Boca extend Group A lead with 2-0 home win over Estudiantes
BUENOS AIRES, April 19 (Reuters) - Boca Juniors' Carlos Palacios and Miguel Merentiel scored second-half goals to secure a 2-0 home win over Estudiantes on Saturday in the Argentine Primera Division Apertura tournament.
Already assured of a last-16 spot, the hosts strengthened their grip on Group A's top spot as they moved to 32 points, five clear of second-placed Huracan. Estudiantes are sixth with 20 points.

Palacios opened the scoring three minutes into the second half, firing a first-time shot from a well-placed pass from Merentiel, who turned scorer himself to double the lead in the 63rd minute with a great long-range effort.
Estudiantes had looked more threatening in the opening stages, but Boca goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin kept them at bay early on, denying Guido Carrillo an opener with a brilliant save.
Edinson Cavani squandered a golden chance to hand Boca a halftime lead after his poorly taken penalty was saved by Estudiantes keeper Mansilla in the 40th minute.

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) DARTS star Fallon Sherrock has revealed that she will take a break from the sport next year. The 30-year-old made history at the World Darts Championship in 2019 by becoming the first woman to beat a man in the competition. 2 Fallon Sherrock has announced her intention to take a break from darts next year Credit: Getty 2 The 30-year-old hopes to qualify for the World Championship this winter before focusing on her health in 2026 Credit: Reuters After defeating Ted Evetts 3-2 in the opening round, she went on to earn a 3-1 win against Mensur Suljovic in the second before eventually losing to Chris Dobey. Her incredible run saw her earn the nickname 'Queen of the Palace'. However, the Coronavirus pandemic stunted her momentum and Sherrock has since struggled to match the form she found over five years ago. In recent months, health issues have also hampered her progress. READ MORE ON DARTS ALL GONE WRONG Darts host apologises as Aspinall covers face in horror during interview The darts star now plans to take an extended break from the sport next year. But she still hopes to qualify for the Grand Slam of Darts and the World Championship this winter. Sherrock told Online Darts: "All I want to do is practice at home for a couple of hours a day, and I can't do that at the moment. "I've had to pull out of some exhibitions recently as well, because I haven't had the stamina. CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS "I really wanted to play in the Women's Week at Modus, but I wasn't able to do the whole week of that. "So I've had to narrow down what I'm playing in now, and that hurts because I love darts. Darts star Fallon Sherrock's boyfriend fumes and leaves stage covering his face after 'hugely frustrating' defeat "Fingers crossed though, that in a couple of years time I'll be alright and I'll be back to winning really well. "My main objective this year is obviously the Worlds. But I want to try and get to the Grand Slam this year, because I feel like if I am going to have a year out next year, I want to make a bang. "I'm going to try and get to everything, then even if I'm not playing to my 100%, at least I can say that I made it." She continued: "I just need to sort myself out. I need to get myself well again and then once I do, the sky is the limit because I know I can do it and I know how many hours I've got to put in, what standard I've got to play. So I can do it, I just need the energy for it first." Sherrock opened up about her health struggles prior to her World Championship first-round defeat to Ryan Meikle in December. She said: "This year I feel like there is hardly any pressure on me at all. There are other players in the field who have got the media attention and stuff, so I can go under the radar. I have been poorly. "I haven't publicised it as such. Only a few people close to me actually know about it, but I am on the mend now and hopefully getting my confidence back." Sherrock is currently dating fellow darts star Cameron Menzies, who is ranked No36 in the world.

England win over Spain would be confidence boost ahead of Euros, says Bronze
BARCELONA, June 2 (Reuters) - England defender Lucy Bronze said a positive result from Tuesday's Nations League game against world champions Spain would set her team up nicely for the defence of their European Championship title. While England are coming off a 6-0 Nations League thrashing of Portugal on Friday at Wembley, Spain defeated Belgium 5-1 to remain top of the group with one game remaining. The winners of the four groups advance to the knockout finals starting in October. "(A win would give us) a lot of confidence, but we already have beaten them this year so we've got a lot of confidence from that," Bronze told reporters on Monday, referring to England's 1-0 Nations League win over the Spaniards in February. "That Spain performance from us in Wembley was brilliant. You can find things to gain confidence from. It's not the be-all and end-all (Tuesday)," she said. "In terms of the Nations League it is. (But) we might not even face Spain in the Euros. We get confidence from ourselves and others." Tuesday's match in Barcelona is England's last before manager Sarina Wiegman announces her European Championship squad on Thursday. "We are pretty close (to finalising the squad)," Wiegman said. "Still you want to go to the game tomorrow and then make the final decisions, but we are pretty close." The one big Euros question mark is the fitness of Chelsea striker Lauren James, who has not played since suffering a hamstring injury in April. "We're trying to get her fit. She's trying to get fit with all the support from Chelsea and us. She is doing really well," Wiegman said. "She needs to tick some boxes and progress. We need her to be fit and healthy and perform at her highest level." Wiegman is also without defender Millie Bright, who withdrew from camp for an extended period saying she was "mentally and physically" at her limit. "Millie is a real big personality and big player for England and Chelsea," Bronze said. "She's missed with what she brings on and off the pitch. We want to make sure she's OK both physically and mentally. She's someone who's quite tough and it's brave that she came out and spoke.." England kick off their European Championship campaign in Switzerland against France on July 5.

Jake Paul reveals ‘hefty' six-man hit-list of opponents for next fight including Anthony Joshua and world champ
JAKE PAUL has included Anthony Joshua in his "hefty" six-man hit-list of opponents after he fights Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The YouTuber-turned-boxer returns on June 28 against former middleweight world champion Chavez in a cruiserweight clash. 8 Jake Paul returns against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Credit: Reuters 8 Anthony Joshua has been called out by Jake Paul Credit: Getty But he is targeting even bigger bouts in the future, including against 41-year-old WBC world champion Badou Jack. Paul told his Most Valuable Promotions: 'After Chavez I think Gervonta Davis, Anthony Joshua, KSI, Tommy Fury, Ryan Garcia, Badou Jack. It's a pretty hefty list." The American revealed he is lining up an exhibition bout against WBA lightweight champion Davis, 30, later this year. Davis, 30, was in talks to face Paul this summer until he controversially drew against Lamont Roach, 29, in March with the two set to rematch in August. READ MORE IN BOXING SAV-VY ANSWER Savannah Marshall risks wrath of old pal Tommy Fury with Jake Paul decision Paul, 28, audaciously called out two-time heavyweight champion Joshua, 35, earlier in the year. And he has claimed the two struck a shock verbal agreement to fight in 2026. He has also voiced lofty ambitions of fighting for a world title and claimed talks are underway with Jack's camp for a championship bout. Garcia, 26, is another big American name who was formerly friends with Paul until the two started to call each other out. 8 CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS And Garcia - recently upset by Rolando Romero - revealed he would be willing to jump from 147lb to 185lb in order to fight Paul. KSI, 31, is another to have rivalled Paul for several years but a disagreement over weight has stalled talks. 'I would've beaten him' - Jake Paul blasts Canelo Alvarez's win over William Scull and but says shock fight WILL happen Paul's next fight is at the 14st 4lb cruiserweight limit of 200lb having beaten Mike Tyson, 58, at heavyweight weighing 227lb (16st 2lb). Meanwhile, KSI's last fight came in defeat to Fury, 26, in October 2023 at 183lb over a STONE lighter than Paul's fighting weight. Paul himself wants to rematch Fury after his split-decision loss in 2023 - which stands as his first and only defeat so far. He said: 'I definitely think that will happen at some point Tommy just has to be realistic about what he's worth and taking the amazing deal that we had. "I can fight any big name opponents all Tommy has is me. But I do wanna make the rematch happen and I definitely know that I'm going to destroy and knock him out. "Based off his last fight, he hasn't got any better whereas I have two and a half years worth of more experience. "And better preparation, better coaches, better diet, better everything. "I'm just a completely different boxer than I was when we got in the ring the first time. He hasn't improved as much. "He's been doing this his whole life so the level that he can get to is not going to change much versus every year that goes by I can increase expediently." 8 Gervonta Davis is set to rematch Lamont Roach Jr Credit: Getty 8 WBC cruiserweight champion Badou Jack has been called out by Jake Paul Credit: Getty 8 Tommy Fury beat Jake Paul in 2023 Credit: EPA 8 Ryan Garcia has called out Jake Paul in the past Credit: Rex
