Borough officials give ESU students warning
EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Students at East Stroudsburg University (ESU) are receiving something several weeks before the end of the semester: A warning.
It comes from borough officials who are threatening eviction from off-campus student housing if rules are not followed.
The East Stroudsburg Borough Manager, Kelly Lewis, says strict ordinances will be enforced if ESU students are found in violation.
A couple 28/22 News spoke with lives right in the mix of ESU student housing, and they hope these warnings are taken seriously.
Weekends are known as a time for partying among college students.
At Sigma Pi fraternity off East Stroudsburg University's campus, fraternity president Stephen Tellaz says he makes sure priorities are in check.
'We love having fun here, but safety is going to continue to be our number one priority. It will always continue to be our number one priority,' said ESU Sigman Pi President Stephen Tellaz.

East Stroudsburg Borough is warning its students that it had better stay that way.
The borough is reminding students of its 'three strikes and you're out' policy.
Three disruptive conduct reports within two years require the owner to evict the existing tenants.
'This goes way beyond celebrating and having fun. This is severe public drunkenness, students passing out on streets and roadways, public urination on people's front yards in broad daylight, and property destruction,' Lewis explained.
'If I went out and acted like these kids acted, they would lock me up,' said East Stroudsburg resident Robert Eden.
A few doors down from the Sigma Pi Frat House is Robert and Susan Eden's home.
The couple has lived in the neighborhood for decades.
They say over the years, they have encountered several issues with university students misbehaving and causing disruption in their neighborhood.

'It's constant parties when it's nice. It's constant noise and calling the police a lot of times,' Susan Eden from East Stroudsburg said.
The Edens feel there needs to be stronger enforcement from police, the borough, and the school, and more respect from the students.
'They need to learn to live in a community. I was a college kid, raised three of my own, but when you start impacting the community in a negative way, you're not helping the community. You're not helping yourself,' Robert said.
'Every student has a hometown and they've got parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles, and everyone has the right and quiet enjoyment of their home and their property, and we want to make sure that's true,' Lewis explained.
The borough says it will enforce these provisions with zero tolerance.
So as the cheers and the chuggs continue, Tellaz says he hears the warning loud and clear.
'We're only here for four years. This isn't our forever home. This is a lot of people's forever home. So we gotta be able to respect that,' Tellaz stated.
The eviction requirement continues for new tenants for any subsequent disruptive conduct reports.

Female wrestling coach facing sexual assault charges
KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Luzerne County former assistant wrestling coach is now behind bars facing sexual assault charges. The Wyoming Seminary coach was arraigned Friday afternoon after being accused of inappropriately touching a female wrestler. 25-year-old Nina Pham is accused of inappropriately touching a young female wrestler during a workout. Pham turned herself in to Kingston Police Friday afternoon. Former Wyoming Seminary assistant wrestling coach Nina Pham was taken to prison Friday afternoon. The 25-year-old is charged with institutional sexual assault and indecent assault of a person less than 16 years of age. According to police reports, it happened during a workout when Pham asked a young female wrestler to 'get down.' Cell phone store theft investigation moves forward Police and the criminal complaint indicate she then inappropriately touched the young girl and immediately stopped as two people entered the gym. Wyoming Seminary officials released a statement to 28/22 News: Wyoming Seminary is aware of an allegation of sexual misconduct involving a coach and has cooperated fully with authorities in the investigation. The individual was removed from campus and is no longer employed by Wyoming Seminary. To protect the privacy of those involved, we will not comment further at this time. Wyoming Seminary Director of Communications Jill Snowdon Police reports indicate Pham was hired as an assistant wrestling coach in December 2024. Pham's attorney, Frank Nocito, said during the arraignment that she served in the military and was awarded two Army achievement medals as well as previously qualifying for the wrestling Olympic trials. Wyoming Seminary tells 28/22 News that Pham was removed from campus and is no longer employed by the school. Pham's preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 18. Her bail is set at $25,000. Owner of Billy's C's raw honey in Southwick died in Ohio crash
SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) – A beekeeper from Southwick was struck and killed by a vehicle while operating farm equipment in Ohio on Wednesday. In a police report 22News obtained from the Oregon Police Department in Ohio, at around 1:26 a.m. on Wednesday, officers were called to Brown Road for a report of a vehicle crash. The report says that a Chevy Silverado was traveling eastbound when it struck a fork-style farm vehicle traveling in the same direction from behind. LIST: Ironman triathlon to cause weekend road closures The driver in the farm vehicle was ejected, and then it went off the road and overturned. He was taken to the St. Vincent Hospital for serious injuries, where he later died. He was identified as 35-year-old William (Billy) Crawford of Southwick, Massachusetts. Crawford is the owner of New England Apiaries on Klaus Anderson Road in Southwick and is known for Billy's C's raw honey. Bill graduated from the Hampden County Beekeepers Association Bee School and started his first beehive. In 2007, he started selling honey from a produce farm he worked at in Westfield before forming Pioneer Valley Apiary in what became New England Apiaries. The posted speed on Brown Road is 50 MPH. The report did not indicate any citations were given to the 20-year-old driver of the Silverado at this time. Cell phone store theft investigation moves forward
EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say they have two suspects in the break-in and theft at a cell phone store in Luzerne County. Police say one of the suspects was identified by someone who saw him on a 28/22 news social media post about the break-in. Video of the break-in at the Boost Mobile store in Edwardsville on Thursday morning shows two men inside the store. One man was identified by police as 55-year-old Peter Showalter, and law enforcement say break-ins at cell phone stores are increasing nationwide and in our area. Surveillance video taken inside the Boost Mobile store in the West Side Mall in Edwardsville on Thursday morning. It was 6:30 a.m. Police say two men broke in and calmly walked around the store, stealing merchandise. Police say 55-year-old Peter Showalter is the man not concealing his face. The other suspect, according to police, is believed to be 29-year-old Mailk Smith. Islam Rabb is an area manager for Boost Mobile. 'What did you think when you saw that?' 28/22 News I-Team Reporter Andy Mehalshick asked. 'I was shocked. We really haven't had any issues with break-ins here at this location. It was already 6:30 in the morning, so it wasn't like it was in the middle of the night. Pretty much broad daylight at the time,' Rabb explained. Showalter was arrested by Wilkes-Barre Police for allegedly stealing the Mercedes Benz that was used in the Boost Mobile break-in. Investigators tell the I-Team that someone recognized Showalter on a 28/22 News social media post, as well as on the Edwardsville Facebook page, and called police. 'Nuisance mosquitoes' prompt spraying in several communities They connected Showalter and Malik Smith to the stolen Mercedes. Detectives also say that cell phone thefts, both from stores and individuals, are on the rise in northeastern Pennsylvania. 'There's a large market for it. It is becoming more difficult for them to sell phones in that manner, but there's always somebody that going to be willing to buy it,' Rabb added. Spencer Rappaport is a tech expert and runs a computer store in Edwardsville. 'There's a great market for them. People take them and will replace the IMEI, which is the serial number, basically that identifies them to what carrier that can be used, which service they can put on them,' Rappaport said.
