Outgoing chamber president bids community farewell
ALBANY — Nearly 23 years ago, I made the decision to call Albany home — a choice I couldn't have known then would become one of the best of my life. Serving this incredible community through the Albany Area Chamber for nearly a decade has been an honor beyond words.
As I step down from my role as CEO, I want to express my deepest gratitude to each of you. Thank you for trusting me to lead us, and for being my partner and supporter along the way. Together, we've navigated historic challenges, embraced innovation and achieved more than anyone could have imagined. This chamber is a testament to boldness, resilience, leadership and vision. To the power of diversity. To the amplified power of speaking with a united voice.
My parting charge to you is this: Stay vigilant, stay engaged and continue building the best version of Albany. This responsibility doesn't rest solely with the chamber nor our government partners — it belongs to every citizen of Albany. When we believe in Albany, others follow suit. Stay connected, too, to the Albany Area Chamber and continue connecting, building, influencing and thriving.
As I take on my new role as commissioner of the Georgia Department of Labor, I will carry Albany with me. I will remain its champion, representing our great city in the halls of government and at every table where decisions are made.
We are activators and accelerators. We are champions and advocates. We are impact. We are Only One Albany.
Be well, and onward!

Just 3 Lions remain from pre-Brad Holmes/Dan Campbell era after Ragnow retirement
Just 3 Lions remain from pre-Brad Holmes/Dan Campbell era after Ragnow retirement The Detroit Lions are saying goodbye to one of their longest-tenured players in center Frank Ragnow. Ragnow announced his retirement on Monday, bringing the franchise closer to fully phasing out the previous management regime's players -- for better or worse. Ragnow was one of four remaining players from before Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell took over in Detroit. These players powered through a lot of losses both with former head coach Matt Patricia and in the first couple of seasons under Dan Campbell. They're now the veterans of the franchise with Ragnow on his way out. Jack Fox Jack Fox began his career on the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad before the 2019-20 season, but ended that year on the Lions' practice squad. Fox won the starting job at punter to begin the 2020-21 season. He's since earned First-Team All-Pro, Second-Team All-Pro, and two Pro Bowl appearances for the Lions. Taylor Decker The Lions selected Taylor Decker with the 16th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Decker has been a staple of the offensive line that Holmes came in and built around to become the strength of the team. Decker, like Ragnow, has dealt with a handful of injuries in Detroit but ultimately has managed to stay on the field and anchor the offensive line while the pieces around him were moved around. He was named to his first Pro Bowl in 2024. Tom Kennedy Wide receiver Tom Kennedy has stuck with the Lions despite often moving back and forth between the practice squad and active roster. Kennedy began his career as an undrafted free agent who signed with the Lions in the 2019 offseason. It wasn't until October 2021 that he received his first NFL catch, though he ended up being waived and re-signed with the practice squad about a month later. Kennedy signed a reserve/future contract with the Lions in January 2025. Honorable mentions Graham Glasgow, Anthony Pittman, and Dan Skipper all began their careers with the Lions prior to the arrival of Holmes and Campbell, but spent time with other franchises before returning to play in Detroit later on.

Disney+ Europe Exec on Why Free-to-Air Partners Are 'Incredibly Important for Our Business'
'Audiences: What do they want and from where?' That was the question, and the title, of a panel session at the Media & Telecoms 2025 & Beyond Conference in London on Tuesday, organized by Deloitte and Enders Analysis. Tasked with providing answers were top executives from the Walt Disney Co., YouTube, and U.K. TV giant ITV. The panelists were Alison Lomax, managing director, YouTube U.K. & Ireland, Kevin Lygo, managing director, media & entertainment at ITV, and Karl Holmes, senior vp, direct to consumer & general manager, Disney+ at the Walt Disney Co. Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). 'That's really important. We're also part of that. We operate linear channels in 28 markets across Europe, and they are an important and sustainable part of our business. How do we work with free-to-air? Because free-to-air [broadcasters] aggregate the largest audiences and have the largest production budgets, it's really important we do work with free-to-air. So we license content to free-to-air. We license content from free-to-airs. We have co-production agreements in place with most of the large free-to-air broadcasters across Europe.' He added: 'In Spain and in the Nordics, the paid VOD platforms actually sell Disney+. We're delighted that some of our best-performing original content comes from free-to-airs. We want to do more of this.' And paid streamers also offer Disney+ and its content. Concluded Holmes: 'The free-to-air partners are incredibly important for our business. We're part of the media ecosystem.' He also touted such hit Disney+ content as Shōgun and Rivals. Tuesday's conference also featured top executives from the likes of U.K. public broadcaster BBC, streaming giant Netflix, and Comcast-owned Sky and Sky Studios.
