with expectations that the long-delayed 777X will be delivered by early 2027. The Dubai-based airline could receive its first 777X wide-body between the third or fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027, and is getting 'clearer messages' from Boeing on that delivery programme, he said on the sidelines of the International Air Transport Association (Iata) annual meeting in New Delhi on Sunday. 'We've engaged with the senior management of Boeing recently and they seem cautiously optimistic,' Mr Clark told reporters in the Indian capital. Emirates is still awaiting delivery of the Boeing 777X after the US plane maker faced a series of delays on that programme since 2020. With ongoing delays in new aircraft deliveries, Emirates will now put 219 aircraft through a full cabin refresh at a total investment of $5 billion in its retrofit programme, according to its latest annual financial report. The airline has added the first Airbus A350-900 to its fleet but held off from ordering the larger A350-1000 variant as Mr Clark remains critical of Rolls-Royce's engine performance in the Gulf's harsh and hot climate conditions. Meanwhile, Emirates, a long-standing champion of the Airbus A380, will keep the double-decker in its fleet until the end of the next decade, Mr Clark said. This comes as it seeks to extend the lifespan of the aircraft with a lack of a clear alternative as the 777X is yet to be certified, while the A350-1000's engines are yet to prove their durability for the Gulf's operating conditions. Iata's 81st annual meeting of airline chiefs, with IndiGo as the host carrier, is taking place amid the turbulence of global trade tensions and difficulties around meeting the industry's goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
