Black Sabbath's hometown gig to be streamed worldwide
LONDON - Ozzy Osbourne's final ever gig as Black Sabbath's frontman will be streamed worldwide after fans snapped up tickets for the hometown show, starring the original line-up, in just 16 minutes, the band said Friday.
Osbourne, who revealed in 2020 that he has Parkinson's disease, will join Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward for the all-day "Back To The Beginning" show in Birmingham, central England, where the heavy metal giants formed in 1968.
The July 5 gig at Aston Villa Football Club's Villa Park stadium will also feature sets by US rockers Metallica, Guns N'Roses, Tool and Slayer among others, as well as a short solo set by Osbourne.
It will be the original line-up's first show together in 20 years and Osbourne's swansong.
"With the concert ... selling out in under 16 minutes, those who missed out on being there in person can immerse themselves in what is set to be the greatest heavy metal show ever," the band said Friday.
Fans were able to buy live-stream tickets for £24.99 (about 30 euros), allowing them to watch the concert live, although with a two-hour delay from the start in the arena, and continue to view it for another 48 hours.
"We had such an overwhelming demand from fans from around the globe, who couldn't get tickets to the show, and they took to social media, pleading with us to broadcast a live-stream of the show," said Osbourne's wife Sharon.
"Being this is such a historic event, we just couldn't let them down."
Black Sabbath have sold over 75 million albums worldwide and are widely recognised as one of the pioneers of heavy metal music.
All profits from the show will go to charities including Cure Parkinson's and Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Osbourne's diagnosis led to him pausing touring. But Sharon told the BBC the Villa Park gig would be his last. "This is his full stop," she was quoted as saying.

Saudi GDP grows 3.4%
QNA Riyadh Saudi Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first quarter of 2025 achieved a 3.4 percent growth compared to the same quarter in 2024. In its report today, the Saudi General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) stated that this growth was driven by a 4.9 percent increase in non-oil activities and a 3.2 percent rise in government activities. Oil activities recorded a 0.5 percent decline. Meanwhile, on a seasonally adjusted basis, real GDP increased by 1.1 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2024. The results showed that non-oil activities were the primary contributors to real GDP growth on an annual basis, adding 2.8 percentage points. Government activities and net product taxes also contributed positively, with 0.5 and 0.2 percentage points, respectively. GASTAT noted that most economic activities achieved positive growth rates on an annual basis. Wholesale and retail trade, restaurants, and hotels recorded the highest growth rates during the first quarter of 2025, with annual growth of 8.4 percent and quarterly growth of 0.7 percent.

Warner Bros. Discovery to split into 2 companies by next year

Discovery will calve off cable operations from its streaming service, creating two independent companies as the number of people 'cutting the cord' brings with it a sustained upheaval in the entertainment industry. HBO, and HBO Max, as well as Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, DC Studios, will become part of the streaming and studios company, Warner Bros. said Monday. Gunnar Wiedenfels, chief financial officer of Warner Bros. Discovery, will be CEO of the cable-focused entity, for now known as Global Networks. 'By operating as two distinct and optimized companies in the future, we are empowering these iconic brands with the sharper focus and strategic flexibility they need to compete most effectively in today's evolving media landscape,' Zaslav said in a statement. Just days ago Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders in a vote that was symbolic as it's nonbinding, rejected the 2024 pay packages of some executives, including Zaslav, who will make more than $51 million. Warner Bros. Discovery said in December that it was implementing a restructuring plan in which Warner Bros. Discovery would become the parent company for two operating divisions, Global Linear Networks and Streaming & Studios. That was seen as a preview of the separation announced Monday. Warner Bros. Discovery was created just three years ago when AT&T spun off WarnerMedia and it was merged with Discovery Communications in a $43 billion deal. The cable industry has been under assault for years from streaming services like Disney, Netflix, Amazon and Warner Bros. own HBO Max. The industry is also being pressured by internet plans offered by mobile phone companies. 'For the sport it's something amazing to have these players after Roger and Rafa - and Novak is still playing, of course - but this kind of rivalry that they have,' said former world number one Ferrero.
