Bakery owner violently attacked by burglars in Studio City

Yahoo27-03-2025

A man was violently assaulted when he walked in on three burglars ransacking his bakery in Studio City.
Surveillance video captured the moment the hooded thieves broke into Sweet Lily Bakery on Cahuenga Boulevard early Wednesday at around 4:17 a.m.
The bakery owner, Thibaut Leymarie, was inside the shop alone when the suspects, dressed in all-black, entered the business. One of the suspects was holding a metal pole.
When Leymaire suddenly spotted them in the kitchen, he began screaming, 'Get out of here!'
The three men tackled Leymarie and chased him through the store before violently pushing him out the front door. One of the burglars began beating him with the metal pole.
The suspects, who escaped with a stolen computer, fled the scene in a getaway car — a dark-colored Mercedes-Benz sedan.
Leymarie suffered minor injuries to his eye, arm and back area. He immediately called the police but the suspects were gone by the time they arrived.
'I don't know why [they came here] because there is nothing to steal,' he said.
Leymarie said he was glad no one else was hurt during the ordeal.
However, he is now left with a damaged front door that will be expensive to fix. Some of his employees are also worried the burglars could return.
No suspect description was provided yet as the assault remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.

'High Potential' season 2: Everything we know so far

"High Potential" is officially coming back for season 2, and the next chapter in Morgan Gillory's unconventional crime-solving journey is already in the works. Production on the new season began in May 2025, and ABC has confirmed that the show is set to return this fall as part of its primetime lineup. The police procedural centers on Morgan (played by Kaitlin Olson), a single mother of three whose job cleaning the LAPD offices takes a sharp turn after her remarkable intellect earns her a spot consulting with the Major Crimes division. "High Potential's" mix of procedural drama and comedic quirkiness helped it break through and make it one of ABC's best freshman series in years. It averaged 11.5 million viewers across the network and streaming platforms like Hulu. Now, with season 2 on the horizon, fans can expect the story to pick up right where things left off. Here's everything we know about "High Potential" season 2 so far. "High Potential" season 2 doesn't have a specific release date yet. However, ABC has confirmed that it is set to return in fall 2025, when it will continue to air on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET. According to Entertainment Weekly, the second season could potentially be longer than the first, which consisted of 13 episodes. There have been no additional details provided on that front just yet, though. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. "High Potential" revolves around Kaitlin Olson's Morgan Gillory, so the Emmy-nominated actress will absolutely be back for season 2. Olson brings the same quick wit and physical comedy that made her a standout on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and "Hacks," but this time in the role of a genius single mom turned LAPD consultant. She should be joined once again by the show's ensemble of characters: And while JD Pardo's character, Tom, left Los Angeles to go to nursing school at the end of season 1, it's possible he could return, especially if the writers decide to revisit his romance with Morgan. One newcomer set to play a major role in season 2 is David Giuntoli, who fans may recognize from "Grimm" and "A Million Little Things." He's expected to play a dangerous serial killer who taunts Morgan, setting the stage for a bit of a cat-and-mouse arc. There are a few elements in play for season 2 of "High Potential", though there's no clear-cut summary for what's coming up just yet. Showrunner Rob Harthan has offered some commentary as far as what's in the works for the series, including some hints toward a more complex "big bad" that might surface in the new season. "I love a good serialized villain," he told The Wrap. Season 1 ended with a couple of big cliffhangers, including the reveal that Morgan's ex-husband, Roman, is definitely alive. With that in mind, Harthan doesn't want to leave audiences hanging too long. The plan for season 2 is to get into that mystery right away, while also weaving in an entirely new threat: a serial killer who seems to have taken an interest in Morgan. That includes diving deeper into Morgan's backstory, her complicated co-parenting relationship with Ludo and Roman's potential reappearance. "I think the audience has a real appetite to find out what really happened [between them]," Harthan said in an interview with TVLine. 'What was it like the day they sat down and had a conversation about what wasn't working? How did they decide how they should co-parent? What caused that? So now it's our job to come up with a story." Giving the second season additional episodes to breathe can go a long way toward establishing those storylines and much more, and it's something that even star Katilyn Olson is "excited" about, in addition to the ability to "explore the relationships between characters more." "A first season, you really have to give the main character most of the heavy lifting, because that's the person that you're interested in," she told EW. "I know that people are excited to dig into all of our other wonderful actors and their characters' background, so I think that that'll be really fun to do."

Suspect arrested for allegedly beating 61-year-old transgender woman in Westlake District

Los Angeles police arrested a 30-year-old man accused of assaulting a 61-year-old transgender businesswoman in the Westlake District. Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department arrested Samuel Parros on May 27 and booked him for assault with a deadly weapon. He is one of three people who allegedly attacked Sabrina De La Pena at her shop several times in the past two months. "They punched me. They kicked me. I tried to go outside, they pushed me inside," De La Pena said in an interview with CBS News Los Angeles. "I received more than 50 punches. After that, I started screaming, and when nobody was coming, I said OK and asked God why?" The series of attacks began on April 8, when one of Parros's alleged accomplices tried to flirt with De La Pena, according to police. Detectives said the unnamed male suspect left the store after she denied his advances. He allegedly returned shortly later, sexually assaulted De La Pena and threatened to kill her when he discovered she was a transgender woman, according to LAPD. LAPD officers released four pictures of one of the suspects accused of beating a transgender woman on multiple occasions. KCAL News Detectives said he returned multiple times with more suspects and continued to beat her. In three separate instances, the group of men allegedly beat De La Pena with a skateboard, pepper-sprayed her and threw an unknown liquid on her while another suspect tried to taser her, according to police. De La Pena said she has been attacked six times since April. She has owned two shops in the Westlake District for 40 years and has never had a problem until now. "I need to move from this area because, I can't no more," De La Pena said. The latest beating happened on May 31, according to police. LAPD said De La Pena sustained serious injuries. Parros was already in custody during the alleged beating. Police are searching for the two remaining suspects. Police arrested Suspect 2, Samuel Parros, on May 27 but have not located Suspect 3. Man arrested in string of violent attacks on transgender woman in Westlake; two others at large

One man has been arrested on suspicion of taking part in a string of violent hate crimes against a transgender shopkeeper in Westlake who was sexually assaulted, pepper-sprayed, punched and hit with a skateboard, authorities said. Two other suspects remain at large. Sabrina de la Peña, 61, told The Times that she operated her convenience store across the street from MacArthur Park for nearly three decades without feeling threatened by a customer. That was until April 8, when a man sexually assaulted her after she rejected his advances, and upon discovering she was transgender, he threatened to kill her, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. After the initial assault, police say, he returned to her store and attacked her multiple times alongside two other suspects. 'My life has changed a lot. For almost 30 years, I felt safe,' De la Peña said. 'Now, I am full of so many fears, so much panic. I don't think I will ever be the same again.' Police have released photos of the remaining two suspects and are seeking the public's help in identifying them. After the first transphobic encounter on April 8, De la Peña said, she thought her nightmare was over, but the following night the man and two others attacked her at her shop. Surveillance camera footage of the incident shows the men repeatedly punching her and striking her with a skateboard. On April 16, De la Peña was pepper-sprayed by the same attackers. On April 19, one man threw an unknown liquid on her, while another attempted to tase her. The LAPD initially released surveillance camera photos of the three men on April 28, asking the public's help in identifying them. On May 27, police arrested Parros, but the attacks did not stop. While Parros was in custody, De la Peña was assaulted yet again at her store Saturday. LAPD investigators believe the two remaining suspects are responsible for the most recent attack, which left the shopkeeper with serious injuries. Anyone with information or who may have been a victim of other attacks can call LAPD's Rampart Division detectives at (213) 484-3495 or call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
