Arab Cultural Club hosts "Mosques of Sharjah" Exhibition
A Showcase of Photographic Talent
A total of 26 photographers from the Emirates Photography Society participated in the exhibition, including: Abubakr Mohamed Al-Ahmar, Ahmed Adnan Abu Sardaneh, Iman Salem Al Ali, Aya Mohamed Idris, Pouria Akbar Asadi, Hudhaifa Abdulaziz Al Rayes, Khidr Mohamed Al Aidrous, Raja Turki Shetnawi, Radwan Mohamed Ouda, Samah Nidal Al Khuffash, Atef Mahmoud Shaer, Abdullah Abdulwahid Al Balouki, Imaduddin Alaaddin, Imran Abdulmuti Al Ahmad, Faten Haitham Al Saleh, Laila Ali Al Hammadi, Mohamed Bassam Al Anabtawi, Mohamed Alaaddin, Mohamed Nabil Zarandah, Mahmoud Nour Hussein, Malqa Neamatullah Darabian, Mai Medhat Arnaout, Naama Samir Al Naji, Hiba Muwafiq Rayhan, Hadeen Hussein Al Saadi, and Hind Mohamed Khalid.
These photographers presented 38 works capturing the mosques of Sharjah, highlighting their beauty and grandeur. Their images showcased the diverse artistic and decorative elements that reflect Islamic mosque architecture across different historical periods and global regions. This visual exploration reinforced Sharjah's reputation as the "City of Mosques" and a hub of Islamic architectural excellence.
Three Artistic Approaches to Mosque Photography
The artists focused on three key aspects in their photographic interpretations of mosques:
The External Landscape of Mosques
One approach centred on how mosques harmonise with their surrounding residential and natural environments, enhancing the landscape with their majestic presence. A standout example is a nighttime aerial shot of Al Noor Mosque by artist Samah Nidal Al Khuffash. Captured during the Xposure International Photography Festival, the image showcases the mosque's illuminated structure in perfect harmony with the scenery of Noor Island, the lake, and the city lights. The reflections of these lights on the water, combined with the soft red hues of the twilight sky beyond the buildings, create a serene spiritual ambiance that aligns beautifully with the mosque's domes and minarets.
Architectural Aesthetics of Mosque Exteriors
Another approach focused on capturing the architectural splendor of mosque exteriors. A striking example is a photograph by Khidr Mohamed Al Aidrous of a newly built mosque at the entrance of Al Dhaid city. The mosque's structure resembles a glass sphere, crowned with a spiral minaret. Its harmonious and elegant architectural composition makes it appear as a rare artistic masterpiece, inviting viewers to pause, admire, and step inside to explore its hidden wonders.
Interior Ornamentation and Decorative Elements
The third approach delved into the intricate interior details of mosque architecture. Photographer Pouria Akbar Asadi captured a mesmerising image of a mosque ceiling, presenting an intricate interplay of arches, domes, chandeliers, and stained-glass windows. The elements intertwine like a finely crafted mosaic, reflecting the precision and beauty of mosque architecture. The careful attention to detail in these structures transforms them into breathtaking visual spectacles, designed to elevate the spiritual experience of worshippers.
A Celebration of Artistic Mastery
Commenting on the exhibition, Dr. Omar Abdulaziz stated: "The Arab Cultural Club continues to fulfill the vision set forth by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, as a hub for cultural and artistic creativity. We are honoured to host this remarkable group of professional photographers from the Emirates Photography Society, who have demonstrated extraordinary artistic skill in this exhibition. Their ability to master camera techniques, capture the perfect moment, and employ visual storytelling through framing, symbolism, and composition is truly commendable. Their work not only pays tribute to mosque architecture, particularly during the sacred month of Ramadan, but also achieves an artistic standard worthy of international recognition."

ACC hosts "Al-Adiyat... Out of the Frame" exhibition
Ali Al-Mimar: A life devoted to Arabian horses Ali Al-Mimar, a graduate of the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad (1985) and a student of the late artist Faiq Hassan, has spent nearly four decades capturing the essence of the Arabian horse. His focus on this noble creature stems from its deep-rooted symbolism in Arab and Islamic heritage—representing pride, dignity, strength, and speed. Al-Mimar has held several solo exhibitions across the Arab world and participated in numerous artistic festivals. Paintings reflect realism, symbolism, and emotion The exhibition featured around twenty paintings in various sizes, depicting horses in dynamic and serene settings—grazing, running, or interacting in harmony with their environment. Some works leaned toward abstraction, emphasising traits like strength and freedom, such as a horse's head crowned with a soaring falcon or wild horses captured in moments of unrestrained energy. Critical reception and artistic analysis In a post-exhibition discussion, Dr Omar Abdel Aziz praised Al-Mimar's work for blending classical European techniques with the Arab world's most celebrated cultural symbol—the Arabian horse. He emphasised the animal's embodiment of both aesthetic beauty and emotional depth, portraying a duality of motion and stillness. According to Dr Aziz, the artist's compositions allow for varied interpretations, offering viewers multiple layers of meaning. The artist's perspective on his work Al-Mimar shared his creative philosophy, explaining that his artworks strive to go beyond surface beauty. 'My paintings are parts of human stories set in dramatic or still atmospheres,' he said. 'They carry emotions, myth, and magical realism—all orbiting around humanity as the central theme.' He added that the themes of pride, pain, and the metaphor of 'silent neighing' are ever-present in his works, which aim to express freedom and introspection through color and technique. The exhibition affirmed Ali Al-Mimar's status as one of the most significant contemporary artists specialising in the depiction of Arabian horses.

When's the next long weekend after the Eid Al Adha holidays?
Now that we're looking forward to the four-day break for Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha in next week in June, you might be wondering when are your next holidays coming. Let's take a look at what's left in this year's public holiday calendar. View this post on Instagram A post shared by DIANA SHEKHANY (@dianashex) The holiday period starts with Arafat Day on Thursday, June 5, followed by Eid Al Adha celebrations from Friday, June 6 through Sunday, June 8. Since these dates lined up perfectly with the weekend, it's a nice long break for everyone. These dates were all part of the official 2025 public holiday schedule that the government announced earlier this year. So what's next? There are still three more public holidays to look forward to before the year ends. The next one up is Islamic New Year, which is expected to fall on Thursday, June 26. This one-day holiday marks the beginning of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar. UAE Public Holidays 2025: How to plan your long weekends and extended breaks? Later in the year, we'll have the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) birthday, currently expected to be on Friday, September 5. The exact date will be confirmed closer to the time since it depends on the moon sighting. This is always a special day with various religious and community events happening across the country. Then to wrap up the year, we've got UAE National Day on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 2-3. This two-day break is always full of excitement with fireworks, concerts, and all kinds of patriotic celebrations across the Emirates. Since it falls mid-week, some people might choose to take a couple extra days off to make it a longer break. Eid Al Adha Escape Plan: 7 unusual getaways less than 4 hours from Dubai The government can sometimes move holidays to the start or end of the week to create longer weekends, but this doesn't apply to Eid holidays. If a holiday happens to fall on a weekend, we don't get an extra day to make up for it. Also, local governments can sometimes announce additional holidays for special occasions in their emirate. So there you have it – three more chances to relax and enjoy some time off before we ring in 2026. Whether you're planning a quick getaway, a staycation, or just some quality downtime, these upcoming holidays give you something to look forward to in the second half of the year. – For more on luxury lifestyle, news, fashion and beauty follow Emirates Woman on Facebook and Instagram Images: Instagram & Feature Image: @dianashex
