Pickle your fancy? From Pamela Anderson to Harry Styles, and from Jimmy John's and Zabar's, to Hobbs Pickles and Amo Ago, these celebrities and businesses have a thing for preserved cukes
A woman sheepishly approaches the counter at Hobbs Pickles in Vancouver's Granville Island Public Market.
'I just finished the container of honey mustard pickles and need to buy another one to take home,' she says.
Half an hour earlier the customer had bought two plastic containers of pickles, and while walking through the market – which is full of food stalls, from fresh fruit to savoury pies and chocolates – she had inadvertently finished one and needed to replenish her supply.

'People ask us, 'Am I going to be OK if I eat the whole container?' And we say, 'We're not doctors, but a lot of people do eat the whole container and they'll bring the empty one back to us.''
Hobson adds that one pickle fiend is the English singer-songwriter
Harry Styles , who bought the shop's entire stock of sweet pickles one day last December.
When Hobson launched the business in 2017, all the pickles were snapped up in two days.
'I thought, 'This is something that no one else is doing,' and we had this ability to connect with so many different people. A lot of food groups don't have the same kind of history that pickles do,' he explains.

Indonesia's Prabowo to visit Russia's Putin, skip G7 meeting in Canada
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will visit Vladimir Putin in Russia next week, skipping an in-person gathering of Western leaders at the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada. Advertisement The June 18–20 visit, at the invitation of the Russian president, will include bilateral talks and participation in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Indonesia's foreign ministry said. Before heading to Russia, Prabowo is set to visit Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The decision to visit Putin and skip the G7 summit, despite a personal invitation from new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, has sparked questions over Jakarta's strategic direction under the 73-year-old ex-general. Still, Indonesia has long pursued a 'non-aligned' foreign policy, and the foreign ministry said the trips were planned well before the G7 invitation arrived. 'He recently received a call from the Canadian prime minister and conveyed his support for the G7 proceedings,' Foreign Ministry spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat said in a Thursday briefing. 'The president will not be attending the meeting.' It's still unclear if Prabowo will join the G7 meeting virtually, or he may assign a delegate, the foreign ministry said. In contrast, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the summit in what may be a chance to mend frayed Canadian-Indian ties. Advertisement Indonesia, like Southeast Asia, has sought to diversify its partners amid mounting global tensions over trade and security. Since taking office in October 2024, he's visited President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

Is acceptance by India's Modi to attend G7 summit in Canada a ‘Pyrrhic victory'?
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney 's invitation to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi last week to attend the G7 summit starting on Sunday has sparked debate on whether the last-minute request came amid pressure from other countries in the group of rich nations or a sign of a thaw in ties with India Advertisement Carney extended the invitation to Modi in a phone call between the two leaders on Friday. Modi has accepted the invitation, saying his meeting with Carney will lead to 'renewed vigour' in bilateral ties. 'As vibrant democracies bound by deep people-to-people ties, India and Canada will work together with renewed vigour, guided by mutual respect and shared interests. Look forward to our meeting at the summit,' Modi said in a social media post. Indian media reports had earlier said Modi was likely to miss the G7 meeting as Ottawa's failure to send an invitation to the leader with less than a fortnight left for the event had left little time for New Delhi to arrange his schedule. Advertisement The June 15–17 meeting of leaders from the Group of Seven advanced economies – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States – will be held in Kananaskis, Alberta. Although India is not a G7 member, it has been regularly invited to take part in the group's meetings in recent years.
