Paul Doyle appears in court over parade crash
Paul Doyle has appeared in court accused of driving his car into a crowd of people after Liverpool FC's trophy parade.
The former Royal Marine, 53, faces seven charges including wounding with intent, causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, attempting to cause GBH with intent and dangerous driving.
A total of 79 people were injured on Water Street in the city centre just before 18:00 BST on Monday.
The father-of-three of Burghill Road in West Derby, Liverpool, was escorted into the dock at Liverpool Magistrates' Court wearing a black suit, grey tie and white shirt.
Mr Doyle appeared visibly emotional as he spoke quietly only to confirm his date of birth and age.
For much of the hearing, he sat in the dock with his head down, listening to proceedings.
District Judge Paul Healey has retired to allow for legal discussions to take place. Mr Doyle has been removed from the dock.
Hundreds of thousands of jubilant Liverpool fans packed the city centre on Bank Holiday Monday and lined the 10-mile (16km) parade route as Liverpool FC celebrated winning their second Premier League crown and 20th top-flight league title.
A pram carrying a baby boy was hit by a car and spun metres down the street after it was hit, but the child was not hurt.
A fundraising campaign set up for those affected by the incident has raised more than £30,000, including a £10,000 donation from ex-player Jamie Carragher's charity foundation.

Leverkusen close to signing Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken in €10m transfer
Bayer Leverkusen are close to signing Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken in a transfer worth around €10million (£8.4m; $11.3m). Leverkusen had seen a €9m offer for the Netherlands international knocked back earlier this week, but are now set to seal an agreement for the 31-year-old. Separately, Brentford are among several Premier League clubs interested in the availability of Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who is valued by the Anfield club above £20m ($26.9m). Advertisement Flekken, who kept 14 clean sheets across 74 Premier League appearances for Brentford, started his career in the academy of Dutch side Roda JC but has spent the bulk of his career in Germany with Freiburg, Duisburg, Greuther Furth and Alemannia Aachen. He joined Brentford from German side Freiburg in May 2023 and succeeded Arsenal-bound David Raya as Thomas Frank's No 1. Last month, Leverkusen appointed former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as their new head coach, succeeding Xabi Alonso following the latter's move to Real Madrid. The Bundesliga side are likely to have a busy summer transfer window after Jeremie Frimpong joined Liverpool, who are also in talks over a €130m move for playmaker Florian Wirtz, while Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah has joined Bayern Munich. Brentford never sell key players until they have lined up a replacement and the best example of this involved Flekken a couple of years ago. Towards the end of the 2022-23 season, David Raya rejected a couple of contract offers and made it clear in multiple interviews that he wanted to leave. Brentford completed the signing of Flekken, who replaced Raya, in May. Raya did not join Arsenal, initially on loan before the deal was made permanent a year later, until August 2023. Brentford broke their club-record to sign Igor Thiago from Club Brugge in February 2024 as a long-term replacement for Ivan Toney. Thiago officially joined that summer but Toney's move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli was not completed until the final day of the window. Flekken will be missed by Brentford but he is the oldest player in their starting XI by a couple of years. If they manage to sign Caoimhin Kelleher, they will be replacing him with someone who is much younger and can continue to develop. Kelleher represents the Republic of Ireland and could be tempted to link up with his international captain Nathan Collins. Advertisement Brentford have a good relationship with Liverpool after they signed Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho from them last year. Jay Harris Goalkeeper is an awkward position for Leverkusen. Lukas Hradecky is the club's current number one and captain, but had a down season compared to the year before. His shot-stopping was not quite at the same level. Xabi Alonso rotated in the role, allowing Matej Kovar to start regularly in the Champions League, but neither would be considered Bundesliga-leading players. At 31, Flekken is not a project, but he is a more dependable shot-stopper and significantly better with the ball at his feet — the latter being of particular importance to incoming head-coach Erik ten Hag. But viewed from any angle, this would be an upgrade and a smart deal. And perhaps it also shows a lesson learned. In the summer of 2024, Leverkusen responded to their league and cup double by deepening their squad, but not really improving their starting eleven. They raised their floor, rather than their ceiling, and in combination with injuries and bad luck, that left them underpowered when defending their domestic titles and while trying to compete in Europe. Of course, the focus is currently on players leaving the BayArena. Jeremie Frimpong has signed for Liverpool, Jonathan Tah has moved to Bayern Munich, and Florian Wirtz is also highly likely to depart. But Leverkusen have already signed highly rated Hertha Berlin midfielder Ibrahim Maza, who will be a player to watch next season, and this is another positive step in their post-Alonso reinvention. Manchester United announce Matheus Cunha transfer agreement
Manchester United have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign Matheus Cunha. The Athletic reported on May 27 Wolves had given Cunha, 26, permission to undergo a medical at United and the Brazil international has now become United's first arrival of the summer window. Advertisement Cunha had a release clause worth £62.5million ($83.7m) at Wolves, and United met the terms of the forward's contract following talks on Tuesday. United had been seeking to make the payment over five years rather than two. Personal terms were already in place, with the 26-year-old keen on the move following two-and-a-half seasons at Wolves. He joined Wolves from RB Leipzig on loan in January 2023 before making the move permanent for £43m that summer. The forward signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal in February which runs until 2029. Cunha previously attracted interest from Arsenal and Nottingham Forest. Analysis by Mark Carey Pushing his temperament to one side for a moment, there is little doubt that Cunha has been Wolves' talisman this season. Having barely played as an out-and-out striker, a return of 15 Premier League goals shows how much he has shouldered the attacking responsibility to help his side stave off relegation. Playing as a left-sided No 10, Cunha's intelligence to drift into pockets of space will often mean that all attacking roads lead through the Brazil international. As well as his goal haul, no Wolves player created more open-play chances or generated a higher expected assists tally. Ideally, you would clone Cunha and play them both — one to craft the chance and the other to finish. Advertisement United have witnessed his cheeky, South American flair first-hand after Cunha's Olimpico goal gave Wolves the lead in their Boxing Day clash this season. With Amorim's side in desperate need of a player to stitch their attack together, Cunha could be the perfect player to link the midfield and forward line — particularly given that he is adept at playing in a 3-4-2-1 system. Capable of playing anywhere across the front line, Cunha offers versatility, creativity, and goalscoring ability. The perfect combination for an elite forward. Analysis by Manchester United correspondent Laurie Whitwell Cunha's familiarity with that position behind the striker in a 3-4-2-1 formation enhances his appeal for United, who want adaptable players but also need new signings to hit the ground running. His record against United inevitably colours perceptions too. He terrorised Erik ten Hag's side when running from midfield on the opening day of the 2023-24 season and, of course, scored direct from a corner past Andre Onana at Molineux this term. Cunha's ball-carrying is an important aspect to consider in an Amorim system. Usually, Amorim has a blend in his No 10s, one a creator, the other tasked with running beyond. Cunha could offer a bit of both, but his ability to go past opponents would add dynamism and, importantly, he can carry a scoring edge. There may be questions about temperament given his bans for reactions against Ipswich Town and Bournemouth, and his work off the ball at Wolves left some staff wanting more. But he has 12 and 15 Premier League goals in consecutive seasons, after getting two in 17 games while on loan for half a campaign, which is proof of his pedigree.

Cunha in Manchester before sealing £62.5m United move
Matheus Cunha is closing in on his £62.5m move to Manchester United. The Brazil forward has been in Manchester over the weekend meeting United officials and tying up the loose ends of his transfer from Wolves. Advertisement Cunha was cleared to have a medical by Wolves last week. The 26-year-old was pictured leaving the Lowry Hotel in Manchester on Sunday morning. He is now on his way to Brazil to begin preparations for Friday's World Cup qualifier with Ecuador (00:00 BST), which will be Carlo Ancelotti's first game in charge. Providing there are no hitches, Cunha will become Ruben Amorim's first signing of the summer. Granting a visa will be a formality. Cunha scored 33 goals in 92 appearances for Wolves after initially joining from Atletico Madrid on loan in January 2023. Wolves signed Cunha permanently at the end of that season for up to 40m euros (£35m).
