Harrison Smith: Vikings have to take it to level we haven't hit before
Safety Harrison Smith is back for a 14th season with the Vikings, but he isn't looking for more of the same.
Smith has made All-Pro and Pro Bowl teams while helping Minnesota make the playoffs six times, which has made him a face of the franchise. None of those trips to the playoffs have resulted in Super Bowl appearances and Smith said on Monday that now is the time for the Vikings to push themselves beyond where they've gone in the past.
'There's a foundation that's been set that, you can notice it — things operate pretty smoothly, and the people here are giving high-level effort and winning a lot of ball games,' Smith said, via the team's website. 'But there's another level that we need to get to, and in this business, you have to do it right now. It's not like, 'Oh, you know, year one was good. Let's just keep trying,' It's got to happen right now. I think moving forward, that emphasis of, 'Turn it up a little bit to a level we haven't been before' — that is necessary to get where we want to go.'
Smith and the defense will be a big part of anything the Vikings do this season, but their ultimate ceiling may have more to do with how quarterback J.J. McCarthy fares in his first season running the offense in Minnesota.

And so, no, we were ecstatic about it, and couldn't be more happy that he's our quarterback." Wilson, with his long resume of success and neverending positivity, is a breath of fresh air for this dormant Giant offense. "Russell, he's been a guy that when you look at what he's done from Seattle to Pittsburgh, it was a mesh and fit for our scheme," Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown told the media on Thursday, "We knew we needed to push the ball down the field a lot more. You guys have seen him do that in practice. That's an ability and knack that is unique for Russ." Advertisement The Giants were one of the worst deep passing teams in the NFL last season and Wilson's presence should help change that as we at Giants Wire recently outlined. Wilson the NFL with a 97.3 deep passing grade last season. Even with the addition of superstar wide receiver Malik Nabers, the Giants struggled to throw the ball downfield last season. As a team, they recorded just a 67.4 deep passing grade in 2024, 4th-worst in the NFL. Wilson has certainly looked the part this spring and his receivers are happy. Eagles' AJ Brown Thrilled With Cowboys Acquisition of George Picks
The Philadelphia Eagles always knew that their run for a second straight NFC East title would be far more difficult than last year. The mere fact there hasn't been a repeat winner since the 2004 team, and the Washington Commanders improving their roster over the offseason, only enhanced that belief. Advertisement And now, maybe? There's another team ready to get back to competing with the Eagles for NFC East supremacy. The Dallas Cowboys. While Dallas' 7-10 record was nothing to celebrate last season, they were one of the most injured units in sports last year. It's no wonder why the Dak Prescott-led team faltered midway through the year like they did. During the offseason, they were also able to make some major acquisitions, including the trade for Pittsburgh Steelers wideout George Pickens. While the Georgia star has never been to a Pro Bowl or All-Pro team, he possesses freakish athleticism that will make NFL defenses nervous.
