It's a dream to coach a team like this one at FC Goa: Manolo Marquez
The win was the first for Manolo Marquez against the Khalid Jamil side this season, having lost both games in the Indian Super League
Panaji:
FC Goa
coach
Manolo Marquez
has been left in no doubt that his side deserved to win the
Super Cup
and book a continental spot.
Goa defeated
Jamshedpur FC
3-0 with a brace from
Borja Herrera
and another one from
Dejan Drazic
. The win was the first for Manolo against the Khalid Jamil side this season, having lost both games in the
Indian Super League
(ISL).
'Great tournament, fantastic group and they completely deserve to be the champions,' Manolo told reporters during the post-match media interaction on Saturday. 'We arrived here knowing we had to win four games, and we did it. I feel we started the game very well. We knew about the marking and after the first goal, they changed, played normally. Until half time, it was very difficult. But I feel that the second goal killed the game. And then the storm almost killed us. I don't know if the 3-0 score is fair, but we deserve to win, no doubt about it.'
Goa won the
Bandodkar Memorial Trophy
at the start of the season with Manolo away on national duty for the semifinals and final. The Super Cup is his first national trophy in two years at the club.

The experienced Spanish coach has previously spoken in glowing terms about the dressing room atmosphere at the club. After the Super Cup triumph, his views were no different.
'In these two seasons, the team was very competitive with two different teams, different styles. This year the group is very, very strong. They are friends, more than teammates. I feel that we were second in the ISL Shield because we found a very strong Mohun Bagan. We lost the semifinal due to small details. Here, we wanted to win, wanted the Asian competition slot and we played four very good games.
'We are very happy because we got this trophy, but I am happier for the group. Not just the players, for all the club staff, a lot of people. I feel, maybe not the best in titles, but Goa is the best club in India in terms of organisation. When you are a coach, it's a dream to train a team like this because the atmosphere is top,' said Manolo.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this heartbreaking event. Mbappe 'Not Bitter', Says 'Didn't Leave Too Soon; My Story With PSG Was Over'
Last Updated: Kylian Mbappe said there is no bitterness towards PSG's Champions League win after his move to Real Madrid. France captain Kylian Mbappe stated on Saturday that he harbours no resentment towards Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League victory following his departure to Real Madrid. 'I didn't leave too soon; my story with PSG was over. I am not bitter; I had reached the end of the road," Mbappe said during a press conference before Sunday's Nations League third-place play-off against Germany in Stuttgart. PSG triumphed 5-0 over Inter Milan to win the Champions League in Munich the previous Saturday, marking the club's first victory in the competition. 'I tried everything, and it was destiny that it happened without me," Mbappe remarked. 'PSG winning the Champions League without me doesn't affect me. I was happy, and I think they deserved it. 'They've had many years of struggle. I've been there too; I've played in every Champions League stage in Paris except for the victory. 'They're the best team in Europe. 'I don't remember seeing a team win 5-0 in a major final." Mbappe has expressed his ambition to win Europe's premier club competition, but the closest he came with his boyhood club was a loss in the 2020 final to Bayern Munich. The 24-year-old transferred to Madrid in the summer of 2024 hoping to capture the Champions League, but the Spanish giants were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Arsenal in April. Carlos Alcaraz reaches French Open final after Lorenzo Musetti retires with injury
Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz reached back-to-back French Open finals after Italian eighth seed Lorenzo Musetti retired with injury while trailing 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-0, 2-0 on Friday. Alcaraz, who is attempting to become only the third man to retain his Roland Garros title this century after Rafa Nadal and Gustavo Kuerten, will face either world number one Jannik Sinner or 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in Sunday's final. "It's never great to go through like this," Alcaraz said, before hailing Musetti's achievement of reaching at least the semi-finals of all four elite claycourt events this year. "He's a great player, he has had an incredible claycourt season ... I wish him a speedy recovery and I'm sure we'll be enjoying his tennis pretty soon." Musetti twice denied Alcaraz the chance to break in the opening nine games before the 23-year-old suddenly dialled up the intensity and snatched the opening set when his Spanish opponent produced errors in a poor service game. A frustrated Alcaraz kicked his bench during the second set but finally found a way through Musetti's dogged defence to draw level after a tiebreak and then produced a dazzling display of power and precision to dish out a bagel in the third set. Musetti, who appeared to be hampered by a left thigh issue midway through the third set, threw in the towel after two games in the fourth. "The first two sets were tough. I had chances to be up in the match but couldn't make the most of them," Alcaraz added. "When I won the second set, I was relieved and I knew that I needed to be aggressive and be myself. I was calmer. I could see clearer and I could play great tennis at the start of the third. "I'm feeling great physically. It's been three intense weeks but I have one more step to take. I'm playing great tennis and I have great confidence. I've been doing great things in this tournament and now is the time to give 100% in the final." Alcaraz said he would tune into the second semi-final on Court Philippe Chatrier to study his potential opponents. "I'm not going to miss tonight's match, it's one of the best we can have right now, Sinner against Djokovic," he said. 'I'm going to watch it and enjoy it and take tactics from the match.'
