Helpmekaar and Affies U16s dominate final day at St John's Easter Rugby Festival
Helpmekaar Kollege and Afrikaans Hoër Seunskool (Affies) delivered standout performances in the U16 games on the final day of the St John's Easter Rugby Festival, securing impressive wins against Pretoria Boys High and Hoërskool Noordheuwel (Nories) respectively.
Helpmekaar claimed a hard-fought 23–11 victory over Pretoria Boys High in a physical and closely contested match.
The first half was a tight affair, with both teams exchanging penalties and battling for territory.

Helpmekaar led 11–6 at the break and held their nerve in the second half, responding to a Pretoria try with sustained pressure and a decisive late try that sealed the win.
Their defensive organisation and discipline under pressure proved the difference in a gritty encounter.
Affies, by contrast, delivered a dominant display against Nories, running in six tries by halftime to lead 40–0 after a string of clinical finishes and powerful forward play.
Despite an early second-half injury to a Nories lock, Affies continued their assault, adding another try eight minutes into the second half to stretch their lead to 50–0.

Their control at the breakdown and pace in attack left Nories with few answers in a one-sided affair.
Both Helpmekaar and Affies showcased their strength and depth, finishing the festival on a high with commanding performances.

Fourways gymnast Scarlett Belle Eilertsen (10) recently competed in the Women's Artistic Gymnastics competition held at Matsport Centurion on May 24–25, earning a gold medal in her level 1 division. Less than six months ago, Scarlett was recognised as the Most Improved Gymnast at her end-of-year awards with Junxion Gymnastics. Scarlett credits her coaches, Brooklyn Miles, known as Coach Godzilla, and Nikki Stubbs, for their unwavering support and encouragement. 'Their continual reinforcement and belief in me make a big difference. They help me grow and love gymnastics even more.' Her role models include her coaches, whom she admires greatly. When asked about her future ambitions, she said: 'Maybe I'll get those dreams when I'm older, but I sometimes dream of doing three backflips at age 10.' Tyrell Stewart shows his strength
At just 17, Tyrell Stewart is showing his strength in the South African weightlifting scene. He managed a combined total lift of 158kg, making up a solid 70kg and an 88kg clean and jerk, all while weighing in at 62kg. Describing the feeling as surreal, Tyrell moved up a weight class since last year, and after just one meet, he ranked third nationally in his division. Tyrell said that he picked up his first barbell at the age of 11, with the help of his coach Steve Kafang, in crafting his game plans. 'The week before, we dialled it down, that's what we call a 'deload', it helps me recover, and stay sharp. Honestly, though, it is the mental game that is tough; you cannot let it go to your head.' He said that weightlifting was not just about winning, but about what it taught him along the way. 'This sport has taught me that you get out what you put in. There's always going to be someone stronger.' Tyrell added that there was always room to improve to push oneself when lifting, whether at training or in a competition, and that was when he felt like himself. With the South African Youth and Junior Championships around the corner in July, he is setting his sights on an even bigger podium, expressing that he has 'real shot' at doing well, and just needs to stay focused.
