Cops nab domestic help, beau; recover stolen diamond rings
Nagpur: In a swift operation, Jaripatka police, under zonal DCP Niketan Kadam, recovered two diamond-studded rings worth Rs9 lakh, apprehending a domestic help and her accomplice.
The accused, Maria Suka, was nabbed from a remote area in West Bengal, while her boyfriend Pravin Badgujar was arrested in Nashik, where the stolen jewellery was found.
Maria, employed at the Aggrawal family's residence at Kadbi Chowk, allegedly stole the rings a week ago. She fled to Nashik by train, handing over the valuables to Badgujar for safekeeping. Acting on a tip-off, Jaripatka police, led by senior inspector Arun Kshirsagar, tracked Maria by using her cellphone location.
A team coordinated with West Bengal police to detain Suka, while another unit apprehended Badgujar in Nashik, recovering the stolen rings.
DCP Kadam, a 2019-batch IPS officer, collaborated with his Kharagpur-based batchmate to execute the inter-state operation.
The police's quick response and meticulous tracking ensured the recovery of the high-value jewellery within days. "The arrests and recovery reflect our commitment to swift justice," said Kshirsagar.

Alert villagers help stop minor girl's marriage in Kaushambi
Prayagraj: Marriage of a minor girl in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district was stopped on Thursday. With the help of police and social welfare department officials, members of Child Welfare Committee rushed to Kaushambi's Paschim Sarira village to prevent family members and relatives from forcing the minor girl into wedlock. A senior official said a man from the village made a call to ChildLine number 1098 and reported the marriage of the minor girl, following which, officials from child welfare committee, social welfare department and police rushed to the spot. The joint team also checked the documents, including Aadhaar card of the minor girl and found her to be 16 years of age. They informed the family members about the child marriage law and the girl was handed over to the One Stop Centre where she was to remain till investigations into the case were complete. CWC officials said joint team of CWC, anti-human trafficking unit and child helpline rushed to the spot after alert. Officials added that the girl, as per the complainant, was being married to a Kanpur-based man who was twice her age. They counselled the family on the ill effects of child marriage, besides warning them of legal action. "We convinced the relatives of the girl and the man to call off the marriage as the girl was minor. Officials of the child welfare committee will be conducting a detailed probe into the incident," said an official.

25yo Delhi man swept away while bathing in Ganga at Rishikesh
Haridwar: A 25-year-old man from Delhi was swept away while bathing in the Ganga at the Golf Course ghat in Rishikesh on Thursday afternoon. The deceased, identified as Sachin Kumar, was a resident of Nirman Vihar in Delhi and had arrived in Haridwar earlier in the day with a female companion. Officials said that Sachin ventured into deep waters and was swept away by the strong current while his friend remained on the riverbank. "Our teams launched a search operation immediately, but we've not been able to trace him so far," said State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) area in-charge Kavindra Sajwan. He added that Sachin was employed at a private firm in Delhi and his family has been informed about the incident. Search and rescue operations by the SDRF were on till the filing of this report. The incident adds to a growing list of drowning cases in the region. On Sunday, Guddu Yadav, a supervisor at a Gurgaon-based transport company, drowned in Rishikesh. Just last month, Pradeep Dhaka, a 35-year-old bank employee from Haryana, drowned in the Chilla canal. In another incident, the bodies of two young girls swept away by the Ganga were recovered by SDRF in April. "Till Jan, we recovered around 20 bodies from the river—most of them from the Rishikesh region—while eight persons were rescued by our teams from the Rishikesh and Raiwala areas," said Sajwan.

Woman among 6 held as Amritsar police bust two international drug cartels
Punjab Police claimed to have busted two international narco-trafficking cartels with the arrest of six drug smugglers, including a woman, and recovered 4 kg heroin, director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Thursday. The accused have been identified as Vishal Singh, 23, of Guru Ki Wadali village in Amritsar, Didar Singh alias Kali, 50, of Jathaul village in Amritsar, Sevenbir Singh, 25, of Burj Sarai Amant Khan village in Tarn Taran, Harjit Singh, 38, alias Jita of Baba Deep Singh Colony in Amritsar, Jaj Singh, 19, of Mohalla Chetuan in Amritsar and Jasbir Kaur, 60, of Kapatgarh in Amritsar. Police have also impounded a Toyota Innova car, which they were using to deliver drug consignments. DGP Yadav said preliminary investigations have revealed that one module is operated by Sevenbir, who is in direct contact with Pakistan-based smugglers. The latter received heroin consignments and operated under the guise of livestock trade, he said. The DGP said the accused, Jasbir Kaur, is linked to infamous smuggler Ranjeet alias Cheeta's cartel and has links with both Indian and Pakistani smugglers. Amritsar police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said both modules were busted in an intel-led operation under the supervision of DCP City Jagjit Singh Walia, ADCP-2 Harpal Singh, ACP West Shivdarshan Singh led by Chheharta police station SHO Vinod Sharma. The CP said accused Sevenbir Singh was running the cartel in garb of sale/purchase of goats for the past five years from which he amassed wealth to build a large kothi in his village apart from other property. The accused had been receiving narcotic consignments through drones sent from across the international border. After retrieval he used to hide the contraband in his relatives' home and later distribute it through his associates. Two FIRs – one under Sections 21-C and 27A, and the other under Sections 21-C and 29 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act have been registered at the Chheharta police station.
