The second season of Major League Cricket (MLC) in 2024 witnessed a significant expansion, growing from 19 matches in the inaugural 2023 edition to 25 matches. Washington Freedom emerged as the dominant force, topping the league stage with five wins from seven games (including one no result) and went on to clinch the title with a commanding 96-run win over San Francisco Unicorns in the final.
The playoffs also featured Texas Super Kings and defending champions MI New York, but it was Washington's all-round strength that shone through the tournament. Their players dominated both the run-scorers and wicket-takers charts, underlining their superiority across departments.

Oscar Piastri says Spanish Grand Prix 2025 win was just what he needed
Formula One championship leader Oscar Piastri said winning Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix was just what he needed after losing out to McLaren teammate Lando Norris over the previous two weekends. 'It's been a great year and this weekend's been exactly the kind of weekend I was looking for,' said the Australian after his fifth win in nine races. 'We executed everything we needed to when it counted and that's all you can ask for. The team gave me a great car once again. It's a lot of fun winning races at the moment.' The victory, the seventh of the 24-year-old's career, stretched Piastri's lead over second-placed Norris to 10 points after the Briton reduced it to three with his triumph in Monaco last Sunday. Norris also finished second at Imola, the race before Monaco won by Red Bull's Max Verstappen, with Piastri third. The Australian led from pole position in Spain, the top slot on the grid secured by the biggest margin of the year so far, after also topping the practice times at the Circuit de Catalunya. 'It's definitely up there,' Piastri said when asked whether it was his strongest yet in Formula One. 'I don't know if it's the best one, but certainly it's been a strong one. You know, it's pretty hard to complain with the results we've had this weekend. Norris, winner of two races this year so far, said he did not feel he had lost anything. 'I think Oscar drove a very good race today and had a good day yesterday. I had the pace to go with him but not enough to try and catch up and put him under threat,' he said. Related Topics Oscar Piastri

Zinta's Team Won Kya? Salman Khan's Tweet Viral As PBKS Book IPL 2025 Final Spot
Last Updated: Shreyas Iyer led Punjab Kings to a five-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians, securing a spot in the IPL 2025 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Salman Khan's tweet from more than a decade back was viral again on social media after Shreyas Iyer led Punjab Kings (PBKS) to a five-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI), securing a spot in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Salman Khan had posted: 'Zinta's team won kya?" Zinta's team won kya ?— Salman Khan (@BeingSalmanKhan) May 28, 2014 Punjab Kings replied to the post on Monday. See you in the final bhai! 😎 — Punjab Kings (@PunjabKingsIPL) June 1, 2025 PBKS BEAT MI Chasing a target of 204 in a rain-delayed IPL 2025 qualifier 2 on Sunday, PBKS, spearheaded by Iyer's unbeaten 87 off 41 balls, reached their goal with six balls remaining in Ahmedabad. Iyer's innings, studded with five fours and eight sixes, culminated in a match-winning six, propelling Punjab to their second IPL final, scheduled for Tuesday at the same venue, the world's largest cricket stadium. 'I love such big occasions," said Player of the Match Iyer during the post-match presentation, which was held well after mid-night. 'I always remind myself and my teammates that the bigger the occasion, the calmer you should be to achieve great results." The final guarantees a new IPL champion, with both RCB and PBKS vying for their first title in the 18 editions. RCB had secured their place in the final by defeating PBKS in the first qualifier last week. Punjab's chase began with the loss of opener Prabhsimran Singh for six. However, Australian Josh Inglis injected momentum, partnering with left-handed opener Priyansh Arya to add 42 runs in 18 balls. Arya was dismissed for 20, while Inglis contributed 38 with three fours and two sixes. Iyer, alongside left-hander Nehal Wadhera (48), decisively shifted the momentum in overs 13 and 14, with Iyer striking England's left-arm pacer Reece Topley for three consecutive sixes. Wadhera's dismissal in the 16th over offered Mumbai a glimmer of hope, but Iyer's composed performance ensured victory. Mumbai skipper Hardik Pandya commended Iyer, saying, 'The way Shreyas batted, took his chances, and played some outstanding shots. They were really calm, put us under pressure, and we couldn't execute our plans as intended." The second qualifier commenced two hours and 15 minutes late due to persistent drizzle following the toss. Punjab elected to field first, and the rain delay did not curtail the number of overs. Mumbai, five-time champions, posted 203-6, despite losing veteran opener Rohit Sharma for eight in the third over. England's Jonny Bairstow, who joined Mumbai before the playoffs and played a crucial role in their win against Gujarat Titans, scored 38 in a 51-run partnership with left-hander Tilak Varma. Bairstow was dismissed by medium-pace bowler Vijaykumar Vyshak attempting a scoop shot. Varma continued the momentum with Suryakumar Yadav, adding 72 runs. Both players scored 44 before falling in quick succession. Number six batsman Naman Dhir's 18-ball 37 boosted the total but ultimately proved insufficient. First Published: June 02, 2025, 08:55 IST

Hardik Pandya Gives Brutally Honest Verdict On Mumbai Indians After IPL 2025 Exit: "Really Needed..."
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya praised Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer's batting while acknowledging his team's inability to execute their bowling strategy effectively. Pandya acknowledged that the decision-making during the crucial overs could have been better, specifically mentioning Jasprit Bumrah's under-utilisation at a key moment. "Especially Shreyas, the way he batted, he took his chances and played really well. It was a par score, but it really needed great execution from the bowling unit. They were really calm and put us under pressure, and we were not able to execute the way we wanted. [Should Bumrah have bowled the 17th over?] In hindsight, it would have been different, but maybe a little too early," Hardik Pandya said in the post-match presentation. Chasing a stiff target of 204, Punjab showed both aggression and composure to overhaul the total with an over to spare, thanks largely to Iyer's clean striking and calculated leadership in the middle. Punjab's chase began on a shaky note as Prabhsimran Singh fell early to Trent Boult for just 6, leaving PBKS at 13/1 in 2.1 overs. Priyansh Arya provided a quick spark with a brisk 20 off 10 balls before being dismissed by Ashwani Kumar, with the score at 55/2 in 5.1 overs. Australian Josh Inglis then took charge alongside Iyer, stroking a confident 38 off 21 deliveries, including five boundaries and two sixes. However, MI skipper Hardik Pandya removed him at a crucial juncture, momentarily halting Punjab's momentum. With pressure building, Nehal Wadhera partnered with Iyer to put together a critical 84-run stand, maintaining the required rate and keeping Punjab in the hunt. Wadhera missed out on a half-century, falling for 48 to Ashwani Kumar, but by then, the platform had been set. Even as wickets fell around him, including a run-out of Shashank Singh for 2, Iyer remained unflustered. Punjab crossed 100 in 10.3 overs and brought up 150 in 15.1, keeping the scoreboard ticking efficiently. The chase was sealed in 19 overs, with Iyer finishing things off in emphatic style, taking his team to the final with a towering six. This win not only marked Punjab Kings' first IPL final appearance since 2014 but also added a new chapter to Iyer's captaincy legacy. Earlier in the first innings, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav played crucial knocks of 44 apiece as Mumbai Indians posted 203/6 in 20 overs. Shreyas Iyer was awarded Player of the Match for his match-winning innings of 87 off 41 balls, which included five fours and eight sixes. Listen to the latest songs, only on
