Di Maria to return to boyhood club despite previous threats
Benfica winger Angel di Maria will return to his boyhood club Rosario Central - 10 months after death threats forced him to backtrack on the same move.The 37-year-old began his career at Rosario in 2005 and the Argentine top-flight club announced his return on Thursday."Our history together has more pages to write. Welcome home," the Rosario-based club said alongside a video posted on X.The 2022 World Cup winner spent two seasons with Rosario before moving to Europe with Benfica.He went on to play more than 700 games in Europe for Benfica, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Paris St-Germain and Juventus.Di Maria was close to rejoining Rosario as a free agent last summer but increasing drug-related violence in the region and a number of threats against him and his family ended his plans.Speaking last July, Di Maria said: "There was a threat at my sister's business, a box with a pig's head and a bullet in the forehead, and a note that said that if I returned to [Rosario] Central, the next head was that of my daughter Pia."Those months were horrible. We could only sit there and cry each night over not being able to carry out that dream return."Di Maria has won 30 trophies in Europe - including league titles in three countries and the 2013-14 Champions League with Real - as well as the World Cup and two Copa America trophies with Argentina.He rejoined Benfica for a second spell in 2023 and will leave the club after next month's Club World Cup campaign in the United States.

My children are used to playing with theirs. 'But I simply want to stay at the highest level, playing in the big competitions, because I still feel capable of that. 'I want to continue to be happy and do what I love most. I'm still very passionate about this sport. It's my way of seeing football and I'm happy with my decision.' As rumours of Fernandes' decision circulated earlier in the day, former United and England defender Gary Neville welcomed the reports as Amorim starts the process of reshaping his squad following a dismal season. British man arrested in Chile after '£200k of crystal meth' found
A British man has been arrested in Chile after custom officials claimed to have discovered £200k worth of crystal meth inside his suitcase. Sources in the South American country have confirmed the man to be William Eastment, from Milbourne Port in had been travelling from Mexico to Chile when, according to Chilean authorities, his suitcase was found to contain more than 5kg (11lbs) of a statement published online, customs officials said they had identified irregularities in one piece of luggage, prompting them to track down the owner. Rodrigo Díaz, Metropolitan Customs Regional Director, said: "Once the traveller retrieved the suspicious luggage from the airport baggage carousel, it was quickly identified by our officers and moved to the secondary screening area, where the drugs team confirmed the presence of a hidden object." Inside the suitcase, the online statement added, six plastic bags were found containing 5,100 grams (179 oz) of a white substance, later found to be methamphetamine after Eastment was then handed over to anti-narcotics officers at the airport, and then remanded in custody following an initial court hearing.A spokesperson from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) said: "We are aware of a British man detained in Chile and are in contact with his family and the local authorities."

Spain demonstrated why they are the favourites to win the Women's European Championship in Switzerland as they came from behind to beat England in Barcelona and top their Nations League group. The Spain substitute Claudia Pina proved to be the matchwinner, scoring twice and causing all sorts of problems for the England defence.
