2026 Volkswagen Taos Review, Pricing, and Specs
Overview
Removing the standard Golf from Volkswagen's lineup still sits with us, but the Taos takes some sting out of the loss. VW's subcompact SUV might not be as fun to drive as the dearly departed hatchback, but it is just as versatile. Stepping into the Taos's airy cabin, you'll find rich materials arranged in a sophisticated and archetypically German way. Trunk space is generous, with plenty of room for cargo-toting. Its 174-hp turbocharged four-cylinder provides adequate thrust to either the front or all four wheels, and it feels planted (if a bit uninspired) while zipping around town. The Taos's real problem is its beefed-up brother, the Volkswagen Tiguan, which is larger and handles better while being only slightly more expensive.
What's New for 2026?
The Taos received a comprehensive overhaul in 2025 that brought updated styling, an interior refresh, and a more powerful engine. With last year's update still fresh, the Taos gets only minor tweaks for 2026, including a slightly faster wireless charging pad and an eight-speaker premium VW audio system on SEL models.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The price of the 2026 Volkswagen Taos is expected to start around $27,000 and go up to $37,000 depending on the trim and options.

We recommend the mid-level SE model because it provides the best value. It comes standard with 18-inch wheels, adaptive headlamps, a power-adjustable driver's seat, front and rear parking sensors, heated front seats, remote start, and wireless charging. We'd add all-wheel drive, largely because it replaces the front-drive model's rear suspension with a more sophisticated independent setup.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Taos is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 174 horsepower and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front or all four wheels. The front-drive and all-wheel-drive Taos have different rear suspensions, with the former using a torsion-beam setup and the latter using a more sophisticated multilink design. We appreciated the engine's low-speed thrust, the eight-speed automatic's unobtrusive operation, and the suspension's composure during our time with one.
0–60-MPH Times
When we tested a 2025 Taos (which is mechanically identical to the 2026 model), it sauntered to 60 mph in 8 seconds. Somewhat surprisingly, that is 0.6 seconds slower than the 2022 model that we tested, which used a less powerful 158-hp engine. Despite the slight decrease in acceleration performance, the Taos still feels spritely enough for a subcompact SUV.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA hasn't released any fuel economy estimates for the 2026 Taos, but last year's front-drive model was EPA-rated at 28 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel-drive model dropped those ratings to 25 mpg city and 33 highway. Without any significant changes, the 2026 Taos should achieve similar results. We'll update this section with fresh EPA estimates and results from our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route testing once both become available. For more information about the Taos's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
A fully digital gauge cluster is fitted to every Taos dashboard, and the standard two-tone seats are covered in cloth. However, leatherette and leather upholstery are both available, too. There's no shortage of popular options, either. The Taos cabin can be equipped with customizable ambient lighting, an eight-way power driver's seat, dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. The Taos boasts 37.9 inches of rear-seat legroom, which is only 0.8 inch less than the two-row Tiguan. The Taos also has 28 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seatbacks and 66 cubes with them folded flat.

Infotainment and Connectivity
Every Taos features a slick-looking infotainment system with a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot. An 8.0-inch touchscreen is standard and features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity with a wired connection; wireless mirroring is available on upper trims. The system can also be equipped with built-in navigation, a six-speaker stereo, SiriusXM satellite radio, and wireless smartphone charging.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The smallest VW crossover comes with a variety of driver-assistance technology, including forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking. For more information about the Taos's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:
Standard blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross-traffic alert
Standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
Standard adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Volkswagen provides an above-average limited warranty and below-average powertrain coverage. However, the company does include complimentary scheduled maintenance that aligns with Toyota.
Limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
Powertrain warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
Complimentary maintenance is covered for two years or 20,000 miles

Ford Wants You to Believe the New F-150 Lobo Is a Street Truck
The latest car news, reviews, and features. I had high hopes for the Ford F-150 Lobo, but it's not enough. My expectations were set by the Maverick Lobo, which not only rocks a distinctive bodykit and lowered suspension but also improved cooling and a trick rear differential that makes it pretty agile on an autocross course. But the full-size F-150 variant feels like little more than an appearance package, and even then, it's not immediately clear that it's supposed to be a street truck with all that wheel gap. At least it has a V8. The F-150 Lobo isn't a trim but rather an add-on available for the STX trim. It does feature lowered suspension, but only in the back, where there's a two-inch drop. That tweak eliminates the regular F-150's rake, and that's likely what reduces the max payload to 1,450 pounds, with tow capacity dropping as well to 7,900 pounds. That may not seem like much of a loss until you realize that the most capable 4×4 F-150 with the 5.0-liter can tow 12,900 pounds. Ford Ford's Coyote engine makes the same power in this application as it does in other F-150s: 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. That's not weak at all, and if you want more power, the aftermarket parts catalog is endless; I can see customers adding a Roush supercharger to these, for sure. Every Lobo comes with a dual exhaust, a 3.73 rear axle with an electronic locking diff, plus an upgraded two-speed automatic 4WD system. The biggest visual differences are the cowl hood and wide-mouth lower grille. Its upper grille design is unique, too, along with the LED signature and taillights. Ford notes the truck's 'ground appearance package' and 22-inch wheels in its press release, but the all-black Lobo featured in these photos seems to hide these details or, at the very least, obscure them. I'm curious to see what it looks like in the other available colors: Atlas Blue Metallic, Carbonized Gray, Oxford White, and Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat. Here's a rendering that shows more of the bodywork's detailing. It isn't ugly by any means; I just don't feel like it's enough to be considered a full-on street truck. Ford Design sketches like this are always more extreme than the actual production models, but these pencil drawings show a caricature I can get behind. Ford Tuners like Roush have already built legit street trucks on the current-gen F-150 platform. Heck, so have Ford dealers. I wouldn't expect the Blue Oval to go all out and give the Lobo 700 hp or anything, but when you already know what could be, it's tough to put this pickup in the same category. The Lobo package adds $4,695 to the F-150 STX, with total pricing clocking in at $59,995 after destination and delivery charges. It'll be available this fall. Got a tip or question for the author? The Legendary Street Truck Is Back. Meet the Ford F-150 Lobo
Following the launch of the Maverick Lobo last year, Ford is supersizing the street truck formula with the new F-150 Lobo. Spanish for "Wolf," the suffix was first used on a 1981 Bronco concept before making its way to a production model in 1997 on the Mexican-market F-150. For 2025, there's now an F-150 Lobo for the United States. Rather than being a separate trim level, Lobo is an optional package on the STX. Ford sells the street truck exclusively in the SuperCrew body style with the 5.0-liter V-8. However, the naturally aspirated engine retains its usual 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. You'll have to look elsewhere in the lineup to get the more potent 450-hp EcoBoost V-6 or the Raptor R's supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 with a massive 720 hp. Photo by: Ford The spiritual successor to the SVT Lightning gets a 4WD system with an electronically controlled, on-demand two-speed transfer case and selectable 2H, 4A, 4H, and 4L modes. It has a maximum payload of 1,450 pounds and can tow up to 7,900 pounds. Essentially, Lobo is a cosmetic package designed to make the F-150 look a bit meaner. There's a 10-piece ground effects kit, combined with plenty of black accents. It stands out thanks to features like a cowl hood, a distinctive front grille, and a dual-layer LED light bar. Ford also tweaks the taillights and adds discreet Lobo badging. The 22-inch gloss black wheels are exclusive to the F-150 Lobo, and the rear has been lowered by two inches for a more aggressive stance. Rounding out the changes are visible dual exhaust tips, which aren't available on the Maverick Lobo. The full-size street truck doesn't always have to be black. Ford also offers Atlas Blue, Rapid Red, Carbonized Gray, and Oxford White as alternative finishes. Photo by: Ford Photo by: Ford The Blue Oval wants $59,995 for the F-150 Lobo, including destination and handling fees. That makes the sporty-looking truck $4,695 more expensive than a regular STX. It's unlikely to be the final sendoff for the fourteenth-generation model. Although it's already about five years old, the current F-150 might stick around for a while. The next-gen pickup has reportedly been pushed back by at least a year , to mid-2028, according to reports from Automotive News and The Detroit Free Press . 22 Source: Ford The Maverick Lobo The Ford Maverick Lobo Is a Silly Little Truck: First Drive Review The Ford Maverick Lobo Is the Street Truck Reborn Share this Story Facebook X LinkedIn Flipboard Reddit WhatsApp E-Mail Got a tip for us?
