Microsoft starts rolling out Copilot for Gaming on iPhones, Android for testing

Microsoft
has begun an early rollout of Copilot for Gaming on iPhones and Android devices, a report has said, adding that the company is integrating the AI assistant directly into the
Xbox mobile app
. This initial version allows testers to access Copilot as a companion for tasks such as viewing recent
Xbox achievements
, receiving game recommendations based on play history, and requesting tips or guides for completing games.
As per The Verge, future updates are expected to enable users to download and install games on their consoles directly through the Xbox Copilot.

"In this early version of the feature for mobile, you'll be able to access Copilot for Gaming on a second screen, without distracting you from your core gameplay experience," said Taylor O'Malley, principal program manager at Xbox, explaining the feature's design.
He added that the companion is aware of the user's current game and Xbox activity, allowing it to answer game-specific questions, provide web links for more information, and respond to queries based on account details, play history and achievements.
The publication says that Microsoft's broader vision for Copilot for Gaming includes evolving it into an
AI gaming coach
that can guide players directly within
Xbox console
games.
It is to be noted that earlier this year, Microsoft demonstrated a future Copilot interface assisting in Overwatch 2 by identifying player mistakes and recommending hero selections.
Testing for Copilot for Gaming is currently available in the beta version of the Xbox mobile app in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Singapore.

Apple chief Tim Cook snubs Donald Trump, gives another gift to India as tech giant to open...

(File) Amid Donald Trump's recent threat to impose 25% import tariffs on Apple if the tech giant increases its iPhone production in India, the company has announced to open its third retail store in the country. The new Apple Store will be opened in the Phoenix Mall of Asia in Bengaluru, according to a Business Standard report. New Apple Store to open in Bengaluru As per the report, Apple's new retail store, its third in India, is spread across over 8,000 square fee, almost equal to its counterpart in Delhi, but smaller than the company's flagship store in Mumbai, which is spread across a whopping 20,800 square feet. The upcoming Apple Store in Bengaluru will feature all the distinctive and recognizable features associated with the company's retail outlets, including a minimalist design, professional staff dressed in Apple uniforms, and an abundance of glass. Apple has leased the space for 10 years, and will pay 2 percent of its total earnings as rent for the first three, which will increase to 2.5 percent for the remaining lease period, according to the report. The lease period began from November 8, 2024, and rent will start August 8, 2025, which means the store will likely open in next few months, presumably in late July or early August. Apple's India plan Experts believe that the new Apple Store is more than just another retail store, but a part of company's larger plan to strengthen its roots in India as it plans to stay in the country for a long period, despite Donald Trump's tariff threats. Apart from being a giant market for Apple products, India is also emerging as a manufacturing hub for the company, which is evident from its recent assertion that the majority of iPhones that will be sold in the US from June 2025, will carry a 'Made in India' tag, while iPads, MacBooks, Apple Watches and AirPods will be shipped from Vietnam. However, things are expected to become difficult for Apple if it chooses to increase iPhone manufacturing in India, defying Donald Trump's diktat, who has threatened to impose 25% import tariffs on iPhones manufactured outside the United States.

Google lets Android phones run AI models without internet

Different artificial intelligence (AI) models, which can create images, answer questions, or code, can now be run locally on Android smartphones. Last week, Google launched a new app that enables users to run various AI models from the Hugging Face platform directly on their phones, without an internet connection. The app, named Google AI Edge Gallery , is currently available for Android, and an iOS version is expected soon. It searches, downloads, and runs AI models on the phone, using its built-in processor. AI models that run online in the cloud are usually more powerful, but there could be certain drawbacks. For example, users may be uncomfortable sharing personal or sensitive data with remote servers, or they might want to use AI features when they don't have Wi-Fi or cellular data. Google is calling this an 'experimental Alpha release'. The app can be downloaded from GitHub . Google AI Edge Gallery's home screen shows shortcuts to different AI tools like 'Ask Image' and 'AI Chat.' When you tap on one, you'll see a list of models that work for that task, including Google's own Gemma 3n model . Live Events The app also includes a feature called 'Prompt Lab,' where users can try out single-task prompts — like summarising or rewriting text. It includes task templates and settings that let users customise how the models behave. Google notes that how well the app works depends on the phone. Newer, more powerful phones will run the models faster. Also, larger models take longer to finish tasks, like answering questions about images, compared to smaller models. Google has invited feedback on the app from developers. It has been released under the Apache 2.0 license , which means it is available for public use , and even for commercial purposes.

Attention Android, iPhone users! WhatsApp will not work on these phones from tomorrow due to...; check complete list

(File) WhatsApp requirements: In a vital update for users still clinging on to their older iPhones or Android-based smartphones, WhatsApp, Meta's popular messaging app, will stop working in devices running iOS 15 or earlier, or Android 5.0 or earlier, from tomorrow (June 1, 2025). According to Meta, the company is raising the minimum requirements for using WhatsApp because older iOS and Android-based smartphones no longer receive critical security updates from Apple and Google, respectively, which opens up users to a whole range of security threats. Starting June 1, Android devices running on Android 5.0 or earlier, and iOS devices, including iPhones and iPads, running iOS 15 or earlier, will end support for WhatsApp. Check out the complete list of Android and iPhones that won't support WhatsApp from tomorrow: iPhone models that will no longer support WhatsApp iPhone 5s iPhone 6 iPhone 6 Plus iPhone 6s iPhone 6s Plus iPhone SE (1st gen) WhatsApp won't work on these Android phones from June 1 Samsung Galaxy S4 Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Sony Zperia Z1 LG G2 Huawei Ascend P6 Moto G (1st Gen) Motorola Razr HD Moto E 2014 Do you need to change your phone to use WhatsApp? Not necessarily, while all the above mentioned phones are essentially ancient relics in 2025, its important to note that some might still be upgradable to iOS 15.1 or Android 5.1 which would enable WhatsApp to continue to run on these devices, at least until Meta raises the requirements again. However, if your phone is stuck on iOS 15 or Android 5.0, meaning you need to change your device, do not worry about losing your WhatsApp chats and media, and follow these easy steps to backup these to your Google account, which you can later use to restore on your new device. How to create WhatsApp backup? Open WhatsApp and enter settings by clicking the dotted bar on the upper right hand corner. Click 'Chats' Choose 'Backup' Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the backup to your Google account Why Meta withdrew WhatsApp support for older devices? According to Meta, the primary reason behind the the decision is to protect the privacy and security of WhatsApp users. The company noted that Apple and Google have ended support for these older iOS and Android versions, and no longer provides them with security updates, which exposes these older devices to a host of security risks.
