4,000 Scandinavian artists: Israel's participation in Eurovision whitewashes Gaza genocide

Saba Yemen17-05-2025

Basel – Saba:
Nearly 4,000 artists from Scandinavian countries have called for Israel's exclusion from the Eurovision Song Contest, considering its participation a "whitewash" of the genocide it is committing in the Gaza Strip.
Nearly 4,000 artists from five Scandinavian countries (Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, and Finland), including artists who have previously participated in the Eurovision contest, signed a statement condemning Israel's participation in the contest.
The statement considered Israel's participation in the contest, which concludes Saturday evening in the Swiss city of Basel, "an attempt to whitewash and divert attention from the genocide it is committing in Gaza."
The statement referred to the mass killings and starvation perpetrated by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza, as well as its 75-year-old occupation and apartheid policies in Palestine.
It added, "We strongly support that Israel should not have the opportunity to polish its public image on the Eurovision Song Contest stage and thus be used to cover up and perpetuate human rights violations."
The statement also condemned the European Broadcasting Union's decision to allow Israel to participate in the contest, describing it as "hypocritical."
It noted that the European Broadcasting Union has not yet made a decision to expel Israel from the contest, and that this contradicts the decision to expel Russia, which was taken quickly due to its war with Ukraine in 2022.
Last week, Nemo, the Swiss representative who won the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden, last year, said he opposes Israel's participation in the 2025 edition of the contest and supports its exclusion from the competition.
More than 70 contestants from various countries previously signed a letter to the European Broadcasting Union calling for Israel's exclusion from the contest due to the genocide in Gaza.
With American and European support, the Israeli enemy has been committing a genocide and imposing a total siege on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. This has resulted in more than 173,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, in addition to more than 14,000 missing persons.

Government of Change & Construction: US Veto Reveals UNSC's Impotence

Sana'a - (Saba): The Government of Change and Construction expressed its anger at the shameful and disgraceful US position, represented by its veto in the UN Security Council against a draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and an end to the brutal Zionist aggression perpetrating genocide against the people of Palestine. In a statement issued today, the government indicated that this veto—which comes amid widespread international condemnation, expressed in the words of representatives of states in the Security Council and statements by governments and human rights and humanitarian organizations—is nothing but an eternal stain on America's brow. The government considered the use of the veto to be clear, indisputable, and unequivocal evidence of the United States' direct and brazen complicity in the crime of the century being perpetrated by the criminal Zionist entity to exterminate more than two million and four hundred thousand Palestinians besieged in Gaza, who are denied access to food, water, and medicine, and left under a barrage of brutal bombardment and systematic starvation. This is a scene that shocks all of humanity and exposes the falsity of the claims of human rights advocates. The government stated that "With this position, America has reaffirmed, beyond any doubt, that it is the official sponsor of Zionist terrorism and a full partner in every drop of blood shed on the pure land of Palestine." The government clarified that the American veto is not merely a political decision, but rather an illegitimate license to kill more children, women, and the elderly in Gaza, and a cover for the genocide perpetrated by the war criminal Netanyahu and his brutal Zionist gang. She pointed out that the US veto once again reveals the UN Security Council's incompetence and the flagrant imbalance of justice, where all international and humanitarian laws and norms are disregarded. The government added, "What kind of council is this whose decisions are paralyzed by the will of a single state that has chosen to side with the executioner against the victim? What kind of international law is this that is violated day and night without accountability or oversight when it comes to the crimes of the Zionist entity!" She continued, addressing the world that claims to be civilized, "Shame on those faces that raise slogans of justice and freedom, only to be trampled underfoot by cheap interests and dubious alliances." The government addresses the Arab and Islamic nation, saying, "What has happened and is happening proves beyond doubt that relying on the so-called international community or UN organizations is an illusion and a mirage. The only desired option, and the path that must be taken, is the option of pride and dignity, the option of resistance and jihad for the sake of God, to confront this American arrogance and savage Zionist criminality." It emphasized that this responsibility falls on the shoulders of every free and honorable Arab and Muslim before God, before their conscience, before the blood of the martyrs, the groans of the wounded, and the patience of those besieged in honorable Gaza. The Government of Change and Construction in Sana'a renewed its call on all Arab and Islamic peoples and their governments to shoulder their religious, moral, and humanitarian responsibilities regarding the genocide being perpetrated against the Palestinian people, in full view of the entire world, amidst the shameful silence and inaction of official Arab and Islamic leaders. The renewed covenant affirmed that Yemen's support for Gaza and its people will continue and expand - in the battle of the promised conquest and the holy jihad - until the aggression on Gaza stops and the siege of its people is lifted, relying on God Almighty, trusting in Him, and confident in His victory. May the position of Yemen - its leadership, government, army, and people - be a shining icon in the history of the nation, strengthening hope, reviving conscience, and illuminating the path. U.S. Veto Blocks UN Security Council Resolution to Stop Genocide in Gaza

New York – SABA: The United Nations Security Council failed to pass a resolution on Wednesday evening calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, after the United States used its veto power to block the measure. The draft resolution, submitted by several member states including Algeria, Slovenia, and Denmark, called for an immediate halt to hostilities in Gaza. The U.S. veto demonstrated Washington's ongoing support for the Israeli occupation, which continues to commit acts of genocide and daily massacres against the Palestinian people in Gaza. Fourteen out of the fifteen Security Council members voted in favor of the resolution. Only the United States voted against, using its veto to prevent its adoption. With continued American and European backing, the Israeli military has, since October 7, 2023, carried out a campaign in Gaza that has resulted in the martyrdom of 54,607 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and the injury of 125,341 others. These figures remain incomplete, as thousands of victims are still trapped under rubble and in streets unreachable by rescue and medical crews. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print more of (International)
