The NBA Finals are officially set to tip off Thursday night, with the Indiana Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder each vying for their first championship in franchise history. Neither the Pacers nor the Thunder—since relocating to Oklahoma City—have captured an NBA title.

Heading into Game 1 in OKC, the Thunder are clear favorites. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Oklahoma City is listed at -650 to win the series.
While the Pacers have played the role of a team of destiny this postseason, the majority of analysts and fans appear to be backing the Thunder—including NBA and Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce.
Appearing on Fox Sports' "Speak" on Monday, Pierce predicted the Thunder would win the Finals and that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would be named Finals MVP, ultimately cementing himself as the greatest player in Oklahoma City franchise history.
'A championship for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will not only make him the greatest Thunder,' Pierce said, 'it ensures a statue at the tender age of 26. If you're gonna leave Oklahoma City after this year, best believe they're gonna put a statue up for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for giving OKC their first NBA championship—which I believe will happen.'
The Thunder ended the regular season with a league-best 68–14 record and have carried that dominance into the NBA Playoffs, most recently defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games to claim the Western Conference title.

Along the way, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has put together one of the most impressive individual seasons in recent memory. He's already won the NBA MVP, the scoring title, and the Western Conference Finals MVP.

Now, he has the chance to tie it all together with the first championship of his career—and the first in Thunder franchise history. A Finals MVP would cap off a truly historic run for the 26-year-old two-way superstar.
'[Shai's] been unstoppable in these playoffs. He's had an unbelievable run,' Pierce added. 'He's gonna sweep all of that. He's gonna wake up after the championship and look at his trophy case and go: this, this, this, and this—all in one year.'

Luis registered 14 20-point games this past season, including a season-high 30 points and 10 rebounds on Jan. 11 in a win over Villanova. He was one of two players in the conference to rank in the top five in both scoring and rebounding. The 22-year-old competed in the draft combine last month, averaging 14 points, six rebounds and four assists in two scrimmage games in Chicago, Illinois. He also registered the 11th-highest max vertical jump among all participants this year (38 inches). Luis has visited 10 teams so far this draft cycle, including the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns. He is embracing the predraft process and looking forward to his remaining workouts. "Everything is just really a blessing," Luis said. "Coming from where I come from, being out of Miami, not a lot of guys come out of there, so it is truly a blessing to be able to get these workouts. ... This is great. I'm blessed to be here."

( More Photo byOn the surface, this deal doesn't look like a great one for the Lakers. But with Reaves' upcoming free agency, Los Angeles could cash in on landing a center for the future. It remains to be seen whether the Lakers are willing to pay Reaves over $30 million to keep him in town. This has led to many around the league speculating about Los Angeles looking to move on from him at some point before he hits the open market. Reaves could take over for the injured Irving in handling the backcourt duties. The guard could give Dallas a legitimate option to run the offense until Irving returns from injury. This could be a win-win for both sides, but the Lakers may want more in return for Reaves. Los Angeles has been fairly adamant about not moving him unless they receive a true star in return. If Dallas were to include some other pieces, then a deal could maybe get done. But for now, Reaves is expected to remain with Los Angeles, entering a contract year.
