I tried the new M&S strawberry sandwich fans ‘can't stop thinking about'
M&S has launched a limited-edition dessert sandwich that has sent shoppers into a frenzy — and it's being declared a 'game-changer'.
According to the retailer, the Red Diamond Strawberry & Creme Sandwich features 'the UK's sweetest strawberries' with whipped cream cheese on fluffy sweetened bread.
Inspired by Japanese 'sweet sandos' — fruit-filled sandwiches dished out in Tokyo cafes and London patisseries — it's designed to be this year's go-to summer sweet and costs £2.80.
Filled with M&S's 'plump' and 'juicy' strawberries, it may look and taste like a dessert, but shoppers will find it in the regular savoury sandwich section.
And, despite it being a slightly baffling creation, fans are already obsessed.
'Is it socially acceptable to go to my local store and buy all of them,' Kristine Kolodziejski said under an M&S Facebook post of the treat.
'I can't stop thinking about this sweet sandwich since I saw it advertised. I shall be trying one this weekend,' Rhonda Arnold added.
One TikTok user, @emiiyjade, described the sandwich as 'perfect', saying it's 'the best thing they've ever released.'
But does it live up to the hype? Metro's specialist food writer Courtney Pochin gave it a go to see what all the fuss is about.
'I'm not usually a fan of a pre-packaged sandwich as they're usually sad and soggy, but this one might just be an exception to the rule,' she says.
'It's a super fun twist on the classic summer pairing and makes for a quirky lunch or dessert.
'The bread is soft and just the right amount of sweet, there's a generous amount of creamy filling and the strawberries not only add a wonderful pop of colour, they hold their own. I was very impressed they hadn't turned mushy while sitting in so much cream cheese.
'I did find the berries to be quite sharp, but this does offset some of the sweetness, so not a total negative.'
Courtney adds that her 'only other criticism' is that she 'kept wishing it could be a cake sandwich instead'. Perhaps something for M&S to look into down the line…
'Overall, I think this is a great novelty purchase, but it's not anything groundbreaking (after all, it is just bread, cream cheese and strawberries),' adds Courntey.
'Anyone who claims it's the best thing they've ever eaten is probably just overhyping it for social media likes.' More Trending
So, there you have it.
If you want to find out for yourself, the treat is only on shelves for a limited time, and no doubt they'll be flying into baskets.
For a 'full fruity experience' M&S recommends pairing it with its new Collection Red Diamond Strawberry Lemonade. You can buy a one litre bottle for £3.50.
The supermarket describes it as a 'refreshing new twist on a classic summer favourite'.

Brooklyn Beckham takes another swipe at dad David with surprising family post
Brooklyn Beckham has seemingly taken a further swipe at dad Sir David Beckham by showing there are certain family members he is still close with. The photographer-turned-chef and his famous family have been making headlines for weeks due to an alleged rift. Reports of bad blood in the Beckham camp first resurfaced when Brooklyn, 26, and his wife, Nicola Peltz, 30, failed to show up at Sir David's 50th birthday bash, despite all his other children attending. Since then, the hot sauce brand owner has made it clear where he'd rather be, vowing to 'always choose' Nicola, whom he wed in 2022, with a seemingly very telling Instagram post. As for his parents, while neither Sir David nor wife Victoria has addressed the reported feud, they have made several declarations of love for all their kids, Brooklyn included, online. Alas, these have not been reciprocated, meaning Brooklyn's latest Insta post dedicated to his grandmother might come as a surprise. Proving that not all family ties have been severed, the eldest Beckham boy wished Sir David's mother, Sandra, a happy birthday. Taking to his Story, he wrote alongside a throwback snap: 'Happy birthday nanny xx love you so much'. It's certainly a stark contrast to his actions around his father's milestone, which he let pass without a word publicly. At the time, a source told Metro that Brooklyn was 'disappointed in himself' for doing so. Sandra was showered with love by all Beckham children on her 76th birthday, with Romeo, 22, also writing alongside a post: 'Happy birthday love you lots'. Cruz, 20, shared with his snap: 'Happy birthday @sandra_beckham49 I love you lots.' Proud son Sir David, who was recently awarded a knighthood, uploaded a series of childhood photos to his grid, writing: 'Thank you for always being there for us all'. Former Spice Girl Victoria then hinted at some big party plans in the comments: 'Happy birthday Sandra xx we love u xxxxxx can't wait to celebrate you!!! Xx' Brooklyn's latest bday post isn't actually the only dig to come this week, as fans were also aghast when he wished Nicola's father, billionaire tycoon Nelson Peltz, a happy birthday. Earlier this week, Brooklyn posted a picture of Nelson, him, and his wife, writing: 'Happy birthday, Nelson, we love you.' Lola actress Nicola has long been open about her love for her family, telling Byrdie in February 2024: 'Family is everything to me, and I mean that with my whole heart.' She added: 'I go to Florida any chance I get, and we stay at my parents' house. It honestly makes me so happy to wake up and have my siblings around. It's really hard to get us all in the same place because there are so many of us. When we're all together, it's so fun.' It's believed that Victoria is desperate for Brooklyn to end his feud with his own father, with a source close to her telling Metro that she is 'heartbroken' over how things have changed. 'She's hoping Brooklyn will come around and see things for what they are. They've always been a close-knit family, and seeing how things are now has been devastating for Victoria and David,' added the insider. But while the Wannabe hitmaker and fashion designer is keen for a reconciliation, it might prove difficult given the recent social media activity of other relatives. Last week, Brooklyn's younger brother, Cruz, appeared to make a dig when someone wrote in the comments of a music TikTok he posted: 'Are you going to stick with this job or going to become a race car driver next or something?' Firing back and appearing to take aim at his brother's ever-changing career, he wrote: 'Wrong brother mate'. More Trending And that's not all, as Romeo has also hit out after his ex-girlfriend, Kim Turnbull, publicly denied ever dating Brooklyn, as rumours have suggested. Following her statement, on his Story, Romeo shared a quote from 1953 film Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn's character saying: 'What the world needs is a return to sweetness and decency.' Underneath, he wrote: 'Be nice to people and don't spread unnecessary lies,' followed by a seemingly sarcastic kissing emoji. It was previously claimed that the new relationship between Romeo and Kim, which lasted seven months—was the catalyst for Brooklyn's feud with his family. Got a story? Bake Off legend insists she 'won't be grateful' after TV show axed by BBC
Great British Bake Off icon Nadiya Hussain has spoken out following the response to her BBC show getting cancelled. Earlier this month, the 40-year-old star shared that the broadcaster would not be commissioning another cookery show with her, despite a 10-year working relationship. At the time, the GBBO series 6 winner thanked her supporters for 'being on this journey with [her]' and admitted that being dropped by the Beeb made her reassess 'where [she] wants to be'. Nadiya also vowed to go on working 'with people who believe in the voices of people like [her]', teasing more 'exciting' projects in the pipeline. The BBC, which housed Bake Off when Nadiya took part, later issued a statement, confirming: 'After several wonderful series, we have made the difficult decision not to commission another cookery show with Nadiya Hussain at the moment.' Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. And while the BBC is open to collaborating with her again in the future, Nadiya has now issued some fresh thoughts on how people have reacted to the news. Taking to her Instagram page tonight, the chef began in a lengthy video: 'I have received tons of messages since talking about my situation with the BBC, messages from people telling me to be grateful for the opportunity and be thankful for how far I've come. 'Now, my whole life, as a child in an immigrant household, I used to think I had to be grateful all the time because I watched my family, always grateful. Grateful for being let in, grateful for having work, even if underpaid, grateful for safety, even if it meant silence. 'Always grateful, even when I feel tired, lonely, or disrespected.' 'At first, gratitude felt right because it was instilled in me from a young age; it was all I saw,' she reflected. 'But after a while, it starts to get really heavy. Gratitude became something that I was expected to wear like a uniform. Anytime I voiced frustration or sadness or wanted more, I could feel the invisible pressure. 'Like, how dare you complain? Aren't you lucky just to be here? But here's what I've come to understand.' Nadiya went on to say firmly: 'I am allowed to feel more than just thankful. I am a human being, and I am allowed to feel angry when I'm treated unfairly. I'm allowed to want better for myself and for my family. I'm allowed to speak up. I'm allowed to exist fully. Complex, emotional, hopeful, sometimes critical, just like anyone else. 'So, gratitude has its place, but it shouldn't be a muzzle, like a dog. We didn't come here just to survive; we came here to live, to grow, to contribute, to belong, not as a guest, but as a person who has rights and dreams and dignity, just like everyone else.' The baker ended on a poignant, empowering note: 'So no, I won't always be grateful, and that doesn't make me ungrateful; it makes me human. That's what it does. 'So, I've got here through hard work, through determination, through talent, so no, I won't be grateful. I got here because I'm good at what I do. Just something to think about.' The comments section was soon flooded with messages of support, as the likes of TV presenter Fearne Cotton left a string of red hearts. Singer Annie Lennox wrote: 'One HUNDRED per cent!!!!!Thank you for sharing your lived experience and perspective!!! Gratitude should never become a silencing muzzle – as you SO rightly say!' 'So true. Thanks so much speaking up [sic]', commented Rahul Mandal, who won Bake Off in 2018. 'Exactly this! Well said', praised TV doctor Amir Khan. More Trending Since triumphing in the Bake Off tent 10 years ago, Nadiya has fronted several shows for the BBC. These have included Nadiya Bakes, Nadiya's Fast Flavours, and Nadiya's Simple Spices. While a new series has not been green-lit, bosses have assured fans that Nadiya remains 'a much-valued part of the BBC family'. Meanwhile, in her previous announcement video addressing the axe, Nadiya said that she is now focused on 'being [her] most authentic self' and working with those who 'believe in [her] talent'. Tesco's in-house fashion label, F&F, is renowned for its stylish buys at affordable prices. But Clubcard users can save an extra 25% on items if they purchase them before Sunday, June 29. Lara, a size 14, had only nipped to the supermarket to grab bin bags and coffee when she stumbled across the promotional signs in the F&F aisles. "Why did no one tell me there was 25% off?" she cried. "Obviously that roped me in, and there was so much [new things]. I didn't think there would be, I felt like I was only just there last week. "They had loads of sizes as well. So Monday mornings are a good time to go to Tesco guys." First up, she bagged a £25 black and white polka dot satin midi dress which she described as "just beautiful". She also found a gold sheer metallic dress for £19.50 that she insists is so pretty you'll want to wear it by the pool and at night time too. She gushed: "How beautiful is that? Oh my god. That on holiday, some chunky jewellery. Tesco fans are set to love the latest items in stores for 25 per cent off when you use clubcard "It's got this wee slip dress inside which is perfect so it's not see-through. So you could probably wear it at night as well. Obsessed. The colour is just everything. "Guys it's a win win any time that's on. It's just a bargain." Next, the Scots fashionista picked up a £22.50 cream crochet mini dress that she said would be the perfect day-to-night outfit if you "get a wee slip dress or Skims underneath". Lara styled it with a gold belt to cinch in the waist, and sized up to a large for a comfy look. But it was two summery co-ords that she was most impressed with. She bagged a £25 white maxi skirt with a black floral pattern, sizing down to a size 12, and matching bandeau crop top for £14. 6 Lara managed to bag her summer buys in the 25% off sale Credit: TikTok/@laralouisemercer 6 Her haul should have cost £151 but she saved over £30 Credit: TikTok/@laralouisemercer 6 Other fashion fans are loving Lara's picks Credit: TikTok/@laralouisemercer She hailed the outfit as "the perfect co-ord for your holiday", adding: "How stunning is this? I genuinely love it. "It's not anything I would ever wear, especially the long skirt. But I am obsessed. The print, the fit, the black and white. Oh my god, I want to scream. "How beautiful is that print? Oh my goodness. Love it. Love, love, love. "And it's got this stretchy material at the back." She also tracked down a pretty sage green high-waisted mini skirt and tie-front waistcoat, priced at £22.50 each. "Look at the colours of that. That sage green, all embroidered", she gushed. "This is going to be the new viral co-ord 100 per cent. It's stunning. And it's really good quality, it's lined as well. "This is beautiful, I can 100 per cent guarantee this is going to sell out so quick." Lara's haul should have set her back £151 in total, but she managed to get it for just £113.25, saving £37.75. She said: "When you've got the 25% off it makes a good bit of difference." And fashion fans were loving her gorgeous picks, with her video racking up 49,000 views. One gushed: "Love the waistcoat co-ord set and the swimsuit cover up, you have styled so well. Running to Tesco." "You look great in all of them", someone else added. Meanwhile, a third wrote: "You just keep finding better outfits." More supermarket bargains While you're in store, you may also want to keep an eye out for the £19.50 'chuck on' summer dress that is "gorgeous on" and comes in three colours. Fashion fans are in a frenzy over the "prettiest" £35 Tesco dress too - it's perfect for weddings and comes in on-trend, classy colour.
