
Pharmacy fined RM50,000 for misleading price on product
KUALA TERENGGANU: A pharmaceutical company was fined RM50,000 by the Sessions Court here on Wednesday (May 28) for displaying misleading prices for goat milk products on its premises three years ago.
Judge Nazlyza Mohamad Nazri ruled Lau & Tan Pharmacy Sdn Bhd, represented by its managing director Datuk Lau Tiam Kwee, guilty after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in proving its case beyond a reasonable doubt at the end of the defence case.
The company was charged with giving a misleading price on the product Purenat Goat Gold Milk Powder 800 grams. The price on the sales shelf that was displayed to consumers was RM89.90, but the price attached to the milk can was as per the sales receipt, which was RM91.90.
The offence was allegedly committed at the pharmacy premises in the Chabang Tiga Commercial Centre here, at about 9.30 am on May 25, 2022.
The charge was framed under Section 12(1) (a) of the Consumer Protection Act 1999.

Md Khairul Rosli, 32, pleaded guilty before Judge Musli Ab Hamid to a charge under Section 392 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 14 years, and a fine or whipping, upon conviction. He committed the offence by the roadside near Lorong Semariang Batu 12, Kampung Semariang Pinggir here at about 12.04am on May 29, 2025. According to the facts of the case, the victim and a friend had arranged to meet a man, later identified as Md Khairul, for the purpose of selling a used mobile phone. At the scene, the victim was coerced into surrendering not only the phone intended for sale but also his personal mobile phone. The victim believed that the accused had pressed a sharp object against his lower back to threaten him into handing over the items. A police report was subsequently lodged, leading to the arrest of the accused the next day. Investigations revealed that the accused had committed the robbery without the use of a weapon. Although the victim initially believed a sharp object was pressed against his back, it was later determined that the accused had used his finger to simulate the threat. An identification line-up was conducted and the victim positively identified the accused. The victim also identified the stolen phone, which was recovered and accessible using the correct password. He further recognised a blue jacket worn by the accused when executing the crime. Eyewitness testimony corroborated the victim's account and confirmed the accused's identity. The witness also identified the clothing worn by the accused, which matched the items seized during the investigation. Man jailed, whipped for sexual assault on daughter
KOTA KINABALU (June 6): A 51-year-old man was sentenced to nine years behind bars plus two strokes of the cane by a Sessions Court here for committing physical sexual assaults against his daughter. Judge Marlina Ibrahim imposed the sentence on the accused when his case came up for sentencing. He had pleaded guilty to his charge on April 3 but his sentencing was put off pending preparation for the facts of the case by the prosecution. The accused was jailed for seven years plus two strokes of the cane for touching the victim's private parts at a house in Menumbok, Beaufort on December 18, 2024. She was 13 years old at that time. The accused was convicted under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act (SOACA) 2017 which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction. However, due to the relationship with the victim, he received another two years' imprisonment as an additional punishment under Section 16(1) of the SOACA. The section provides for a jail term of up to five years and whipping.
