How a group dressed as chickens has captured the hearts of Winnipeggers
The group known as the Winnipeg Chickens flocked to the Winnipeg Pride Parade on June 1, 2025. Why did these chickens cross the road? To bring smiles to the faces of people across Winnipeg. What was originally hatched as a plan to promote a local restaurant, a group of Winnipeggers dressed in full chicken costumes, has become a popular sight at events around the city. 'We're the people's chickens,' said Adrian Katchur, the leader of the flock. Kutchur recently bought Candy's Chicken in North Kildonan, a restaurant he calls a 'hidden gem' in the city. He thought having people in inflatable chicken suits would help market the restaurant. 'It just made everyone kind of laugh and smile,' he said. 'And it brought a lot of good feeling and joy to a lot of people, so we decided that we were going to keep this going just to keep it going.' (Guess Who's Cluckin'/Facebook) The chickens, sometimes as many as 20, have been winging it since the end of May, showing up at events from Sea Bears and Goldeyes games to the Pride Winnipeg Parade. Kutchur said many have wanted to take pictures with the group, now called the Winnipeg Chickens, and he enjoys seeing their smiles. The goal now is to brighten people's day every time they are out, he said. 'There's a lot going on with politics and with everyday life after COVID, and it's just really nice to have people stop, smile, have a laugh, and be able to have a story for when they go home or when they're talking to their friends.' winnipeg chickens The Winnipeg Chickens visit a Winnipeg Sea Bears game at Canada Life Centre on May 31, 2025. They will not disrupt events or protest, and despite the premise of many jokes, these chickens will not impede traffic by crossing the road.
