Crash on Highway 99 in Modesto leaves man dead

MODESTO – A man who was found unresponsive in an overturned vehicle following a crash in Modesto early Sunday morning has died, the California Highway Patrol said.
Around 12:45 a.m., officers responded to southbound Highway 99 south Pelandale Avenue for reports that a vehicle was on its roof.
Officers found a white Toyota Sedan on its roof on the right shoulder with the driver unresponsive in the vehicle.
The Modesto Fire Department was able to remove the man from the vehicle before he was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.
The CHP believes the 39-year-old man was driving south on Highway 99 at a high rate of speed and crashed into the rear end of a vehicle between two lanes.
Officers said the sedan continued south and traveled off the west side of the road, where it overturned.
It's not known if DUI was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
The driver was wearing his seatbelt, officers said.

(KRON) — A man is dead and a dog was seriously injured from a two-car crash that happened on a Highway 101 offramp in San Francisco Saturday. The crash occurred around 11:44 a.m., when a white Dodge Charger exited the southbound side of Highway 101 near Paul Avenue at a high rate of speed, the California Highway Patrol told KRON4. The Charger hit a concrete wall and continued into a car stopped at the offramp stop sign. Foster City crews responded to brush fire, roads closed Firefighters with the San Francisco Fire Department responded to the scene and extracted the man from the Charger. Firefighters performed CPR but were unable to revive the man and he was pronounced dead at 11:55 a.m. The injured dog was given to San Francisco Animal Control. (KRON) – A head-on car crash killed one man and left three people hospitalized, according to the California Highway Patrol in Napa. Around 4:38 p.m. on Friday, CHP was alerted to a two-vehicle collision involving a 2024 Toyota Venza and a 2011 Lexus RX450 on California Highway 121, north of CA Highway 37 near the Sonoma Raceway. According to CHP, multiple witnesses observed a solo male driver of the Toyota traveling southbound on Highway 121, and a female driver of the Lexus with two minor passengers driving northbound. The Toyota crossed over the double-yellow lines and crashed into the Lexus in a head-on collision, CHP said. The driver of the Toyota was a man who was pronounced dead at a Napa hospital at 5:36 p.m. on Friday. The driver of the Lexus was a mother with her two children, a 15-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter. According to CHP, only one child was wearing a seatbelt. The mother was transported to a Napa hospital for major injuries. The children were transported by helicopters to the Oakland Children's Hospital for major injuries. Teen girl riding e-bike revived, hospitalized after hit by vehicle near South Lake Tahoe, CHP says

EL DORADO COUNTY – A 13-year-old girl riding an e-bike was revived and hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after she was hit by a vehicle near South Lake Tahoe Saturday morning, the California Highway Patrol said. Just after 7:45 a.m., officers said the teen girl was riding her e-bike in the area of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Sawmill Road. When she was crossing Lake Tahoe Boulevard, the driver of an Acura MDX was heading east on Lake Tahoe Boulevard and crashed into the girl. The girl was propelled into the air and hit a snow paddle maker, the CHP said. Firefighters were able to revive the girl, officers said. She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The CHP is seeking to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash and was not interviewed. The driver of the Acura, a 53-year-old woman from South Lake Tahoe, was not injured. The CHP did not say any arrests were made. The crash remains under investigation.
