Crewe teen makes emotional stage return after nine surgeries
A teenager who had to learn to walk and talk again after a rare operation is celebrating her return to the stage and performing.Ellie, 16, from Crewe, Cheshire, sang in front of an audience for the first time following surgery last year that involved having part of her skull stored in her stomach. She had nine surgeries over the space of 13 weeks and at one point feared she might never leave hospital.Ellie said she felt "overwhelmed with love" after the performance on Sunday, which was part of a fundraising event at the Coppenhall Club in Crewe.
WARNING: This story contains a photo showing the aftermath of hospital surgery"It was the best feeling in the world," she said, although admitted she had begun feeling nervous."The second I started, all the nerves just went away and I felt like I did before – back to normal."The teenager has been performing since the age of three and previously appeared in Emmerdale and trod the boards in the West End.
Her mum Joanne said she had found it difficult to imagine her daughter getting back on stage so soon after her surgery."I wasn't sure I'd ever get back there," Ellie said."I was hopeful that I would as soon as possible but with something like what happened, you just never know how possible [it might be]."Ellie was taken to hospital in May 2024 after a week of suffering from persistent headaches and nausea and becoming sensitive to light, as well as vomiting up to 16 times a day.
Following blood tests and an MRI scan, it was discovered Ellie had a bleed on her brain caused by a cavernoma - a group of abnormal blood vessels resembling a raspberry..The condition does not always cause symptoms and, according to the NHS, about one in every 600 people in the UK is living with a cavernoma without any symptoms.Ellie underwent surgery at Alder Hey Children's Hospital that involved removing part of her skull to relieve pressure and it was then stored in her stomach to keep it sterile before it could be put back in place. After her surgery, the 16-year-old could only communicate by wiggling her thumb and it took about seven weeks for movement to start returning to her legs.
Speaking about the illness, mum Joanne said: "She was a healthy, 15-year-old child at the time, never been ill in her life, always so busy and energetic with dance and rehearsals every night."It was just a massive shock, a massive blow to be honest."Ellie – who is currently taking her GCSE exams – has now started preparing for her next performance in July, as part of an ensemble in Everybody's Talking About Jamie at Crewe Lyceum."She's not full out dancing like she'd like to be, we're still working on that side of things with physio and rehab," Joanne said.

Revealing her plans for the weekend, she said Harvey will be joining her on Saturday when she performs at Portsmouth Pride. Katie then added: "Hopefully Harvey starts his Mounjaro this week, but we'll talk about that next week and I'll go through all of what's happening about that." The mum-of-five previously opened up on how Harvey's life was at risk because of his size. The TV personality's eldest child has Prader-Willi syndrome, which sparks a constant desire to eat food and a permanent feeling of hunger which leads to obesity. Harvey battles a series of debilitating conditions including autism, septo-optic dysplasia, ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder. In a video posted in April, Katie revealed: 'I'm so heartbroken and gutted that his weight is just going up. 'I just googled it in stones, 188kg is just a few kg of being 30 stone. 'It's so life-threatening now, I'm still waiting for the doctors to get back to me starting on the mounjaro and his journey to a healthy life.' She continued: 'It's so sad his quality of life at the moment where he's so big, he just can't really do much. Katie Price drops huge hint daughter Princess Andre is in talks for Love Island after boyfriend split 'It's just another thing I have to deal with because he's at high risk of having a heart attack, he struggles to put his trainers or struggles to walk anywhere but I love him and I'm going to help him through this. 'So sad, obesity and his condition is sad, it's sad to see someone go through it and he doesn't understand.' 5 Katie thinks the move could be life-saving Credit: PA Everything you need to know about fat jabs Weight loss jabs are all the rage as studies and patient stories reveal they help people shed flab at almost unbelievable rates, as well as appearing to reduce the risk of serious diseases. Wegovy – a modified version of type 2 diabetes drug Ozempic – and Mounjaro are the leading weight loss injections used in the UK. Wegovy, real name semaglutide, has been used on the NHS for years while Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a newer and more powerful addition to the market. Mounjaro accounts for most private prescriptions for weight loss and is set to join Wegovy as an NHS staple this year. How do they work? The jabs work by suppressing your appetite, making you eat less so your body burns fat for energy instead and you lose weight. They do this my mimicking a hormone called GLP-1, which signals to the brain when the stomach is full, so the drugs are officially called GLP-1 receptor agonists. They slow down digestion and increase insulin production, lowering blood sugar, which is why they were first developed to treat type 2 diabetes in which patients' sugar levels are too high. Can I get them? NHS prescriptions of weight loss drugs, mainly Wegovy and an older version called Saxenda (chemical name liraglutide), are controlled through specialist weight loss clinics. Typically a patient will have to have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, classifying them as medically obese, and also have a weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure. GPs generally do not prescribe the drugs for weight loss. Private prescribers offer the jabs, most commonly Mounjaro, to anyone who is obese (BMI of 30+) or overweight (BMI 25-30) with a weight-related health risk. Private pharmacies have been rapped for handing them out too easily and video calls or face-to-face appointments are now mandatory to check a patient is being truthful about their size and health. Are there any risks? Yes – side effects are common but most are relatively mild. Around half of people taking the drug experience gut issues, including sickness, bloating, acid reflux, constipation and diarrhoea. Dr Sarah Jarvis, GP and clinical consultant at said: 'One of the more uncommon side effects is severe acute pancreatitis, which is extremely painful and happens to one in 500 people.' Other uncommon side effects include altered taste, kidney problems, allergic reactions, gallbladder problems and hypoglycemia. Evidence has so far been inconclusive about whether the injections are damaging to patients' mental health. Figures obtained by The Sun show that, up to January 2025, 85 patient deaths in the UK were suspected to be linked to the medicines. In February Katie told The Sun she consulted top doctors who suggested starting Harvey on the jabs in a bid to improve his chances of living longer. Harvey's biological dad is former footballer Dwight, 53, dated for a short period between 2000 and 2001, but split shortly after Katie told him she was pregnant. 5 Katie worries about Harvey's long-term health if he stays obese Credit: Splash

Coronation Street legend ‘confirms' Emmerdale crossover role
Jack P Shepherd who has played the iconic character of mischievous David Platt since 2000 has teased he could be taking part in the Corrie and Emmerdale special. The Celebrity Big Brother winner appears to be the first soap star to "confirm" their involvement in the one-hour segment, announced by ITV last month. When catching up with Digital Spy at the British Soap Awards recently, Jack let slip the exciting news on the red carpet. When the actor was asked if he will be involved in the 'unprecedented' episode, which will see characters from both soaps come together in a celebration of the soap genre, he 'confidently' replied: "Yes!" But Jack's Weatherfield co-star Ben Price (David's brother Nick Tilsley), interrupted: "Are you meant to say that?" Jack responded: "I don't know!" Ben then advised his on-screen sibling not to give any details away, to which Jack continued: "I don't know if I am. Not for a fact, I don't. 'The big key hitters, I think they might have been told. There's rumours – and I'm sniffing that I might be in the periphery." He then joked: "With my Yorkshire accent. I think I'm in it, talking Yorkshire and they're like: 'Where are you from? Are you from Bradford?'" Jack's soap tease might be the news some viewers have been wanting for, as one posted on X: "corrie and emmerdale crossover episode. I need david platt & ross barton , charity & tracy , mandy & carla oh the possibilities." The "mash-up" of two of the nation's most beloved soaps is set to air on ITV next year and will be the first of its kind in British soap history. It will mark the broadcaster's new 'power hour' of soap which begins on ITV1 and STV in January 2026. ITV said the producers, scriptwriters and production teams have 'conceived an ingenious way of linking the two universes, but with characters then returning to the soaps they are renowned for inhabiting in Manchester and Yorkshire'.
