Women keep Ohio State's March Madness hopes alive
Ohio State's March Madness hopes rest on the women's basketball team, starting its postseason journey Friday on home court.
Why it matters: The Buckeyes have talent, a good record and motivation to aim for the first national championship in program history.
In March, anyone has a shot.
Catch up quick: The No. 4 seed went 25-6 overall with a 13-5 conference record before losing in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals.
OSU is led by do-everything junior forward Cotie McMahon, an AP All-American Honorable Mention, and point guard Jaloni Cambridge, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
Yes, but: The Buckeyes have struggled against top opponents.
They were handily beaten in back-to-back games against USC and UCLA in February, then suffered their worst loss of the season to UCLA in the conference tournament.
It's tough to make a deep run in March without knocking off some big teams.
Flashback: The program's best March Madness run came in 1993, when OSU lost the national championship by just two points to Texas Tech and the legendary Sheryl Swoopes.
They haven't been to the Final Four since.
What's next: Higher-seeded teams in the women's bracket host the first two rounds.

The Sporting News predicts Alabama's 2025 season, CFP fate in Year 2 under Kalen DeBoer
The 2025 college football season is just over two months away, and The Sporting News is among several national media outlets making its prediction for the Alabama Crimson Tide in Year 2 under coach Kalen DeBoer. Alabama finished 9-4 last season, hardly the worst start for a coach tasked with enormous expectations following the retirement of Nick Saban. But a stunning loss to Vanderbilt after the Crimson Tide's rollercoaster win over Georgia, followed by a pair of ugly losses down the stretch to Oklahoma and a Michigan team that was a shell of its 2023 self, left something of a sour taste to close 2024. DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb will have to break in a new quarterback in Ty Simpson, but Alabama has a lot of talent returning in 2025 -- particularly in the wide receiver room with Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard leading the way, and in the secondary with cornerbacks Zabien Brown and Domani Jackson, and safeties Keon Sabb and Bray Hubbard. The Crimson Tide also have an incoming freshman class that ranks in the top five in recruiting. Earlier this week, the Sporting News made its 12-team playoff predictions for the 2025 season. In the outlet's preseason projections, Alabama makes the College Football Playoff as the No. 7 seed and hosts a first-round playoff game against the Miami Hurricanes at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Per Bender: "Kalen DeBoer gets the Crimson Tide back in the College Football Playoff in his second season, and the Hurricanes are the at-large bid for the ACC. That means Carson Beck delivers as the new starting quarterback, and Mario Cristobal avoids a season-altering upset." A return trip to Tuscaloosa would mark Beck's second game in Bryant-Denny Stadium in as many seasons. As Georgia's starter in 2023 and '24, Beck went 0-2 against Alabama, including last year's 41-34 thriller on Sept. 28 that was clinched by a game-saving interception from the freshman Brown. For its part, Miami looked to be a lock for the ACC Championship Game last year under Heisman Trophy finalist and No. 1 overall NFL draft pick Cam Ward, but the Hurricanes lost its regular season finale in an upset at Syracuse. The Sporting News sees Alabama taking on defending national champion Ohio State in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, 2026. That means a matchup against former 5-star Crimson Tide QB commit Julian Sayin. "The Buckeyes are in the Rose Bowl for the second straight season as the Big Ten champion, and Alabama would be a formidable matchup. Julian Sayin -- who decommitted from Alabama after Nick Saban retired -- would be the center of attention in this matchup assuming he wins the starting job for the Buckeyes." Bender sees Alabama falling to the Buckeyes in Pasadena as part of his overall prediction that Ryan Day's team will return to the national championship game for a second year in a row; this time in a matchup against Texas at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Jan. 20. Alabama football schedule 2025 Alabama opens the 2025 season against Florida State at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Aug. 30. Kickoff was announced earlier this spring for 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ABC. Here's the rest of the 2025 Alabama football schedule with updated start times. All times Central. The post Auburn's perfect reaction after 76ers draft Johni Broome appeared first on ClutchPoints. On Wednesday, Auburn basketball standout Johni Broome was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers. The second-round pick received special recognition from his alma mater on their X page. Advertisement 'Big time! Johni is heading to the City of Brotherly Love!' Auburn posted. Broome finished his career at Auburn (2022-2025) with numerous accomplishments. Among his honors included being named the SEC Player of the Year, a Sporting News Player of the Year, and earning All-American honors. Jake Knapp sets Detroit Golf Club course record with 61 at 2025 Rocket Classic
DETROIT — They say records were made to be broken, but the Rocket Classic course record lasted just one day. For the third time in just two days, Detroit Golf Club has a new low score. Jake Knapp broke the course record set in Thursday's first round by Kevin Roy and Aldrich Potgieter. They each posted a 62 but a day later, Knapp, who shot even-par 72 in Round 1, shot 11-under 61. Knapp, teeing from No. 10, had three birdies on the back nine and an eagle on No. 17, a popular hole for golfers to gain two strokes so far this week. He then recorded six birdies on the front nine and tapped in his par putt on the par-3 No. 9, his final hole, after chipping from the rough to inside a foot. It was a remarkable comeback for a man who was upset by his performance the day before. Knapp was tied for No. 120 after Round 1, but is currently tied for sixth, three shots behind early afternoon clubhouse leaders Chris Kirk and Philip Knowles (14 under par). "Yesterday, I felt like I was doing everything ok, not great," Knapp said after his record round. "Just did everything a little bit better today. Putting was tough yesterday, I didn't make anything — in the afternoon, a little bit bumpier green, just sometimes how it goes — but was able to definitely hit a little bit closer today and I drove a lot better, which was nice." Knapp, 31, attended UCLA and turned pro in 2016. He won the 2024 Mexico Open at Vidanta for his only PGA Tour win. However, he won both the 2019 GolfBC Championship and Canada Life Open as well as the 2022 CRMC Championship in PGA Tour Canada. This is Knapp's second time playing the Rocket Classic; he made the cut last year but finished the tournament tied for 31st at 9-under, nine strokes back of winner Cam Davis.
