A man was arrested after he allegedly called in a fake bomb threat when he missed his Spirit Airlines flight from an airport in Detroit on June 5
Charles Robinson allegedly made the threat after he "was told at the gate that he needed to rebook," the United States Attorney's Office said
"The safety of our guests and team members is our top priority," Spirit Airlines said in a statement to PEOPLEA man was arrested after he allegedly called in a fake bomb threat when he missed his Spirit Airlines flight.
Charles Robinson planned to travel from the Detroit Metropolitan Airport to Los Angeles on Thursday, June 5, 'but missed the flight and was told at the gate that he needed to rebook," according to a news release from the United States Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Michigan.
Robinson, 23, then allegedly proceeded to call Spirit Airlines at approximately 6:25 a.m. to report a threat, stating that he had 'information' about how there would "be someone who's gonna try to blow up the airport" and 'there's gonna be someone that's gonna try to blow up that flight, 2145," officials said.
He allegedly also gave a description of an individual, telling Spirit Airlines, per the attorney's office, "They're going to be carrying a bomb through the TSA" and "They're still threatening to do it, they're still attempted to do it, they said it's not going to be able to be detected. Please don't let that flight board.'
The district attorney's office said the flight was immediately postponed, and passengers and crew were subsequently deplaned.
Bomb sniffing dogs and FBI agents were then 'deployed to sweep the airplane," but no 'bomb or explosives were found," according to the news release.

When Robinson eventually returned to the airport to board another flight, he was detained, the district attorney's office said.
He later appeared in federal court, where he was released on bond. His next court appearance is set for June 27.
'No American wants to hear the words 'bomb' and 'airplane' in the same sentence. Making this kind of threat undermines our collective sense of security and wastes valuable law enforcement resources,' U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon said in a statement.
'Anyone who threatens to bomb an aircraft and endanger public safety will be swiftly investigated and brought to justice,' added Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit Field Office.
The FBI continues to investigate the incident.
Joci Moore, one of the passengers of the flight, recalled the harrowing incident to CBS News. She said the plane had begun to back away from the gate when the captain told them that they were 'being held up.'
'So something at the gate had happened,' she told the outlet. 'You could just kind of feel something was wrong, but we didn't really know what was wrong.'
Moore added that passengers were left on the plane for three hours before they were then asked to exit the plane without their belongings. She said they were then taken back to the terminal and waited an additional two hours before they could board the plane again after it was inspected and cleared by police.
In a statement to PEOPLE, a Spirt Airlines spokesperson said, "Law enforcement was requested to meet Spirit Airlines flight 2145 (DTW-LAX) prior to departure from Detroit (DTW) due to a potential security issue.'
"The aircraft taxied to a remote location, and guests were safely deplaned and transported back to the terminal. The guests were rescreened, and the aircraft was inspected and cleared by law enforcement," they continued.
Added the airline's spokesperson: "The safety of our guests and team members is our top priority, and the flight reboarded and departed to Los Angeles (LAX)."

Embattled NY AG Letitia James touts Trump legal battles — while blasting DOJ probe into alleged real estate fraud

Embattled state Attorney General Letitia James touted her slew of lawsuits targeting the Trump administration to New York bigwigs Tuesday — as she blasted the brewing investigations into her real estate holdings as 'nothing more than retribution.' 'As of today, we have filed 21, 22, 23 lawsuits against this administration,' she boasted after delivering the keynote address at the Association for a Better New York's 'Power Breakfast' in Manhattan. She then rattled off a laundry list of litigation her office has filed, spanning matters including birthright citizenship, funding of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the termination of COVID grants and cuts to AmeriCorps. She also blasted the administration's hardline stance on illegal immigration, calling it 'a blemish of moral fiber on our nation,' which 'runs counter to the poetry on the Statue of Liberty, which welcomes immigrants to our shores seeking a better life.' Approached by The Post regarding a growing number of probes she's facing over alleged instances of mortgage fraud — including a criminal investigation launched by the FBI and US Attorney's Office in Albany earlier this month — James dismissed the allegations. 'I don't know, they keep saying they're investigating me — as you know we filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump and his family. We secured a $454 million judgment against it, which is on appeal. I have no idea when that case will be decided. This investigation into me is nothing more than retribution. It's baseless,' she said. The investigation into her real estate holdings, first reported by the Albany Times Union, began when Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte sent a criminal referral to the Justice Department last month. Pulte alleged James 'falsified records' by claiming in writing that a Norfolk, Virginia, home she purchased with her niece in 2023 would be her 'principal residence' while acting as New York's top cop, and that she misrepresented the number of units in her Brooklyn residence to obtain more favorable loan terms. James admitted to making a clerical error on a 2023 power of attorney form pursuant to the purchase of the Virginia property, but claims any wrongdoing ends there. 'But prior to that I had indicated to the mortgage broker that, in fact, in bold capital letters, that I am not a resident of Virginia and never will be,' she said. 'They just took the power of attorney and they're using that as a basis for enforcement for their investigation, when in reality, the power of attorney was never used to determine my eligibility for a mortgage for my niece for a home in the state of Virginia. My niece, who has two children — I wanted her to have a home,' the AG said. High-powered attorney Abbe David Lowell, one of Hunter Biden's top lawyers in the scandal-scarred former first son's special counsel probe, has been retained by the attorney general. A James spokesman said she will pay for this using a combination of a private legal defense funds as well as state funds, which means New York taxpayers will eventually foot the bill for at least some of his services.

Three Rivers Mall, Kelso: Teen arrested in alleged mass shooting plot at a Washington state mall, officials say

Source: CNN An Oregon teen has been arrested in connection with an alleged mass shooting plot targeting the Three Rivers Mall in Kelso, in southwestern Washington, officials said. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed due to his age, allegedly planned to detonate a chlorine bomb to create chaos and panic before shooting fleeing patrons exiting a movie theater, the FBI Portland Field Office said in a statement on Thursday. The Columbia County, Oregon, Sheriff's Office arrested the suspect on May 22, the FBI said. Kelso is approximately 50 miles north of Portland, Oregon. The suspect currently faces charges of attempted murder in the second degree, attempted assault in the first degree, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, disorderly conduct and two counts of unlawful possession of firearms, according to the Columbia County district attorney and the charging document. 'This plot was as serious as it gets,' FBI Portland Special Agent in Charge Doug Olson said in the statement. 'An alarming amount of indicators of a cogent path to violence were met – at no point in this plan did it seem like the suspect wouldn't follow through with their plans,' the statement said. The suspect will be held in custody until a June 20 hearing, Columbia County District Attorney Joshua Pond told CNN Friday evening. 'The hope is that certain plans can be developed and put in place to ensure his safety and well-being, as well as that of the community,' said Pond. The plot was reported as a tip to the FBI on May 19 and the suspect was identified the following day. According to authorities, the juvenile, a resident of Columbia County, subscribed to a 'nihilistic violent extremist ideology' and shared his plans in online chats. Guy Edward Bartkus, the man accused of bombing a Palm Springs fertility clinic last month, also had nihilistic ideations, FBI officials said at the time. According to FBI research of past violent actors, nihilistic ideation refers to a 'preoccupation with themes of violence, hopelessness, despair, pessimism, hatred, isolation, loneliness, or an 'end-of-the-world' philosophy,' said retired senior FBI profiler Dr. Mary Ellen O'Toole. 'Nihilistic ideation is a very pessimistic view of the world.' The teen is 14 years old and had some changes to his schooling 'in the last few months,' according to Columbia County District Attorney Joshua Pond and the charging document in the case. Officials placed the suspect under court-authorized surveillance before the arrest, citing evidence of both intent and means to carry out the attack. The FBI said the plan included details on the use of an improvised explosive device, a specific route through the mall, and a sequence of actions culminating in the suspect's planned suicide at the mall. In a search of the suspect's home, law enforcement later seized three firearms, multiple boxes of various types of ammunition, four knives, some clothing that the FBI believes 'he was intent to wear for the attack,' and five digital devices, Olson said. Authorities are urging the public to report suspicious behavior and encouraging parents 'to engage with their children and have an open dialogue about their online activity.' See Full Web Article
