Bob Evans's Lent menu is back
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – With the Christian season of Lent beginning tomorrow, Bob Evans has brought back its fish fry menu.
Many Christians abstain from eating meat on Fridays during Lent. However, fish and seafood are often excluded from the religious definition of meat.
The religious definition is fish are cold-blooded, whereas meat is warm-blooded. That's why Friday Fish Fries are very popular among people participating in Lent.
Working alongside the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) Bob Evans's Lent-friendly menu features wild-caught Alaska Cod, shrimp platters and more.
The restaurant said the menu is high-quality, natural, and sustainable. It will be offered daily at all locations and there will be kid's portions available, to include the entire family.
The restaurant chain considers the annual recipes a core staple of its menu. It will offer a Fish Fry Platter for $12.99, a Fish Fry Sandwich for $12.49 and a Fried Shrimp Dinner for $14.19.

Hewitt, TX (FOX 44) – After 70 years of marriage, a Stoney Brook couple is living proof that true love not only lasts but continues to blossom over time. They say diamonds are forever, but Wayne and Zelpha Thomason might just give them a run for their money. Zelpha and Wayne Thomason met in church, where Wayne was the new kid in town. As Zelpha recalls, the spark was immediate. 'They had just moved to Lawton,' Zelpha Thomason said. 'That was the first time they had come to church there. I can still see him getting up out of that pew, and I thought, who's that cute little, short new guy?' 'She was a very good, strong Christian girl,' Wayne Thomason said. 'I was very young in the church and needed someone stronger.' The wedding remains a beautiful memory, despite having little money at the time. 'My mother and I were living on not very much money,' Zelpha explained. 'I said, 'okay, I'll make my dress.' I just loved to sew. I still have my dress. I can't get into it, but I still have it.' From there the Thomason's started to grow their family. 'We just have two daughters, four grandchildren and we have great-grandchildren,' Wayne said. 'Which you never think of or expect to have until you get there.' Seventy years of marriage later, the Thomason's remain true to the vows they made on their wedding day. 'The lord was going to be in that vow, we would not destroy that vow of loving one another til death do you part,' Wayne said. '…I said I will work every day of my life,' Wayne added. Foster homes needed for dogs at Montgomery County Animal Resource Center
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center (ARC) is asking for community members to open their hearts and homes to dogs in need. June is Foster Pet Month. Fostering is a short-term commitment that has a lifelong impact on an animal. The ARC takes care of hundreds of dogs annually – some for medical recovery, shelter breaks. Clark County Dog Shelter full; pleading for adoptions Fostering helps the shelter by reducing overcrowding and giving vital insight into a dog's personality in a home setting. 'When you foster, you're giving an animal their best chance at a forever home,' said Amy Bohardt, Director of the Animal Resource Center. 'Fosters are the bridge between homelessness and hope. We're so grateful for every person who steps up to make a difference.' When a person decides to foster, they are provided with all essential supplies, including food, leashes, creates and medical supplies (if needed). They can chose a dog and timeframe which best fits their life-style. Shamrock shakes raise $28k for Dayton Ronald McDonald House 'I have had the privilege of opening my home to dogs of all different breeds, ages and backgrounds since becoming a foster for ARC,' said foster caregiver Samantha Baudendistel. 'It brings me so much joy to know that I got to play a part in each dog's story. And through each dog, I have also played a part in the story of each family who has adopted them, and all it took was a little bit of patience and a whole lot of love.' Sherman J. Solari Jr.
Sherman J. Solari Jr. passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, the 10 of June 2025. It was a blessing to have his three children caring for him together through his last day in this earthly life. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, the 13 of June, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, the 12 of June, at Johnson Funeral Home from 5 p.n. until 8 p.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. Sherman was born on Dec. 31, 1927 in Lake Charles. He shared his God given talents as a craftsman in his family business, Solari Marble and Granite Works. Not only did he use his artistic skills, he truly listened when people were going through some of the most difficult moments in their lives. There were few things that Sherman enjoyed more than his daily bike rides along the lake. He was a very private person but cherished the relationships that he made through these quiet encounters. He was a faithful parishioner of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. One of the things he missed the most in his last months was not being able to attend Mass. He was immensely grateful to those who faithfully brought the Precious Body of Christ in Holy Communion to his home and those who came to visit with him. Sherman is survived by his three loving children, Mike and wife, Kim, Tom and wife, Elaine, and Suzy. He was blessed with five beautiful grandchildren, Chris (Casey), Ben (Kara), Scott (Courtney), Caroline (Scott), and William. His memory will also live on through his great-grandchildren, Chloe, Stella, Teddy, and Patrick. He is further survived by in-laws, Louise Solari, Phyllis Solari, Glenda (Norman) Manuel, and Delores Stagg. Sherman was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Joyce Bertrand Solari, as well as his parents, Anita Breaux Solari and Sherman J. Solari Sr. and siblings, Audrey, Archie, and Jimmy Solari. Memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Cathedral School at 1536 Ryan Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601. The family would like to express their thanks for the loving care given by Harbor Hospice and Home Instead, especially caregiver, Sylvia Matthis.
