Safe In The City? South Dallas Residents Voice Concern

Yahoo30-05-2025

South Dallas residents are voicing concerns about an attempted break-in that occurred Thursday night as the city continues to battle safety issues.
A South Dallas resident posted a video on Thursday night on the Ring Neighbors application to highlight a man who allegedly attempted to break into their home. The resident posted the video to demonstrate the dangers to their neighbors.
In the video, a man wearing black clothing and a blue hat is seen walking around the area before approaching the camera. He seemingly fiddles with tools before attempting to unlock the front door.
'Wow what is going on with people everyday someone is thinking they can take, rob, just try to get into peoples home camera or no camera they just don't care anymore,' responded another resident in the comments under the video.
Another resident urged the original poster to call the police, to which the original poster responded that authorities had been informed about the incident.
This incident took place near Methodist Hospital in South Dallas, and there is no indication about whether police have been pursuing the man who allegedly attempted to break into the home.
This attempted burglary highlights ongoing safety issues throughout Dallas, prompting officials to implement a new public safety initiative called 'Safe in the City,' as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
This initiative attempts to improve the safety conditions of Downtown Dallas through increased police deployments, enforcement of anti-camping laws, and coordination with homelessness response agencies.
Initiatives aimed at improving public safety are critical for Dallas and many other cities across the Lone Star State, which was recently ranked among the most dangerous states for nightlife.
A study about nightlife dangers revealed that Texas ranked as the 10th most dangerous state in the country, receiving an overall risk score of 60.19 out of 100, as reported by DX.

Porch Pirates Strike Dallas, Residents Seek Solutions

Dallas residents are calling for help after porch pirates stole items delivered to their front door steps. A Dallas resident posted on the Ring Neighbors application this week to highlight a video of a porch pirate stealing an item delivered to their address. In the video, a man wearing black pants and a black shirt can be seen holding multiple other packages while scooping up another from the porch, prompting the poster to ask their neighbors, 'Is this ever going to STOP in East Dallas?' Many neighbors responded to the post to say that this is a common problem throughout Dallas. One response stated that the 'only option is a PO Box or Amazon lockers' since the Dallas Police Department has not made any progress. 'DPD doesn't seem to be too concerned which is ridiculous. These people aren't being held accountable so they won't stop, just getting worse.' Another resident said it used to happen 'a TON' at their townhome, echoing the need for a drop box to help keep packages safe. 'We got a decent sized package drop box off Amazon (about $130) and love it so much!!! It's not the best looking thing but saves all my packages. There is a place the delivery guy drops the package in at, the package drops into the bottom half of the box, then we have a lock that we can access to retrieve the package. SO WORTH IT.' While stealing packages is a serious crime, the Dallas PD's lack of response has seemingly caused even bigger issues across the metroplex in recent weeks. As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Olivia Rodriguez was recently stabbed to death in a Dallas apartment. The mother of Rodriguez has alleged that the lack of action by the department contributed to her daughter's death, claiming that 'nobody would listen' when they reported her as missing. Previous legislative action in the city has called for increased police officers, though Dallas has done little to implement these requirements. Proposition U, which voters passed in November, required the city to hire at least 4,000 police officers, a significant increase from the roughly 3,100 officers currently employed. However, the city has allegedly not met these requirements, prompting Dallas HERO, a nonpartisan 501c4 organization dedicated to public safety and government accountability, to demand action or face legal consequences.

'Et tu, Elon?' Musk Comes to Bury Trump Not To Praise Him

What began as a disagreement over federal spending erupted into one of the most dramatic political splits in recent memory. But beneath the back-and-forth over budgets and policy, Elon Musk ignited a firestorm this week with a single allegation: that President Donald Trump is named in the unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files. In a post on X Tuesday, the billionaire entrepreneur and tech mogul wrote: The accusation instantly overshadowed Musk's earlier criticisms of Trump's proposed $1.6 trillion 'Big Beautiful Bill,' which Musk called a 'disgusting abomination', as previously reported by DX. While the fiscal argument sparked the rift, the Epstein claim is what sent the feud into another stratosphere. Within hours, Musk followed up with posts accusing Trump of hypocrisy and betrayal, even mocking his former ally by suggesting, 'Was he replaced by a body double!?' — a caption Musk used while reposting Trump's 2012 tweets criticizing debt and government waste. Musk also endorsed a post calling for Trump's impeachment and replacement by Vice President JD Vance, and accused the former president of 'spitting in my face' after claiming he was responsible for Trump's 2024 victory. Musk even shared a post calling for Trump's impeachment and replacement by Vice President JD Vance, signaling that the tech mogul's break with Trump was complete — and intentional. A New Party for the '80% in the Middle'? As the fallout grew, Musk took a step that could have massive implications beyond the Trump feud. He posted a poll on X asking his followers if America needs a new political party — one that represents 'the 80% in the middle.' 'Should we create a new political party that actually represents the people?' Musk asked. The response was overwhelming. Over 3.9 million votes poured in, with more than 81% voting yes at the time of publication. The poll comes amid growing public frustration with both major parties, and Musk — now openly feuding with the Republican standard-bearer he once supported — appears to be seriously floating the idea of disrupting the traditional political landscape. While some dismissed the poll as a provocation, others saw it as a signal that Musk may be gearing up to use his platform, influence, and fortune to reshape American politics. A Feud With Fallout Trump responded via Truth Social, labeling Musk 'crazy' and threatening to cancel all federal contracts with SpaceX and Tesla. 'The easiest way to save billions in the budget? Terminate Elon's contracts,' Trump wrote. Financial markets responded swiftly: Tesla's stock dropped 14%, while Trump Media & Technology Group saw an 8% dip. But while the back-and-forth over budgets, egos, and subsidies has generated headlines, it's Musk's Epstein claim that could have far deeper consequences — both politically and legally. The full Epstein flight logs and case files remain under seal by court order, despite widespread speculation about who may be named within them. Musk's decision to publicly implicate Trump, without presenting corroborating evidence, adds new urgency to growing calls for the full release of the so-called 'Epstein Files'. Many have speculated that Trump might be mentioned in the documents since they had a long-standing relationship. However, Trump has denied ever having been to Epstein's private island where Epstein allegedly sexually-trafficked underage females. For now, one thing is certain: the once-powerful alliance between arguably the two most powerful people on earth is now a very public social media and PR war, the outcome of which is as uncertain with a staggering myriad of potential consequences for both men and the country.

Dallas Murder Suspect Caught After Jeep Found Burned

Dallas Police have arrested the suspect in a murder that took place during Memorial Day weekend. The Dallas Police Department arrested 22-year-old Terrance Lowe on June 3, 'in connection with' the killing of 22-year-old Davion NeRay Clines, according to a press release. Lowe is charged with murder. The Dallas Police Fugitive Unit arrested Lowe, and he is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail. According to jail records, Lowe was booked on June 3 just past 10:30 p.m. His bond is set at zero, and he faces a single murder charge. Dallas police responded to 1922 Berkley Ave on the evening of May 24, as The Dallas Express reported at the time. When they arrived, they found an 'unconscious male victim in the alley, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.' While Dallas Fire-Rescue responded, the victim – who turned out to be Clines – died. His death was ruled a 'homicide.' Clines reportedly met Lowe close to 5 p.m. in a parking lot for a marijuana deal, according to Fox 4. Clines allegedly got into a Jeep Renegade with Lowe, and the vehicle 'sped out of the parking lot with Clines still inside.' Police reportedly thought Clines was kidnapped. Lowe's girlfriend called and reported the Jeep stolen soon after the possible kidnapping, Fox 4 reported. Police found the vehicle near 2400 Budd Street that day after 11:30 p.m., with its license plates removed – and after it had been set on fire. There was allegedly 'visible blood' inside the car where Clines was believed to have gotten in. While Clines and Lowe reportedly met 'just before 5 p.m.,' the Dallas County Medical Examiner listed the victim's time of death as 4:10 p.m., as The Dallas Express previously reported. The Dallas Express asked the Dallas Police for comment, but Lt. Tramese Jones said the press release included 'all the available information.'
