Javed Akhtar backs Diljit Dosanjh amid Sardaar Ji 3 row: What can the poor guy do
Screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar has spoken out in support of Diljit Dosanjh, who is currently facing backlash for starring opposite Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in his latest Punjabi film 'Sardaar Ji 3'. The film, which was released globally on June 27 (except in India), has stirred controversy over its cross-border casting, especially in light of recent tensions. In an interview with NDTV's Creators Manch, Akhtar urged for a more sympathetic and rational view of the situation.advertisementWhen questioned regarding the backlash against Diljit, Akhtar responded, "Ab kya karein bechara. The movie was shot earlier. Usko pata toh nahi tha ki aisa hoga. Iss mein Pakistani aadmi ka paisa toh nahi doobega, Hindustani ka paisa doobega. Toh phir kya faayda? (What can the poor guy do now? The movie was shot earlier. He didn't know something like this would happen. It's not a Pakistani's money that will be lost, it's an Indian's. So what's the point?)"
He further added, "Usko pehle pata hota yeh hone wala hain, toh woh thodi na leta Pakistani actor (If he had known this was going to happen, he wouldn't have cast a Pakistani actor in the first place). I think the government and the censor board should look at the situation with a little sympathy. And say that don't do this again, but since you made this film before, then release it. But it should not happen again."advertisementThe controversy began after Diljit dropped the trailer of 'Sardaar Ji 3' on June 22, revealing that Hania Aamir plays the female lead. The trailer led to immediate backlash, with calls for boycotts and criticism over featuring a Pakistani artist amid strained India-Pakistan relations. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) sent a letter to filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, urging him to cut ties with Diljit Dosanjh.Imtiaz is currently working on an untitled project with Diljit, reportedly set for a Baisakhi 2026 release and also starring Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari. The body went further to request the Government of India to blacklist Diljit and the makers of 'Sardaar Ji 3', and even urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to revoke their passports and cancel their Indian citizenship.- EndsTrending Reel

We miss you: Subhash Ghai remembers Irrfan Khan
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 29 (ANI): Filmmaker Subhash Ghai recently took a trip down memory lane as he remembered the late actor Irrfan Khan. Ghai shared an old photo from an award ceremony with the actor, along with an emotional note that quickly caught the attention of fans online. In the photo, Ghai and Irrfan can be seen smiling. Ghai, who worked with Irrfan in the film 'Right Yaa Wrong,' took to his Instagram account to share a post praising him not just as an actor but as someone who deeply understood the art of storytelling. He wrote, "I have always been more in admiration of good and great actors than just cosmetic stars of any time. Good actors enhance storytelling--stars play stars to glitter the film. I was more happy to receive compliments from Irrfan than an award at an award function. So, I remember this picture vividly. We miss you, Irrfan." Irrfan Khan is considered one of the best actors in the Indian film industry. The legendary Indian actor made his debut with the Oscar-nominated Hindi film Salaam Bombay! and went on to star in some of the most critically acclaimed films in India like Life in a... Metro, The Lunchbox, and Hindi Medium. However, the actor's success was not confined to the boundaries of India. He performed exceptionally well in several international projects, which garnered him significant recognition abroad and put him on the map of world cinema. Irrfan died at a Mumbai hospital on April 29, 2020. He was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor and lost his life to it. (ANI)

Viral video: 'I stay serious so that others can ...' - Gautam Gambhir on The Kapil Sharma Show
Gautam Gambhir (Photo by) Gautam Gambhir 's serious demeanour on and off the cricket field has often sparked curiosity among fans. Whether it's a high-stakes match or a big win, Gambhir rarely displays visible emotions or celebratory reactions. So, why does the Team India head coach always appear so intense? That long-standing mystery was recently addressed by the man himself. Appearing on The Kapil Sharma Show alongside Team India stars Abhishek Sharma , Rishabh Pant, and Yuzvendra Chahal, Gambhir finally revealed why he always looks serious. The episode, which airs on July 5, already has fans buzzing thanks to a promotional clip released earlier this week. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! During the promo, Kapil playfully asked Gambhir the million-dollar question: "Why are you always so serious?" To this, Gambhir responded with a smile, saying, 'I stay serious so that others can smile. Someone has to take that role.' Watch: While it seemed like a light-hearted remark, the deeper message was clear—his seriousness stems from focus, commitment, and a drive to bring results. And indeed, under his guidance, India recently clinched the Champions Trophy , marking a major milestone after years of near-misses in ICC tournaments. Poll Do you think Gautam Gambhir's serious demeanour helps motivate the Indian cricket team? Yes, it shows his commitment No, it might create pressure But that's not all. In the same promo, Gambhir also addressed his on-field confrontations. 'People often say I fight on the field. But whom am I fighting for?' he said. 'It's never for myself—it's for my country.' This was a rare insight into his passionate, no-nonsense approach to cricket, where competitiveness often translates to clashes but always for the bigger cause—India's pride. MLC 2025: Unmukt Chand's road to redemption in America Also featured in the episode is Navjot Singh Sidhu , who welcomed Gambhir warmly, despite their contrasting personalities. The teaser hints at plenty of fun, laughter, and candid moments. Gambhir may never be the most expressive figure in Indian cricket, but if this episode reveals anything, it's that his silence speaks volumes—and his seriousness, it turns out, brings joy to millions.
