Man Utd 2-0 Everton: United close in on Champions League

BBC News30-03-2025

Two more wins are all Manchester United need to secure a top-three finish in the Women's Super League and a return to the Champions League.Marc Skinner's side weren't at their best against Everton on Sunday - Everton had the better of the early stages - but they didn't need to be to maintain the seven-point gap between themselves and fourth-place Manchester City. The home side were fortunate that Courtney Brosnan spilled a cross at the feet of Dominique Janssen to tap home, but there was nothing lucky about Grace Clinton's clever flicked finish shortly after half-time.Injuries picked up by Celin Bizet and Leah Galton took some of the shine off a routine afternoon, but United will go into their FA Cup semi-final clash with City off the back of eight wins in their last nine games. With 14 more points than they had at this stage last season, it's been an impressive season for a team many suggested would struggle following high profile exits last summer. Returning to Europe and qualifying for the group stages for the first time would be just reward.

Marcus Rashford 'grows close to glamorous blonde semi-pro padel player' as pair enjoy St Tropez trip

Marcus Rashford has reportedly 'grown close' to semi-pro padel player Jaki Palm, sources claim. The padel player, 23, who showed off her inked shoulder and braided hair, was pictured with the footballer on a luxury trip in St Tropez with friends last week. The Manchester United star, 27, is said to have connected with the Swedish beauty - who is based in Dubai - when he visited in April. A source told The Sun: 'Marcus went to have rehab for a hamstring injury in Dubai and was introduced to Jaki. 'She then joined him with his mates and another woman in St Tropez for a holiday. It's all very casual but Jaki has told her friends she's grown close to him. The padel player, who showed off her inked shoulder and braided hair, was pictured with the footballer on a luxury trip in St Tropez with friends last week 'She's being very coy about it. But Marcus is playing the field like young men his age. He is just having fun in the Premier League off-season and he's had a rough time with his hamstring so to see him having a laugh is what the doctor ordered.' MailOnline has contacted Marcus and Jaki's representatives for comment. Jaki, who boasts over 20,000 followers on both of her Instagram accounts, often shares sexy selfies and videos of her playing padel. Padel, a cross between tennis and squash, is one of the world's fastest-growing racket sports. While enjoying some downtime in St Tropez last week, Marcus continued to raise the stakes in the style department, sporting an outfit worth an estimated £340,000. He wore a two-piece Louis Vuitton monogram set worth £2,690, and the highly coveted Nike's Ben & Jerry's x Dunk Low SB trainers, as well as a watch on each wrist. On his left wrist Marcus appeared to be wearing a Patek Philippe Aquanaut, a timepiece that is listed at an eye-watering £295,895 on a website that specialises in luxury watches. The Rolex watch on his right arm was estimated to have cost around £40,000. But Jackson shed light on the brief coupling during her return to primetime on Love Island: All Stars at the end of last year, saying that she had been inundated with messages from Man United fans shortly after they were linked. 'No we were out in a group having food,' Jackson told her co-star Olivia Hawkins. 'We weren't dating but we was chatting a little and texting. 'It's difficult because he can't go out and just go on a normal date. All these f*****g United fans were like commenting, thousands of comments on my pictures like, 'cause they loved me. 'When the article came out he scored two goals and he hadn't scored for like ages, so they said "You fixed him!"' 'If it would have been a bit different, because he couldn't really date so he'd be like "I wanna see you, just come to mine and chill with me" but I'm like, '"I don't really wanna".' Grace went onto add that things 'got weird' between her and Marcus given the attention on their romance, saying: 'It just changed the vibe a bit, because everyone knew and there wasn't anything to know.' Marcus was previously involved in a long-term, on-and-off romance with his childhood sweetheart Lucia Loi. The couple split for the last time in the summer of 2023. Rashford's French getaway will likely prove a welcome oasis for the England international amid a potentially tumultuous summer.

Liverpool target Florian Wirtz puts in crunching tackle on Man United star Bruno Fernandes and rows with Bernardo Silva in Germany's defeat by Portugal

Liverpool 's main transfer target of the summer Florian Wirtz was involved in a heated battle with Bruno Fernandes during Germany's Nations League defeat by Portugal. Liverpool are pursuing a club record transfer of attacking midfielder Wirtz, with Bayer Leverkusen holding out for £120million for one of Europe's most sought-after midfielders. The Reds are currently at £109m, but reports suggest a deal is on the verge of being agreed, with personal terms not an issue. On Wednesday, Reds fans got a first sighting of Wirtz since news broke of their pursuit when he lined up for his country in the Nations League semi-final clash. Wirtz put in a solid performance playing just off the left of the central striker and played a tidy give-and-go for his side's goal. He also won the praise of some Liverpool fans online for a crunching, studs-up tackle on Manchester United skipper Fernandes in the first half, while he was also involved in a heated row with Manchester City star Bernardo Silva at times. Florian Wirtz has just done this tackle on Bruno Fernandes 😮‍💨 — Paul🥷 (@l4pablo) June 4, 2025 In the first half, Wirtz challenged Fernandes for a ball, but mis-timed his tackle and stood on his opponent's foot. Fernandes hit the ground in agony and hobbled through the remaining minutes up to half-time. Things then escalated in the second period. During a Germany attack, Wirtz as tripped by Silva on the half-way line and himself stayed on the ground in pain. A few minutes later, off the ball, there was an altercation. The two players - who could have been team-mates had City not pulled out of their pursuit of Wirtz - went almost head-to-head when Silva hit the deck, seemingly claiming he had been stood on. Wirtz tried to lift the 30-year-old up from the floor, but Fernandes raced in and pulled the German away from the scene. A pushing match ensued between a number of players, with Wirtz booked for his involvement. VAR deemed there was no foul play in his altercation with Silva. In the game itself, meanwhile, the Liverpool target scored the opening goal of the game after a relatively quiet first period. While his defensive work stood out, he had one effort at goal in the opening 45 minutes and played a neat pass for Joshua Kimmich to create an opportunity. In the second half, however, he was finally allowed time on the ball and played a neat give-and-go with his captain, Kimmich, to score. He passed and made his way into the box, with the right wing back on the night delivering a clever cross. Nick Woltemade blocked off Ruben Dias, and Wirtz provided the deft flick required to beat Diogo Costa and put his side ahead. Portugal, though, had the last laugh. Some fans mocked Wirtz online when he was beaten by Fernandes on the right flank, and Francisco Conceicao drove in to curl in a fine equaliser. Later, Nuno Mendes, fresh from winning the Champions League in the same stadium just days ago, played a classy one-two with Fernandes and crossed for Cristiano Ronaldo to score the winner. It means Portugal will go onto play either Spain or France in Sunday's Nations League final, while Germany will face the other in a third-place play-off. Wirtz, though, could be Liverpool player by then. An agreement is close, and completion would represent a statement move from the champions, who have already signed Jeremie Frimpong for £29.5m and are close to brining in Milos Kerkez for £45m from Bournemouth.

Man Utd make opening transfer offer of £45m to sign Premier League star

Manchester United have submitted an opening bid to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo. The Red Devils kick-started their summer overhaul by agreeing a £62.5million deal for Matheus Cunha, who will join the club from Wolves subject to visa approval and registration procedures. But Old Trafford bosses are determined to further strengthen Ruben Amorim's misfiring attack on the back of their miserable campaign and Mbeumo finds himself at the top of United's wishlist. It's understood United began talks with Brentford to discuss a move for Mbeumo last week, with the Cameroon international said to be eager to push through a switch to the Theatre of Dreams. United's interest comes on the back of a magnificent season for Mbeumo, 25, who racked up 20 goals and seven assists in 38 appearances. Only Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak and Mohamed Salah outscored him in the Premier League last term. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. According to The Athletic, United's opening offer of £45m – plus £10m in add-ons – is some way short of the fee Brentford are demanding for their top goalscorer. It's understood the Bees are holding out for a sum closer to £60m from United and discussions are ongoing between the two clubs. Mbeumo has just 12 months remaining on his current contract at the Gtech Community Stadium. After the season came to an end, Thomas Frank admitted he was powerless to preventing Mbeumo from leaving given Brentford are a 'selling club'. 'I can definitely understand the interest in him,' the Brentford head coach told reporters. 'There should be interest in him. He is at his best age, he has scored 20 goals. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'I would like to keep him but we are a selling club so if someone comes in with the right price…' It seems Mbeumo's team-mates are also resigned to the prospect of the forward making way this summer, with Christian Norgaard telling Sky Sports: 'I think Bryan is likely to go. 'I don't know about [Yoanne] Wissa yet. Everyone hopes that he might stay. 'Either way, I'm happy for the season and am happy for both of them. They deserve it so much.' Mbeumo has spent six years with with Brentford, finding the back of the net 70 times in his 242 appearances for the west London outfit. Brentford stand to make a significant profit on Mbeumo given they signed the attacker from Troyes for a fee of just £5.8million – a then club-record – back in 2019.
